    • You mean you did not activate the 40k bonus, or didnt activate your anz cards?

  • How does this get linked to your Velocity account? On the application form there is nowhere to put in your Velocity number? i've been advised that this may be targeted by Virgin and that the points get linked to your name if applicable. So I'm worried that it may mean if you have not been targeted (e.g. emailed), then you won't get the bonus points. Has anyone received the points to tell me I'm wrong? :)

    • yes i want to know How does this get linked to your Velocity account before a apply?

      • im keen to find out too…

        • you need to call the Rewards Centre to link your velocity account.

  • I applied it in branch. Is it also eligible with this offer? Will need call in before activating it

    • For additional cardholders an Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 apply per additional cardholder on the account..
Not sure if ANZ additional card has same card number of main card, like Westpac. If it is the same, not good to AMEX shop :)

  • I applied on Sunday. Got approved today.

    • Nice one! Did you link the velocty account?

      • Not yet. Will wait for card to arrive and will link after I have activated the card.

  • noob question here but using both the amex and the visa does not result in an extra card fee?

  • -2

Please be warned to double check you are entitle the bonus before activating the new card.
I was told by ANZ this offer is targeted. Only those who received the promotion email are entitled.
I am now arguing them. I won't activate it until it is done.
    Will update here.

    • But you applied in a branch, right, not online?

      • Yes, I did. I just want to make a note to everyone here.
Did you verify you have automatically got the 60K approval by the way as you may have applied it online? The TC doesn't mention it is for online only either.

        • I haven't applied yet, I'm hoping to wait a couple more weeks before I try (I applied for the Nab card just a couple of months ago)

    • Unless you applied online with the correct link/promo code I don't think you will get the bonus points. It won't be loaded in your rewards account.

      • hm… looks like the case. Will still try to push a bit.
Given current T&C, if I cancel the new one (I haven't activated it), I am still not eligible for this offer as I have existing one within certain months (even if I didn't activate it)….

  • I got my cards today and spoke to ANZ, this is a targeted promotion offered from Velocity directly. The bonus points are to be 'paid' via Virgin and not ANZ. I was told to speak to someone at Virgin to see whether or not I was eligible to begin with but they told me that they're not able to see who was eligible.

      • I ended up speaking to the retention team and after being on hold for awhile, she told me that I am eligible and just need to activate and meet the spending criteria.

Will also do that to link up my Velocity account, thank you!

    • did you apply online following the link in the page? I applied in branch but Ops said I shall have applied online instead. I am still waiting for their response before activating it

      • +1

I applied online via the link provided.

  • +1

I pushed the complaint a couple of times, first they said it was controlled by Virgin then after 3rd call they said it would be honoured..Don't even know if I'll use the points just annoyed me the way ANZ were dealing with this..

  • how long between applications should one wait if rejected because off too many recent other bank applications on the credit file?

  • I called ANZ Rewards to link to my Velocity account but the customer service rep told me it was unnecessary to provide my Velocity details at this time. Can someone verify that this is true?

    • The phone call I had suggested we get ANZ Reward points we transfer

      • Aren't they two distinct types of points?

        • This is what I said.. No mention of this in the T&C's either

  • Like some others I have had some issues with this too. I signed up and activated and had to call three times to try clarify as I was concerned they did not take my velocity number. The first two calls were with the rewards teams and I was told I need to call Virgin directly. On my third attempt I called ANZ directly on 132 273

    The told me the following:

    1. Sign up through the offer
    2. A token gets added to your account (to show you are eligible for the bonus offer)
    3. When you meet the minimum spend criteria ANZ will in 2 months give you the rewards points which you can then transfer by calling them again

Can anyone confirm / challenge this?

Sounds like a bit a of mess!

    • That was what I have been told, though I foresee problems ahead

    • are you required to call up to get this 'token'?

      • No.. they said over the phone its added to my profile when I went through the promotion link

  • So, is it normal that I'm only getting txt messages for the progress update of my application? Don't have a single email from them, just curious if its like that or I typo'd something somewhere.

