Man, I really want to go but the fact that Insurance companies won't cover issues arising from volcanoes (delays etc) is holding me back from booking. Knowing my luck my flight would be cancelled and i'd lose all my accommodation or something… :( I don't mind delays while i'm there but if I was prevented from getting there it'd ruin the holiday.

    • Having been stuck there for 3+ weeks due to a volcano, I wouldn't go back without insurance that covers volcanoes. Fortunately I was covered that time (that volcano wasn't expected to erupt) so insurance covered my accom/food/etc. and I was barely out of pocket. Bit of a risk otherwise, especially if you have to get back to Australia by a certain date for any reason.

      • 3 weeks? wow, that's longer than I expected.

I'm not much of a risk taker, and being so far away.. anything could happen between now and November when I wish to go. Might have to go to Thailand again i think :(

      • May I ask which insurance you used for volcano cover?

        • Southern Cross Travel Insurance but this was years ago. Volcanic eruptions aren't considered unexpected events if said volcano had recent seismic activity — Agung has been rumbling for nearly a year now, so insurers won't cover your expenses if an ash cloud strands you there. I'm pretty sure they all have the same policy on that now.

    • I thought same thing and for AU insurers that seems true…but was speaking to a friend who lives in Singapore, and she was saying they CAN get travel insurance with volcano cover now for Bali… so it may be worth seeing if it's possible to get that ?

      • It is available as a surcharge, but as it's been something that has consistently been a possible issue since 2017 (mount Agung has been active/smoking all year) no insurance company will currently accept any claims arising from it because insurance is for unforeseen circumstances. There was a period of 3 days I believe in June where you could buy valid cover for Bali volcano claims -if- you purchased the add on cover, but after those three days.. nope.

There is ONE type of coverage you can get through cover-more which is a CFAR policy, however you have to make a call before you go as to whether you think the volcano will be an issue. You must cancel your entire holiday 7 days or more before leaving and they will cover 75% of the cost. If you choose to go and there are cancellations due to the volcano you will not be covered. Big risk.

  • How about mentioning the airline (jetstar) etc in the title

Last time I traveled with JetFail we all passengers wasted all evening until the next earlier morning in Melbourne airport while the staff telling garbage over garbage and families one by one leaving because of kids and other stuff.
Then customers started rising their voices, no Supervisor ever came instead JetFail threatened us with the "security is coming" because they warned us we had to leave the area but most of us didn't.
Eventually the union won and JetFail had to take the decision (sick) to find accommodation for us then later in the morning we could take another flight.
You can imagine people with hotel and agencies bookings and the stress caused by JetFail just to save $100-200 while on board you must pay even for a glass of water!

You don't have to pay for a glass of water from the toilet wash basin. Bottled water is about $3.50 which I always factor into the flight cost. Jetstar is still the cheapest direct option to Bali by over $400.

Dogs drink water from the airplane's toiled wash basin.

      • A lot of flights have stickers in lavatories that advise not to drink the water from the taps there.

Here is a thread where people discuss it: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travelbuzz/1837910-airplane-…

To sum up, It is best avoided.

        • -3

Mentally sane people know that drinking that water isn't safe, a part that JetFail fanboi above.

You can ask for water / ice from the attendant and it’s free

        • Yes from JetFail even a free foot massage.

  • Go for it. U could do a lot worse. Like break a leg and be bedridden 6months +

  • so we have a 7-kilo hand baggage right unless we want to buy extra?

    • You are absolutely right.

      • Thank you.

  • Everyone complained about Tiger, now it's cheaper to fly to Thailand than Bali.

    I don't actually mind that.

I manage to find some $470-480 flights from Adelaide return excluding baggage in November but as far as I've read that's a bad time and when the volcano may erupt.

  • Is that really a good price? We are flying PER-DPS in November (meals, drinks 30kg included) on Garuda (A330) for $405 return. Good flight times too (early morning out, late evening back)

    • Good enough to buy. Direct flights, below $400.
How long ago did you buy them and is per-dps cheaper than mel-dps?

      • I few weeks ago

I guess DPS is closer to Perth than Melbourne but I often find that this often doesn't make a difference to the price of flights

  • Just heard the ad on TV when I clicked on this….. Spooky shit
