Speaking of old consoles, I saw a 500GB PS3 for $99 as well.

The 2ds with mario kart is an amazing deal

  • Are both of these hackable? is an r4 card still the go?

    • -1

      Yes both hackable.

    • a) yes b) for original DS games yes

    • +1

Yes, and for DS games you can just use DSIMenu++ on a modded 3ds.

      • Thanks mate, I had no idea about this!

        • +1

You can't play too many games this way, flashcart still best for DS games

        • -1

@Quantumcat: ah I might sick with the cart then

    • +1

      Arm9

I have an R4i Gold from years back. Used it on multiple 2DS systems and a N3DSXL, works fine on the lot as you'd expect. Could even use online on the odd thing like Chinatown Wars connecting to the Social Club, etc.

You can install Game Boy and other older generation emulators onto the R4 and run them fine, nice easy way to get stuff done without having to actually do a mod to the console (even though the modding is supposedly hella easy, I still can't be bothered, happy with my old PSP for emulation tbh)

the process of killing off the 3ds begins

    • +2

I doubt the DS will go away for a while to come. The revenue from Pokemon alone is enough to warrant keeping it around.

      • +2

true, but ultimately they are killing it off, i guess it will be a slow process

        • +2

Killin it off till the 4DS comes out lol

        • +2

@Danstar: Can't wait to travel through time with Mario and Link

        • @ONEMariachi: Surely ther'll be a virtual reality mario game one day

      • But the next main title is on the Switch.

They're not killing it, just silently moving on while claiming they're continuing to support it while the lack of new content that gives the opposite impression.

The 3DS is a fantastic console, there's a lot of fantastic content, but I wouldn't be buying one expecting it to grow and become better than it currently is, Nintendo is moving all of their focus onto the Switch.

        • +49

You could even say their focus is… switching

        • +8

          @Zorlin: (••) ( ••)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)

  • Any others got this in stock?

  • +7

This is a fantastic portable emulation device, easily hack it, slap on SNES, Mega-Drive, GameBoy and other consoles, you can then imagine making your younger self envious.

    • +59

… and play the emulators for 60 minutes and then never touch them again.

      • +6

Honestly, jokes aside, that's me with a lot of these things when I install an emulator on a new toy. I put like 30gb of old games on there only to play half an hour here and there and never go back.

I have actually finished a couple of Game Boy games on my 3310's emulator though which is dope.

        • +2

Second this.. graphics and gameplay age so much better in memory

        • +1

When I was around 12 years old my brother got a game boy colour for christmas. He later bought pokemon yellow. We were not good at sharing our toys so I got to play it here and there but never completed it. In my 20s I bought a DS lite and R4 card. Finally got to play it through properly and finish it. It was so satisfying…. also had a good go at tetris (multiplayer mode ftw) and lemmings.

      • +14

I spend more time setting things up like this than I ever do use them. I like the idea of it more than doing it.

        • +2

          100%

        • +1

I bought 4 full size arcade cabs and moved them to my flat then from my flat into storage then from storage into my house 7 years ago. I only plugged one in for the first time a fortnight ago lol.I definitely like the idea of them.

        • +4

Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one who spends more time tinkering and hacking than actually playing. I set up the Switch with SX Pro hack a couple of weeks ago - loaded up the 256GB card with 20 of the best titles on the system and once it was set up I never touched it again. Knowing that it's there set up and ready to go at any time is enough for me. Yes I have a problem…

        • +1

          100%

In the dark old days of C64 I used to enjoy 'accumulating' software, labelling them, putting the titles Into a database, numbering them and storing them much better than actually most of them…..

Then with the old Wii I would do something similar and store them all on a portable hard drive ready to play…

        • @BartholemewH: I really want an Arcade cabinet, but I have no idea when I'd use it. Might use one if it uses light guns.

        • @merajaan: We should start a support group, so many hacked consoles yet when I get a chance to play a game it's a bought game on the PS4.

        • @BartholemewH:
          Wanna sell one?

  • Is it in store only?

  • Decent deals here, will keep my eye out but not expecting much.