    • Same thing happened to me, got an SMS when my application was approved, and then another one today saying that my travel adventures cards have been approved. Never received any emails from ANZ about the application.

    • I didn't get any notification. I just received the cards in the mail one day!

  • My process was slightly different. After submitting an application online for this card, I received a text message the following day asking me give them a call on a 1800 number. When I called them, the rep I spoke to asked if I just wanted to transfer some of my balance from an existing ANZ card to this new card. As I already have a ANZ credit card with a pretty high limit that I don't use, I said this was fine to do and it also gets around having them do another credit check. I have been taking up too many balance transfer offers over last couple of years so this was a good thing to skip the check.

I asked if I will still be eligible for the 60k points offer and was told that I will get all the bonus offers that was advertised on the site that I applied from.

    • So if you request a Balance Transfer during application process, Banks don't do Credit Check? Is it only for same bank or for different banks? Doesn't sound right, but there is always something new to learn.

      • Think Icer meant transferring some of the credit limit of an existing ANZ card to this new card (ie no overall increase in credit limit across all of their ANZ credit cards), rather than balance transfer (which is the transfer of amount owed on one card to another).

        • Let's say you have $15K on Card A, you apply for another Card B with $10k, The limit is now $25K, you may transfer $3 outstanding on Card A to Card B, all it means is you will be repaying Card B rather than Card A.
Or Does it mean that Card A limit is now reduced to $5K and Card B has $10K plus $3k owing on Card A is transferred to Card B?
Where have I misunderstood the post by Icer?

        • +1

          @Hunter80:
It's not about transferring the amount outstanding but just the credit limit.

Say card A has a credit limit of $25k & an outstanding balance of $1k. Now $5k of card A's credit limit is transferred to a new card (card B). The credit limit of card A is now $20k but the outstanding balance is still $1k. Card B would have a credit limit of $5k & no amount outstanding.

This is what I think Icer was saying.

        • @Love a bargain:

Love a bargain's explanation is correct. My comment may have been confusing. Basically I already have the ANZ platinum card with 30k limit which I don't use much. When I applied for the travel rewards card they asked if I wanted to transfer some of the balance from my platinum card and it will save a credit and salary check. I had then remove 10k from my platinum card so that becomes 20k limit now and I have 10k limit on my travel rewards.

    • Don't they do a credit check during the "60 second approval" (ie as soon as an application is submitted)?

      • They do a credit check. Exactly which minute it is done, I don't know. My Veda took a hit the day after I got the 60 second approval.

        • Exactly as I thought. That's why I wonder how Icer could avoid a credit check by transferring some of his existing credit limit from another card.

        • @Love a bargain: for something tricky that could affect whether they get the points or not, I'd phone up and talk to a solutions specialist.

        • @anna10:

Huh. I wasn't concerned about whether he is eligible for the points or not (since he's already confirmed that with ANZ). But just found it "interesting" that one could avoid a credit check this way.

        • @Love a bargain: They specifically say that, "transfer" is not allowed. So, I was eluding to not saying something like, 'can I transfer' anything, including credit limit. Even if they are only talking about credit limit. Anyway, the answer is probably no, they can't avoid a credit check. It is usually done on any new cc app in my experience. I've done 6 this year and all Veda checked.

        • @Love a bargain:

I could be wrong. Perhaps there is a credit check that just hasn't showed up on my credit check history yet. After I submitted my application, I wasn't approved within the '60 second' timeframe so perhaps there was something in my application that flagged up not to go through a check…could it be because I am an existing ANZ credit card customer? The ANZ rep I spoke to just used the general phrase of not going through a credit and salary check but this could just refer to another check that is after a Veda check.

        • @Love a bargain:

Not sure if you've understood it from the other comments around, but my understanding is this.

Icer has applied for this ANZ Adventures card and gotten approved. There would have been a credit check done for this and I don't think there is any way this can be avoided.

However, because he already holds another Credit Card by the same financial institution, he was offered to transfer some of the credit limit (as opposed to balance - which would be a balance transfer) between the cards. This shouldn't incur a credit check as his overall level of credit is not increasing.

