Good price for this popular budget smartphone = $1170.54 AUD?

    • +4

Was thinking the same, budget ?

      • +1

Even the rich and famous are on a budget… I guess this phone is designed for them.

  • +23

"Good price for this popular budget smartphone".. LOL

  • +1

Wish it didn't have ColourOS otherwise great spec phone

  • +5

    LOL budget.
You might be slapped with ~$200 worth of GST & Duties so possible price afterwards could be AUD1370.54

  • +2

6.42" does it come with a lanyard to wear it on my neck, this thing is pretty much a tablet in size

    • forgetting screen to body ratio ;)

  • +15

"Good price for this popular budget smartphone"

    It's not popular
    It's not budget

It is overpriced for a 1080p screen smartphone.

    • +2

Seriously what is Opppo thinking, who would buy it over iPhone X for the same price?

  • +4

Well… With the price of iPhone nowadays they allowed to call theirs budget price

  • +3

Is this the right place to mention Mercedes-Benz's new popular budget $140,000 car, or Kanye West's new popular budget $700 runners….

    • +1

Hey Yeezys are only $240 RRP, how dare you besmirch the good name of Mr. West

  • +1

OnePlus 6 for $900. Latest Oppo for $1100. China is really bringing value to the smartphone market in 2018 (sarcasm)…No wonder Apple and Samsung are getting away with charging $1400+.

    • +3

More like Samsung / Apple charging 1400+ and the rest jacking up specs and price point to match.

      • +1

That’s the point. All the other OEM’s have increased their prices and stuck closer to Apple and Samsung in pricing - there’s no longer a significant difference in price between, let’s say, the latest Galaxy and the latest OnePlus for example. There’s no pressure on Apple or Samsung to keep their flagship prices reasonable. The other OEM’s will just continue to follow Apple/Samsung’s pricing trends.

        • +2

The time when $400 is sufficient for a Snapdragon 8 series flagship phone is gone

        • +1

you always pay a premium for a current model flagship phone (android), the things is how quickly the price comes down as others release new phones or the same company releases a new model ……. it’s why i typically wait 12 mths before buying an android phone.

my LG v20 halved in price in 12 mths.

        • @lplsz: Ah, the good old Nexus 5

        • +1

Seriously man, What you talking about?

Newest IPhone X is like 1500 AUSD, then oneplus 6 is around 900. so it is 600 dollar differences.

Back when IPhone was around 1100-1200, Oneplus was around 500-600. So 600 difference.

Sure Oneplus has got more expensive, but there is still a vast difference to IPhone.

And you forgot the fact Oneplus (and other cheaper brand) will drop price and go on sale much more often. So it will come down much faster.

On top of that, there are cheap but still amazing phone out there.

Honor 10 is retailed at 3000 RMB in China, so around 600 AUSD. It is a top of the line phone, flagship. I managed to get one shipped to Australia total cost around 650 AUSD.

Xiaomi 8 SE is around 1800 RMB in china, so 350 AUSD, which you can get your hand on one for 450 ish in Australia.

If you want the latest flagship when it just come out, sure just pay up.

        • -1

@jenesis33: You are comparing the OnePlus to the most expensive version of the three current iPhones (“AUSD” isn’t a thing) to bolster your argument when iPhone 8 starts at $1079 RRP for local stock, with a local two year warranty. Something that doesn’t exist for OnePlus 6 owners in Australia.

If you want a OnePlus 6, you’re looking at about $900. iPhone X (since that’s which model you want to use) have recently been available for around $1200. Hardly the $600 difference you’re claiming.

Of course the OnePlus will drop in price quicker - they release a new model every 6 months! How is that a good thing if you own one? Resale value is terrible.

An Honor 10 for $650 shipped from China? Last years processor with an average camera and virtually no warranty…cool?

    • It's got the biggest screen to body ratio of any phone released. No notch, chin, or forehead.

First phone with a finger print scanner on the screen itself.

      • First phone with a finger print scanner on the screen itself.

And only 6 months too late: The world's first phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner

        • That's not a phone. That's a prototype. A concept.

The actual phone does not exist yet.

The Find X is a released product. They could have teased what they were doing 6+ months ago also but waited until it was a real product.

  • +4

Sliding camera instead of notch, not a bad idea, screen looks nice

    • +1

It's an interesting idea but unsure about how durable it is long term since it is a moving part.

I think Vivo Nex's implementation (which pops up just the front-facing camera) is a bit neater.

      • +1

i’d rather a notch and less moving parts for front facing camera …..

      • From what I have read, Vivo Nex camera is tested to last 50k actuations, while Oppo Find X is tested at 200k actuations.

        • Vivo nex only needs to pop up when taking selfies.

Find x pops up every time you unlock.

  • +5

Come on guys, a smartphone now more than $1,000!
Firstly this is a phablet, why do we need all this power and throw away $ 1,000, I think a $500 phone is more than enough!

    • +3

      Or $200.

  • Phones definitely need 8GB RAM.

Looking forward to next years 32GB phones, we definitely need that!

