Just got approved for the 40k bonus (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269536) :(

    • +1

      ouch!

    • +1

      Same here :(

    • I mentioned this on that bargain thread too - looks like on the plus side it is easier to get the Velocity account linked and the rep told me as long as your Velocity account is linked you will get the bonus points. Here's hoping its the 60000. fingers crossed

      • Any idea how to link a velocity account to this ANZ credit card? (Signed up to the 40k offer).

        • +1

I rang 1300367763 and asked to link my velocity account for the bonus points offer. Hope that helps.

    • Have applied under that offer, have not got final approval yet with cards. Wondering if it is worth calling and cancelling and reapplying. Thoughts about this strategy??

      • I wouldn't. Anz likely to say you have had an Anz card in the last 12 months and reject it.

  • Would like to know expiry. Would cancel my existing ANZ card and apply again as transfers don't get the points.

    • It's 21 Dec 2016 I believe.

      • Can I ask where you saw that date? I'm trying to work out when is best to apply…

        • I also can't find it

        • +2

          @ozbargainer2:

I'm going to hazard a guess and say the promotion is for the month of November 2016, since the URL for it contains "Nov 16". The URL for the previous, 40,000 points offer, contained '09 16" so that would seem to make sense out of many people's reports that ANZ staff had told them that offer was just for the month of September.

Note that I don't have any other knowledge that I am basing this guess on, it's entirely from the URL. As a result, I'll be making sure I apply for this card before the end of November at the latest.

  • +1

cant find the link on their home page?

    • Probably targeted campaign but as long as you have the URL you can apply through the link.

  • Website is stuck on the main info page for me tried my phone and table and both are the same

  • +13

They're really pushing this card and it's a pretty damn good card as well. I've started seeing ads for it everywhere.

Key info (mostly about the flight):

    • Must be booked 60 days prior to departure (quite a significant limitation)
    • Must be booked in your own name (unlike Platinum Edge/Velocity Platinum)
    • Free flight includes East Coast cities to Perth return (unlike Platinum Edge/Velocity, which includes PER-East Coast return but not vice versa) - these fares often go for $500+
    • Flight is on Virgin Australia and includes food/baggage
    • The 2 free VA lounge passes that this card comes with the free domestic flight
    • The flight is actually free. No taxes/surcharges need to be paid as long as there is availability
    • I think there is a $107 change fee just like with the Platinum Edge/Velocity Platinum (but not sure how this works in relation to the 60 day minimum booking period rule)
    • Approximate availability can be found by looking for the same flight on VA's website and if they are selling the fare as a Saver fare, it is likely to be available for redemption
    • This card is the only AMEX card in the Australian market that both waives overseas transaction fees/forex fees. As an added bonus, you'll earn rewards points on these expenses (there are a few non-AMEX alternatives)
    • This card comes with a Visa card too. Use AMEX where it's accepted & not ridiculously surcharged to maximise points earn.

This card is worth the annual fee if you know you will use the free flight on a fare that usually costs more than $225 (the annual fee). If you can't/won't use the free flight, the value of this card is debatable.

    • Excellent card just for the points alone.

    • Hmm this card really does look great.

I'm hesitant with ANZ though as they have twice badly (profanity) up credit applications and their horrendous support took some time to get things sorted out.

Have things improved in the last 12 months?

      • In my experience, no.

I had a very unpleasant experience in chasing up my application - it was nearly a month before I heard the outcome and got the credit cards, and this was with me spending hours on the phone and writing in on Facebook.

Also had a bad experience with cancellation of the cards - overall, the people I dealt with were incompetent or rude. This looks like a great card but I'm going to pass - I can't bear the thought of dealing with ANZ again. They pretty much went against everything in the code of banking practice.

        • Sounds similar to my experiences.
I'll give this a skip then.

  • This is a long shot, but has anyone who is a PhD student on an APA scholarship + tutoring salary been able to apply for one of these? I understand that I’m a liability and maybe shouldn’t get myself into this kind of deal but I’m good with money, have no debt and probably a fairly decent credit score, and would like to earn points for the money I spend.

    • +1

Anyone is 'good with money' just whether the bank decides you are or not. Best thing if you want to try your luck because the minimum income is quite low.

      • Lol, that’s fair enough. Do you think it might be worth going to a bank and talking to someone directly?

        • +2

Yes, maybe just me but in my experience, I never failed applying credit card directly going to the bank. Had online application rejected a couple of times (and a few more when they couldn't decide until someone reviewed the case).

        • -1

The final approval for any application would likely be done by a particular department and not likely to be done by branch staff - I'd think it wouldn't make a difference vs. just applying online.

    • +1

I recently got approved for this card. (on the 40k bonus :( )

PhD student with an APA + small bonus scholarship.

      got approved for a 10k limit :)

    • +1

Me. I got accepted with AMEX but I had to answer like 3 phone calls trying to convince them.

  • I signed up for a NAB CC several months ago and received the bonus Velocity points, will I still be eligible for these bonus points also? I'm thinking yes.

    • +7

      Yes, since this isn't NAB.

