  • Like the look of the backflip - cnet review states it was released at $999.99 just in May last year!

Is it possible to unlock the X10 mini or Backflip (free or for a small fee)?

    • +1

you need to recharge $60, I reckon.

      • +1

        isn't it $80?

      • Yes, usually it's an $80 unlock fee within the first 6 months unless you have recharged to $80 value, then it's free. Not sure after 6 months?

    • i did my backflip from Cellunlocker.net only 7.99 US $. You give them IMEI#, they provide the unlock code, pretty easy.

      • Sweet as. Do they offer paypal payment?

      • Looks like they can only unlock Vodafone in Australia.

  • I am looking for a cheap mobile.

apart from NOKIA E71 (I know it's really good one), any other recommendation?

    • +2

The E71's probably the worst of this bunch. Do yourself a favour and choose one of the Android phones, Symbian's dead. Nokia's officially shelving it in favour of WP7, so goodbye support/updates.

      • Symbian’s dead.

        androids are now here

        • +1

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Symbian OS. Personally I love it!

The E63 fits the bill perfectly for $99 - via Optus.

The Nokia E63 which is practically the same as the E71 ( except it's a plastic build instead of metal, no gps and has a lower MP camera (2.0MP vs 3.2MP) - although both are terrible - however the e63 gains a built in flash light as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack vs a 2.5mm found on the E71.

  • Arg, I dunno whether to get the LG Optimus or the Backflip. Anyone wanna put me out of my misery?

    • Might be Backflip? I am struggling either

    • Go backflip. I got an optimus and it was so bad that 3 were happy to return it. The speed is ridiculous (imagine running windows 7 on an old 600mhz PC with 128mb of ram) and the battery life is even worse.

    • Thanks guys! Backflip it is :)

    • Have any of the above recommendations used a Backflip? It comes loaded with Android 1.5. Can it be upgraded to Android 2.1 (outside of the USA)?

The Backflip could be just as slow as the Optimus. It has a slower processor compared to the Optimus.

      • it can upgraded to 2.1, but not easy. After spending 10+ hours on android forums and several non working tutorials.

    • +1

Don't purchase backflip. Nor LG optimus. Better grab huawei ideos U8150

      $129 from crazyjohns

      • It looks good, but is it locked to Crazy Johns? Cuz I've got a TPG sim card..

  • Hey guys,

Looking for a new android phone, thinking about either getting the XPERIA X8, the X10 mini or the HUAWEI IDEOS U8150.

    Any suggestions would be awesome

    Thanks

I would also like to hear feedback from anyone that has used the X8. It looks like a good phone at a very decent price. Basically only $175 taking into account the bonus $50 Visa gift card.

      • Yeah, I'd like to know what the touchscreen is like.

  • So let me get this straight, I can use any other SIM that use optus network such TPG and amaysim?

    • Correct.

  • backflip is upgradable to android 2.2

    nice size screen.

    5mp camera.

I need a phone and want this one. -but on a budget at the moment :(

    • The upgrade to Android v2.2 is certainly not supported by Motorola, so your warranty will be void. I don't think even an upgrade to v2.1 is officially supported by Motorola in Australia, according to their website. AT&T Backflip users in the US have been able to officially upgrade to v2.1 since November, but I believe in Oz you are stuck with the long out-dated v1.5 if you want official support.

Anything is upgradeable if you are willing to spend the hours and effort in doing so, along with frustrations and incompatibilities along the way.
