  • Love this card! I put nearly every single purchase possible on it and have racked up the double flybuys in no time. Car insurance, health insurance, fuel… all the expensive things in life. Much better than having 28 Degrees which gives you nothing.

    • +2

…gives you nothing and takes nothing as well (vs $99 per year).

      • Even with a $99 fee it's still worth it. I put all my Flybuys into velocity and has scored a few flights.

    • 28degrees gives 6 months price protection. Coles doesn't offer it to new customers anymore after the Citibank takeover.

I’ve got this also. Have easily redeemed over $500 in just Coles alone and I haven’t even had the card for a whole year yet. Like you I use it to pay for absolutely anything I can with it. Childcare, utility bills, insurance, etc. I also am enjoying a full 12 months of Velocity Gold as I was able to meet the status credit criteria to keep it after the trial. Well worth especially as the annual fee for the first year was refunded via $100 of flybuys points.

      • I'm glad someone sees the value in it. Once you start using it for everything the annual fee pays off very quickly. I even stuck a new car purchase on it!

      • When U met the status credit to keep it after trial did it reactivate it for another 9 months?

    • Yeah but 2 flybuys for every dollar spent is nothing on the ANZ FF card that gives you 1QFF for each dollar OR the Westpac AMEX which gives you 3 altitude points (worth 1.5 velocity) for each $1 spent. None of these cards cost me any fees for the moment.

you only get 870 Velocity points for every 2000 flybuys or something. You have the other Coles products probably gets you better flybuys points bonuses, but on credit cards you could be doing so much better.

      • Where were you when I was looking for recommendations? Any prerequisites like earning X amount? Are they currency conversion free?

Downside is that they're Qantas. I don't fly Jetstar because they're shit and the usual airports I frequent have only a couple Qantas flights a week if they're not cancelled.

  • Think this offer might be targeted.

  • they normally give out $100 off your shop, or equivalent amount in flybuy points (check active deals) as signup bonus
so depend which ones people value more

  • Don't worry about the "cid", it just represents mastercard / electronic direct mail / application (?? not sure) / today's date (presumably an online marketing campaign that started today).

  • Targeted. Also dupe.

I got a similar deal today but with 20,000 flybuy points instead of no annual fee. Works out the same in the end. I'm not sure whether to go for it. Too many better deals out there to erode my credit rating on.

  • I linked my Velocity/Flybuys accounts in the last few days, and today just happened to find an offer listed in my Flybuys account of what looks to be this offer with the same link/page. The difference being Flybuys page does not mention how much the annual fee is, or if it's waived for the 1st year, and it also offers 20k flybuys points.

The link it uses for the application is the same as OP. So perhaps it may work for others.

Having said that, for those interested in the 'Explore Gold', the T&Cs on the Flybuys page (before getting to OPs link) state

Your Velocity Frequent Flyer Membership MUST BE linked to your flybuys account to be automatically enrolled for a complimentary Velocity Explore Gold membership

    The same T&Cs also state

At the completion of your Explore Gold membership, to maintain Gold status you must comply with the reduced requirements of earning 80 Status Credits (normally 400 Status Credits) and fly at least one Eligible Sector.

So the card might be good for those who fly a lot and just want a very good shortcut to Gold

  • Does anyone know if there is still a fee for overseas ATM withdrawals if the credit card has been loaded up with extra credit? (apart from any ATM fees) Like what you used to be able to do with the 28 degrees card.

I can't see this mentioned in the T&C's or PDS

    • If you click on "Rates & fees" on this page:
      https://financialservices.coles.com.au/credit-cards/rewards-…
… it seems to indicate $5 fee plus 2.5%.

I think one of the best cards for no-fee international ATM withdrawal is the Citibank Debit.

      • Yeah, I did see that, but I wasn't sure if the $5 + 2.50% cash advance fees would still be applicable if I was withdrawing my own money if I had topped it up with extra funds.

  • "Collect 2 points per $1 on eligible spend "

I know "eligible spend" doesn't include cash advance, bpay etc. But eligible spend pretty much most day to day expenditure rather than selected merchants? I cant find the details in their terms and conditions.

    Many thanks

This takes a long time to be approved for anyone going through the process…

    • How long did it take for you? I applied on 23rd July and haven't heard anything back yet.

      • +1

I'm still waiting for final stage to go through. Started on 23rd. The last update said it should be approved later this week… Most of my CC applications have only ever taken a few days at most.

        • Update for anybody that might go through process. I got declined (I had to call to find out. Pretty terrible process, would not likely re-apply)

          Credit score of 650+
          Never missed a payment
Holding 2 other cards at time of application with ~20,000 limit but didn't report the 15k one cause it said only ones you planned on keeping after you get this card.
Not Aus PR but hold working visa
          Well above min income required.

        • @freestyle16:

I haven't heard anything either, I'll give them a call.

Was hoping to use this on an upcoming overseas trip for its fee free purchases (and lounge access with velocity gold). Lucky i also applied for a citibank debit card.

        • @T1: I applied last Friday night, uploaded the documents required during the application and was approved Tuesday afternoon. Wasn't expecting such a fast turnaround based on previous reports of how fast Citi are at these things.

The email they sent confirmed that I was not going to be charged an annual fee (exact wordage was "Annual fee: $0, debited to your Account on first use of the Account (including Card activation). After that the standard annual fee, currently $99, will be debited on each anniversary of the date we approved your Account"), so it looks like despite not being targeted I am still getting the deal - at least, the no annual fee part. The Velocity Gold would be nice as I am flying Virgin to the US at the end of the month as well as a couple of legs on Delta while over there so the lounge access would be nice for my four hour layover in Minneapolis.

    • I applied late July; got a phone call to confirm details a couple days later; got an email saying I was approved a day later.

3 weeks later (mid august) I had not received/heard anything in regards to the card/application. Phoned up to be told yes I was approved and should have received the card within 5 days (got nothing). They blocked the 'missing' card and apparently sent out another, to be received in 5 days.

Another 2 weeks later I have still not received/heard anything in regards to any of this. Again phoned up and was told they're going to do the same thing, block card send another. They also could not confirm the promotion that I applied with and told me to email them with details.

So all up, 5+ weeks later I am approved, have no card, have to tell them about their promo that is no longer on the internet, and only proof of any of this is an email with an application number