      • +1

Arousing, thanks I'll give it a go :)

        • +8

Is this what turns you on? Actually, don't answer that

  • I got one 2 weeks ago and already spent $1400 eligible purchases & got my 2 free Lounge passes.

I do not know how I can get extra velocity points now…

    • What is the expiry on the lounge passes you received?

      • +1

12 months. from the day you called to ask for them.

        • Thanks, I meant to also ask you if they were posted physical passes?

        • +1

          @sams:

yes, it is two printed Velocity virgin domestic lounge pass.

  • +2

Hmm the T&Cs make no mention of whether or not I am eligible for the bonus points If i already have a ANZ rewards black card.

It only refers to transferring as opposed to applying for another card.

Any one have any ideas? Or has anyone been successful

    • +1

I was thinking the same, apply for a new one, then cancel my old… Hmmm

    • Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card within the previous 12 months.

If holders of ANZ rewards black cards aren't excluded, then they should be eligible.

  • thanks OP, have been waiting for a good velocity bonus points offer to transfer my NAB card from

  • I just got declined trying to apply for this one :(

    • Did you recently try to get a credit card?

Perhaps check your score: www.getcreditscore.com.au . Its a free service and you can do 2 check a month.

      • Yeah, 2 days ago I applied for the Virgin Money card with the 40k point bonus.
Thanks for the link, I'll try that. I already get Veda alerts.

        • Wow - $80 per year to get alerts:
          http://www.mycreditfile.com.au/products-services/my-credit-a…

          Is there a cheaper way?

        • @Gaz1: You can get 1 free credit check with them / year, and iirc, it takes 2 weeks to come through.

I bought this ($80 for alerts) when I was applying for rentals, so I could see when they run a credit check against me.
I guess it looks bad seeing a lot of credit card applications in a short time.
I'm trying to build up velocity points haha

  • +5

I replaced 28 degrees with this. No fee on overseas purchase and ATM withdrawal.

  • Where did you come across the link for this one, OP?
Be interesting to see how ANZ handle this after the absolute shambles that was the 40K bonus points offer.

  • This is great, thanks OP! Is AMEX shop small offered to bank issued cards?

    • Yes I have this card and have shop small

  • To help put the bonus into perspective, can anyone tell me what 60,000 velocity points can buy you?

Also, does anyone know the details of selected domestic destinations?
I could see anything under the terms fineprint.

"Complimentary flights are restricted to selected economy fare class on flights operated by Virgin Australia to selected domestic destinations."

    • I wouldn't buy anything from velocity store. Sell it for $600 or redeem/upgrade flights.

      • How do you sell the point?

        • Gumtree

        • -5

          @divious:
          I didn't ask where, I asked how.

  • Is it possible to get both Visa and AMEX? Or should I choose one over the other?

    • +2

      They give you both.

    • Yep you get both, so you basically use the Amex at whatever merchant will accept it for no fee. You use the Visa for all other purchases.

  • 60K bonus points! That's bloody good timing for me, as my application last month didn't go through because they needed a 'tax return' which I'm in the process of getting now. Would have 'only' got 40K if they approved me then.

Also, good riddance 28 degrees card - their antiquated and confusing website, not to mention unexplainable fees and such, was a good enough reason for me to use these cards for overseas travel as well.

  • I was actually debating in whether to get this or the amex explorer. I ended up going with the Explorer. This is predominantly because I don't fly interstate much, so the free flight ticket will be 'wasted'. Plus the earn rate is 2 anz rewards per dollar with the amex, and 1 anz rewards per dollar with the visa. The tf rate to velocity is 2 anz rewards = 1 velocity pts per dollar with the amex or .5 with visa.

I find the Explorer is better, 2 points (gateway) per dollar. Which is 1.5 velocity points per dollar.

Sure it has higher annual fee, but I can use that for other things, ie, not stuck with a flight and is more flexible.

But this is a great card if you are using the free flight!

    • +2

Why not get both? Use ANZ one for oversea trips or purchase and Explorer with local and grocery shopping. Cancel one of them after you getting all the bonus points.

      • Like I said, I have no need for the free flight benefit, which takes out one huge advantage of the card (no taxes with those flights too!).

Plus I have a free for life hsbc platinum as back up. This earns me 0.5 velocity points per dollar (similar to the anz vosa card). I also have a citibank visa debit card for my international purchases/travel.

The bonus point is tempting though…that's a lot of points.

  • How does this compare with the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black? I applied for that a couple of days ago and waiting to hear back.

The frequent flyer black offers 75k qantas frequent flyers for spending $2500 within 3 months, zero annual fee first year, complimentary concierge and insurance (travel and others) and 2 qantas lounge access a year.

    • You only need to spend 300 on Travel Adventures card and it's 60k velocity points. I guess it comes down to your own preference? Maybe just get both cards!

      • True that, but the Travel Adventures card has an annual fee even in the first year, right?

        • Yeah you have to pay annual fee. Redeem the flight and get the bonus point then cancel the card?

  • Pretty livid - signed up for this card when the only promotion was a $200 Flight Centre voucher.