    • Do you remember a time when desktop computers had 32mb of ram?

  • +1 for calling apples bluff. The 'notch' was just a deliberate flaw introduced to facilitate the next model.

    • I’m intrigued how you think they can have no bezels and not have a notch for the camera, proximity sensor and speaker? Apple do amazing things, but they are magicians.

Btw, Apple weren’t the first to implement a notch.

      • i have no issue with the notch, from a design perspective and getting as much information on the screen as possible it makes sense to me.

      • other phone makers have already done that.

  • +4

    Oppo Find X Smartphone

Marketed to pirates who are having difficulty with their treasure maps.

    • It’s pronounced “find ten” :p

Edit: I’ve never heard anyone say “iPhone ten” by the way

      • True.. Lol

  • +1

It's actually a great phone pushing the full bezel display to a new record beating its chinese cousin vivo Nex. I won't spend that much on a chinese phone which may have unknown issues in the next few months, and after I researched its background, looks like OPPO has showhanded all its investment budget on this phone, if it fails to favour the returns we might not see that company anymore and of course no more OS updates.

    • +1

Are you kidding me? Oppo makes quite a lot of profit. It not gambling to invent the Find X, it's just a way of showing off. It's not going to bankrupt, not before any other phone companies.

    • it's also beaten Apple, not just its cousin Vivo.

Even it's side and bottom bezels are smaller than ipX, without even mentioning the lack of notch.

The past few years have been about shrinking bezels. Oppo has pretty much reached end game. Now someone has to come up with the next new thing, and everyone else is playing catch up.

  • Good price for this popular budget smartphone

    ??????

  • … lol… budget.

  • my opinion NEX will be a better option.

  • +2

    lol
Oppo Find X - BEND TEST FAIL!!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGGe3Z6XmCg

    • Damn I was a little late to post it lol

    • I like how the sliding mechanism is still working despite all that bending and torturing.

    • do they have a blend test also?

If you're not going to be subjecting your phone to that kind of abuse normally, why worry about it?

  • +1

    What, Oppo are this expensive?

Last I checked it was not April 1.

    • -2

      They have some world firsts.

But still cheaper than flagship iPhones or Samsungs. So I'd say it's a fair price. Plus it will go down faster than those two.

  • bammm inflation baby Venezuela here we come

  • +1

Very nice looking phone. But I'm going to wait till it's cheaper.

  • +1

The Mi Mix 2S is half the price. Similar specs. I don't know how Xiaomi do it. And before anyone asks, the Mi Mix 2S has band 28 and NFC.

    • My thoughts too.
      Cost of labour perhaps?

      • Xiaomi makes less than 5% margin on hardware and hopes to make profit via aftermarket sales or capturing you into their ecosystem. Also obviously the whole sliding mechanism requires a fair bit of R&D and tooling.

        • Oops the sliding mechanism no longer works and the phone is out of warranty… cost of repair $250.. $$$ kaching $$$

        • @Sydgun: Yup. No sliding parts or notches for me thanks.

Xiaomi get more customers through word of mouth rather than advertising. Another reason costs are low. In any case, I got one of their phones because my sister and mum had one. And now I recommend their phones to friends.

        • @flaminglemon:

How's the UI? Any bloatware? Is the interface all in English?

        • @Sydgun: UI looks like iOS. Some people like it, some people hate it. If you don't like it, install the Google Now launcher or any other launcher over it.

It does have bloatware, but I personally find some of their apps quite useful. Their app for flashing official roms is very handy. Their remote control app is something I use on a daily basis (because I can never find the TV remote in my house), and their power saver app really helps extend your daily use. Just remember to turn it off for certain apps you want to keep alive.

As for the bloatware I don't find useful at all, just disable them and block notifications. I admit it can be really annoying when it starts nagging you to log into your Xiaomi account, so I just hide them.

I've used MIUI even before Xiaomi made phones, and it was my favourite rom back in the day. These days though, like I said above, I just install the Google Now launcher on top of MIUI.

EDIT: Yes, it's all in English.

  • Is this unlocked?

  • This is probably the first "notchless" phone (where the camera ect. is hidden behind the screen) I've seen for sale. Shit price, but glad to see them.

  • +1

    Oppo Find X

Perhaps call Apple to find x.

Cheap brand using x to try and get on the gravy train. Sad.

  • What a ridiculous price. Top end phone prices are out of control, however I'd feel sick paying more than $400 for an Oppo. Their phones look nice, yet the phone itself is inferior. My sister has an R9 plus and it's awful.

    • I loved my R9+ :)

Hi guys, for all your neg comments, really really check out youtube review video and you will find more high-tech than iPhones, I am from China, OPPO used to make crap, not this time. Check out how they design the moving camera and all these sensors to have this amazing screen.

    • +1

OPPO used to make crap, not this time.

perhaps not crap, but their quality certainly isn't worth paying >$1k.

  • Might wanna Check out jerry rig everything on you tube, he did a durability review on this phone, didn't come out too good.
