Man the deal back in Christmas for the s8/iphone 8 etc was so much better….

  • -7

For extra $5 you can get the iPhone 8 plus

News is that apple will be launching 3 new handsets this year and all will look same as iPhone x but different size.

After those releases, I guess iPhone 8 wont hold its resale value.

Samsung is not changing design, so resale should remain same.

      • -4

How does iphone release concern Android user?

        • +3

How does $5 extra gonna change android user to apple??

    • the link is there for those who are on iOS.

      • Start a new deal. Why would apple people come to this post

  • +2

You can get it cheaper if you can sign up through Optus Student Hub. Still overpriced :/ I deducted the cost of 7GB Kogan plan over 24 months for example and the phone-only costs end up being pretty much retail. I for one am waiting for prices to drop. Note 9 is coming out soon ;)

    • If you do that with every phone, you will find all phones are expensive.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ was selling for $999 after 25% eBay plus discount.

I think it is still a good deal considering phone cost.

Umm not reaaaallly. Just over 2 years ago I waited for the 25% off family and friends deal off Optus and got the S7 on a plan for the equivalent of $400-something when prices were still in the $700-800 something mark, even for overseas stock. Good/great deals come around, I wouldn't say this is one of them. The recent S9+ deal at 25% isn't common since we most often see 20% eBay deals, but that's still cheaper than the Optus equivalent handset cost, with the added perk of not being locked into a 24 month plan and watching better value phone plans being released.

If people who want the S9+ like me can wait a few more months, especially with a fully functioning phone and only want to upgrade for the sake of luxury (I've got a pristine condition S7, upgrading a phone is a want, not a need), a better deal will come along. That better deal in the future, literally saving hundreds, makes it easier to justify upgrading when it isn't really a necessity.

Completely different story if someone NEEDS this phone right now. For that reason it's great that you posted the deal when you found it, but my comment was to warn off other people from impulse buying and regretting it down the line.

Again you are missing the point. Wait till May next year and you will find that Samsung will release new Galaxy handset (not note) and S9 will be cheaper than what it is costing today. Whenever new handset comes, older handset gets cheaper. I didn't see any deal for S8 or S9 as you mentioned for S7?

It is always a good deal if people can buy handset outright and take plan for calls only or even better go pre-paid but not everyone can do that.

Again want and need is a different story and different for everyone. Your situation can't be applicable to everyone.

        • @sonu1111: But then it's only 12 months until the next one and it will start dropping in price.

Btw I'm on the Pixel 2 XL deal and that is arguably (along with the $59 Optus iPhone 8 deal) the only ones worth going on a contract for versus outright + Sim only plan.

        • @sonu1111: I understand your point, but you need to remember that people weigh up cost against having it sooner. With the release of another flagship Samsung phone and new iPhones coming out soon, many people will be willing to continue using their perfectly fine phones until they see a deal which they consider worth upgrading. There are deals which are good for people who need it now and there are better deals for people who wait a little longer. My point was that in my own opinion, this deal would not convince me to upgrade for the sake of an upgrade since the cost of the phone would be pretty much retail if you take into account the phone plan itself, and because I have a phone that still does everything I need it to do. Of course my situation isn't applicable to everyone, that's a truism, and it's the same for people in your situation which would see this as a good deal.

https://www.kogan.com/au/koganmobile/?ref=department-menu Assume you pick the 7GB 365 day plan for $223.88pa (18.66pm), over 24 months the cost of the phone would be 1776-(2*223.88) = $1328.24. That's insane when you think about it…

Obviously the plan and provider are subject to preference, but it's a good example to show how much money a person can save if they wait for a better deal, or research if buying outright is cheaper with their chosen phone plan.

        • @shrugies: some people live from pay cheque to pay cheque and are heavily in debt so buying outright is not an option. I always buy outright and then buy 365 days plan from Kogan when it's on 40% discount but I can see why.

        • @Bigboomboom: Yeah, that's true, totally agree. Saving up to buy everything upfront takes time. That's literally me right now though lmao, uni student who needs to work more and try to save more while balancing uni etc. So especially in situations where people are living paycheque to paycheque, who have a working phone and don't NEED to upgrade, it's better to wait for a better value deal. But if someone needs a phone and they want the latest and greatest, this might be the best offer out there atm on a plan. Different strokes for different folks in the end.

    • I will never again wait for a Note release. To many bad memories with Note 7

      • I haven't done my research on the Note 9 yet. Just hoping it lowers the S9+ to a reasonable price LOL

What phone do you have now?

  • +1

    Note 9 in 1 weeks

    • +2

note 10 in 1 year..and note 11 in 2 years..if you talk like that its never end

      • Haha! Well if you don't need a phone right this instant and want to avoid impulse buying, good deals eventually come around :) just depends how badly you need/want it and if you can justify paying for it.

E.g. If I had waited 3 months after getting my new car I would have been able to take up an offer/deal from Subaru with 5 years factory warranty vs the standard 3 years :(

      • Note 9 will be Samsung's last Note device if it sells like the Note 8.

        • Isn't it the best selling Note yet?

      • There's a difference between 1 week and 1 year. -.-

I'm sure 99.9% of people who are looking for a Note can wait 1 week.

    • Note 10 (Huawei) released.

  • 7gb that’s so 2014

    • I was getting 5gb in 2011

      • Im Getting 60gb on a $35 sim only plan on optus :) gotta get lucky sometimes

This is not a lease deal, you need to click the 'own a phone' tab to see the correct plan for $74/month. It defaults to leasing plans from $79 which this deal isn't for.

      BUYING PLANS STARTING FROM:
      $74
      per month
      $59
      plan
      +
      $15
      phone

    • +1

Jeez if only you clicked "own this phone" you would get this pricing keyboard warrior….

      • +1

Easy mistake to make. Be nice. We're all friends here.

        • not when I mention iOS, get a lot of negs :-(

  • They have the S9 for $69 on the same plan. anyone seen it cheaper? - don't mind if its less data.

  • I am regretting that I didn't get s8 from them in Apr, when it was 47 per month.

    • Same here :(

    • They will do the same for s9. Just wait patiently

      • Yeah, they will in April next year.

    • You are probably better off. I signed up on the 2nd. took 14 days to port the number.

  • I had a discussion yesterday afternoon with them.
An absolute blank wall response when I ask for bundle discounts with my internet.

I am pulling the pin with three phones I have which are out of contract.
Goodbye Optus, I am buying three phones outright and sims elsewhere

Business must be good I guess.

  • When do Optus do the friends and family sale. Nothing has been posted recently. They used to be on all the time. A 25% discount would be nice about now.