Furthermore, this option was only available to him because he already had another product from the same financial institution/bank. i.e. if he had another Credit Card but it was with NAB, this wouldn't have been an option for him.

This was a "Credit Limit Transfer" as opposed to a "Balance Transfer" - which I don't hear about often. But seeing as it was merely a transfer and thus not an increase, it doesn't trigger a credit check.

I would presume another requirement would also have been to ensure the credit limit of the card that he was transferring from would have to remain above whatever the minimum credit limit for that product was.

          TLDR:

          • Icer did a "Credit Limit Transfer" not a "Balance Transfer"
          • Only doable because he happened to have a CC with the same bank
          • Doesn't trigger credit check because his overall level of debt is not increasing
          • Main requirement would be that the bank has the facility/ability to do such a transfer, and that the card you are transferring from maintains a credit limit higher than what the specified minimum is

Disclaimer: I am just speculating, but the basis of my speculation is based on how I think it would logically work.

        • @illumination:

Is your comment meant for @anna10?

Yes I think I understand the difference between a "credit limit transfer" vs a "balance transfer", as I've explained here.

What I found interesting is that while Icer might be able to skip the salary verification etc by transferring some credit limit from his pre-existing credit card, I'm not sure how he could have avoided the credit check (i.e. the VEDA type credit check, which is what most people here are concerned about) as I believe that would have been automatically triggered as soon as he clicked the submit button in order to perform the 60 second instant approval (alhtough it seems like most people don't get automatically approved, unless their salary is deposited into an ANZ account etc).

        • @Love a bargain: hm sorry this comment trail has led me a little confused. I've gotten confused between you, Icer and anna10. I'm not sure who understands what. From the comment you linked to in that comment, it seems like you have the same understanding as me though.

I don't think he avoided a credit check. I agree with your interpretation. It was only after approval that ANZ offered a credit limit transfer, which I believe won't trigger a credit check.

  • anyone know when this deal ends??

  • Has anyone checked if this offer can be used with the Frequent Flyer Black promotion? ANZ website says it cannot be used with any other other offer, package or promotion, but didn't know how strict they were.

  • Has anyone definitively determined that owning a different Rewards card does not exclude you from the bonus offer?

Clause 2 of T&C would seem to suggest that you are only excluded if you "transfer" to the Travel card not apply from new. But I'd like a little more clarity.

    Will try calling.

  • I messaged them on Facebook, and was told its finished.

It's still up on the website, I wonder if they'd still give the bonus points if I applied? I'd hate to apply and then be rejected for the points. I wouldn't want the card otherwise, so its a risky move.

    • I was going to apply for this tonight, now I'm not sure. Link still looks good though so not sure how I'll go.

      • +1

Give it a go, I followed another user on here where I signed up, received the cards, then confirmed. I called up ANZ to confirm about being eligible (which I was) before activating anything. I did that all Sunday and Monday so can't be too far off?

        • I just applied, funny enough I had to send proof of income which I never had to with Amex Platinum or NAB Platinum.

        • @lyork:

How do we confirm or ask for the Velocity points? Unlike NAB, where you put your Velocity details in…I did not see such thing on this application.

        • +1

@lyork: Call the number on the back of your visa/amex to confirm, 13 22 73

call ANZ rewards centre to provide velocity card no. 1300 367 763

        • @lyork:

Me too, I am using their Black cards which require higher income to apply than this card. Just git the card and activated and spent $500. Waiting for the points.

  • Does anyone know the effective 'cash back' rates on the Visa and Amex? Assuming you just redeem for gift cards.

Wanting to compare rewards vs Coles Mastercard.

    • +1

Amex gives approx 0.9% 'cash back' as Woolworths eGift Cards.
Visa gives half that, so approx 0.45%.

Not many cards out there are as generous as the Coles Rewards MC.

  • So I've read all the comments about how to get this activated", which seem pretty confusing to be honest.

I spoke to ANZ Card who were pretty clueless on the offer. They put me through to ANZ Rewards. They had details of the offer and basically just quoted the T&C back to me and just said to wait 2 months for the credit. I already had my Velocity number registered with them via a different ANZ card.