Then we had the 40k Velcoity point offer, now 60k points!!! What'll it be next month, 80k?

Clearly they want to push adoption of this card; I wouldn't think they'd have much trouble as it's great for people that do any international travelling or online shopping.

    • Yeah, the amex explorer is also being pushed quite a lot I realise. I like the design of this card too. I'm not sure what happened to the cba ones….but I digress

  • Does anyone have a real photo of these cards? Do they look like a clone card? I like the design of the ANZ Black card. I'll apply this card when I cancelled my Black card next year. They may have a promotion of 80k pts or higher lol.

    • I have the card. It looks like the pictures - the numbers are printed on the back, no emboss. It's pretty unique, but I like it. Very shiny

  • Can i sign up for one redeem the flights and 60k points then cancel the card within the first year?
How long do you need to wait before you get the 60k points and flights?

    • It can take up to 3 months for points to hit your account. Although some have it credited within 2 statement cycles. You prob have to hold off cancelling the card until the points get transferred.

  • I just got approved yesterday for this card. Hopefully that still counts as within the timeframe!

    • +1

think it depends on which offer you apply under

  • +1

All you people complaining about signing up with only the 40k offer.. I signed up when there was no offer :(

    • That's a shame. I've started telling bank retention teams when I cancel my card that 'My fee for having you as my bank are bonus points. If you can't provide those on signup and each anniversary, I can't have your card in my wallet any more'. It makes for a quick call :)

The point is, don't sell yourself too cheaply!

      • Any chance you could share how many points you've gotten from this?

        • That would be none, as no bank values loyalty over a new customer. Until they do, I'll continue churning cards and being a 'new' customer.

That said, they occasionally offer me points to stay, but they're in the realm of 5-15k points vs a signup of 50-80k points. I mainly use my above spiel to finish a retention call quickly :)

        • @carwashhair: Thanks! I've also tried this but I've never had any luck getting anything… clearly they are focused on sales targets than retention

  • Does anyone know if you already hold an ANZ Platinum card (Visa), whether you would be eligible for this offer as well? Seems AMEX will have some great shopping offers from time to time and wouldn't mind taking advantage of the 60k points and the offers that AMEX keep bringing out.

    • I imagine the Offer is for new accounts only?

  • -3

The banks seem to be desperate in pushing credit cards … and looking forward to over-zealous consumers paying them interest. Whilst I think pre-paid credit cards (and this deal; if used wisely) are very handy there should be a limit to how many credit cards a person has. Credit card debt in Australia is worryingly at an all-time high.

I have tried linking my Velocity Points card with my MasterCard with no success for some reason. I can log into with account without any problems though. I emailed the card people but received an unhelpful response.

I get points benefits from my prepaid credit card without going into debt. I transfer shopping money into it every fortnight and shop away. It is easier to budget this way and get those points too.

  • +1

Where did you find the expiry date? I can't see it on the page

  • +3

Just a question for those who already have the card…

The website says that ANZ will waive the cash advance fee if you use your ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account to withdraw actual cash from a branch or ATM located overseas.

However, if your account is not in positive balance when you withdraw from an overseas ATM/branch (i.e. you have already used it to make purchases, and not pre-loaded your card with cash), does that mean that you give up the interest free period on your purchases and start getting charged interest on them until you pay off in full?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find the answer on the ANZ website or by doing a quick Google search.

    Thanks!

    • I don't know the answer exactly but I would assume that your assumption is correct. This should be common across all credit cards i.e. assuming your account is not in credit, you will immediately be charged a cash advance fee for withdrawing money from an ATM (plus potentially an ATM withdrawal fee)

  • +1

Question: If I have a ANZ black credit card which took advantage of a qantas bonus points offer a few months back.. would I still be eligible for these velocity bonus points should I apply for this card? Thanks

    • +2

yeP! you just can't have held this same card type (rewards travel adventures) in the last 12 months

  • Thanks OP. I'll cancel my ANZ Rewards Black and get one of these!

  • Anyone know the exchange rate used by ANZ and 28degree mastercard as well as Amex Explorer card? Are they on par to each other or else?

    • Exchange rates are determined by VISA, Mastercard and AMEX respectively. The banks then add on their own fees.

  • is anyone getting 60 second approval or within 24hrs or are they now starting to ask for proof of income.? how much is 60k of velocitys points worth in gift cards?

    • I also want to know how much 60k points is equivalent to in monetary value?

    • around $333.33 gift card

    • They go for about 1c per point on the OzB classified forums. So 60k points is worth $600 cash.

      • +1

Sorry, don't quite understand. How to use as $600 cash? Thanks

Edit: Now I got what you meant. People are buying & selling there. It looks more valuable but a little risky (due to audit). I guess more valuable for those who use the points for flight other than converting to gift card directly in that case.

        • what do you mean by audit?

        • @aussie1: basically reading through the comments, officially the vendor doesn't allow we resell it.

    • Got 60 sec approval. No income proof req'd so far.

  • I applied when the bonus was 40k but did not activate. Called them up and they said there was nothing I could do.