I signed up via the link, I got a screenshot showing my application details AND showing the offer, I haven't had one of these cards before and I've made the required spend.

No-one seems to have any ability to confirm your eligibility or to check the mysterious "token" mentioned in this thread. They said sit tight and call back if I don't get the credit within 2 months of my qualifying spend. As an IT worker I know that there must be some way for someone to check this otherwise how does it ever get triggered on your account?

Guess I'll just set a reminder in my calendar.

Anyone had any different experience recently?

  • So I rang up and apparently this has nothing to do with ANZ, it is Velocity who pay out the promotion.

He said they are not honoring points and it is velocity's choice.

    Going to call Velocity now.

Velocity have no idea either…. great…
Can't believe $10 extra for additional card holder and another $55 as well… not sure whether additional card holder entitled to an extra 2 x velocity passes and return flight too (would be a good bargain for the annual fee then anyway)?

    • +2

"nothing to do with ANZ" yet plastered all over their website
God this bank is a joke. Can't wait to book my return flight (and get the $100 voucher from their debit card promo, which they probably won't honour) so I can cancel all my accounts with them.

    • Well got through (via facebook) and they have CONFIRMED they will honor the 60k point rewards (2 months within meeting $500 eligibility criteria).

I have an email confirmation to that extent from their customer service team.

It is an ANZ promotion after all.

  • Has anyone successfully got their 60k velocity points yet?

    • don't think so - and would be saying over a month before we find out as nobody even seems to have their points from the previous 40k points promotion yet.

      • I did get the 40k promo

  • if you had the choice between paying $225 and getting the 60k points or just paying the $55 rewards fee but no points what would be better?

  • Got approved yesterday for the card. Sweet! Card is already good with the free flight but the 60k point bonus would just make it sweeter

    • Not so much on the free flight as it's probably part of the annual fee. 60k points would definitely make it a better deal.

      • +2

That's fine by me. Return flight from Brisbane to Perth and back can easily be over $500. Maybe not 'free' I guess but i'd be saving a considerable amount still.

  • ANZ rewards travel did my link up, so don't bother with others

    • What do you mean?

      • +2

Well some people got told to talk to velocity.

When u call and I got put to someone random, they then put me to card solutions who then put me to anz rewards travel.

So to save people getting the run around - go straight to anz rewards travel.

        • Ah right that's a lot clearer

  • Where does this deal come from? ANZ is trying to get out of it and not honouring the 60K points.

    • What did anz say?

  • When I called they said this deal is not offered by ANZ and asked me where I got it from. Apparently they are not aware of it.

    • Not aware of it after all the calls they would have had from ozbargainers alone lol. Honestly the worst bank in Australia by far.

  • Hi Guys, just to confirm, i got the 60k points today. All good , they added them Automatically, i think based on the name of the applicant :)

    • That's great to hear! How long ago did you meet the minimum spend?

      • One week :)

    • Did you have to call up to provide the Velocity membership number?

      • No I didn't

    • Congratulations!
      I got lesson.

  • +1

Hi guys, I also received 60k points in my Velocity account today:
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/60614/44394/points.png

I've never provided my Velocity number to ANZ, probably they matched my name and DOB, then transferred the points.

I applied on 15/11, spent $500 the day after and received the points on 25/11, so quick.

  • Just checked and I got my 60k points too.

Applied early November, met spend requirements within a week and received 25/11.

  • Did you guys call up ANZ to provide Velocity membership number before you get the 60k bonus points?

    • The answer is just 2 comments above.

    • I called up to provide my velocity account no.

Not sure if it was required but I did it just to be sure. That being said, I also received my 60k points on the 25th

  • Awesome to hear you guys received the 60K points!
Meanwhile all us 40Kers are still waiting :(

    • Hey Mattlol, I just checked my account and got the 40K points. I'll post on the other thread too - happy days!

  • so is this offer still open?!

    • I was under impression when talk to ANZ that this deal will expire around 20th Dec.