I was in EB Swanston Street today, with the "Nintendo Experience", of which the only other two in the world are in Tokyo and New York and long story short, the guy straight up said they've stopped making 3DS consoles all together, and are still pumping out 2DS units for the moment but not for that much longer.

I don't know if that's been announced or not, to be honest I don't think about the 3DS line at all anymore, but I haven't heard that news before, though tbh I probs might have just forgot if it is common knowledge.

  • +1

I keep hanging out for a deal on the limited edition SNES new 3ds xl…

    • +1

You may never get a runout deal on that one

    • +1

I pre-ordered it. There aren't many stupid things I see that make me think "I need that," but the SNES 3DS is one. Just get one. They're beautiful and it will make you feel happy.

  • Looks like a visit to all my local Big Ws

    • +1

Should call them first to check price and stock.

      • +5

That'll just alert the staff to the sale for themselves to buy it.

    • -1

By time u factor in all the time and fuel u wasted - getting one at normal price works out cheaper

  • +1

Not for my store. Perth Livingstone and reiverton both nothing

    • Anything on clearance at all at riverton? Was planning on going tomorrow but might just go cockburn central

      • +13

        cockburn central

It's just a video game console, no need to do that to yourself.

      • -4

        Brothels sell Nintendos now?

  • Anyone checks Sydney's Bigw?

    • +1

I went yesterday or the day before to collect an eBay parcel and went straight past this section, didn't see anything like this (Macquarie NSW)

      • Macquarie always has nothing left.

        • That's true. Still might be hope for some stores in Sydney

  • -1

Double checking big w didn't mislabel it or anything but, it's NOT XL version right?

    • You can see in the photo what the item is.

  • +1

Doesnt seem to be any 3DS consoles within 50km fairfield area … maybe there are some left in the city?

    • +1

How can u tell at this time ?

      • +1

i have a friend that worked today and messaged him if he could check for me because … I wanted to buy one for myself and wanted him to put it on hold for me :C I was so hyped now im just sad.

        • +1

          How about 2DS near Melbourne?

  • +12

This is not necessarily nation wide, Big W are doing a massive clearance on items that aren't selling with most being 50-60% off. But the items chosen are store specific, there might be items that are common but each store has their own list of items to clear.

  • +2

Should I get old 2DS or the 3ds in this deal?

    Is this the new 3DS?

    • Wanting to know this too. Are these the 'new' new 3DS?

      • Thats what the label in the image says, so i'd pick the 3DS. If you want Mario Kart grab both since Mario Kart basically goes for that price anyway and then regift the 2DS to a relative or something as a cheap bday present, resell it or whatever.

        • +3

Mario Kart 7 is installed in the console (not as a separate cartridge).

If you give away the console, the game goes with it too.

        • @silverrat23: unless you transfer the contents to the 3ds beforehand, in which case the ownership of the game will be transferred.

        • @fratzhaus: Yeah I was assuming a transfer could be used.

  • +3

    You're famous!! haha don't mind me :)

    • Does anyone actually ask permission to use images anymore?

      • Watermark everythiiing

        • Watermarks just make your image ugly and the ratbag that's going to steal it either crops it out or blurs or clones it.

    • The article says "he sent it in"

      • I know, maybe tell that to the others though…

  • Rip when the only BigW you can get to before work is in your capital cities CBD :(

  • Snagged a Pokemon 2DS at Big W in Tuggeranong. Nothing else left in stock.

    • That's my local! Nothing else of note (in or out of electronics) that you saw?

      • +1

Nope, sorry :( Only really skimmed the games and asked about the consoles. They just had the one Pokemon 2DS in the back of the cupboard.

  • Does the 2ds come with mario kart?

    • Yes it is - I can see it in the photo. Will check it out. Would like the game, and keep the 2ds for when my toddler is a little older. See if my local has it…

      • +3

Mario Kart is pre-installed, not physical copy.

        • Ah ok thanks. Not as good…

        • @Dan83: actually, I just found out, u need to download it. I presume it will only let you do that on the latest firmware so I'm thinking for myself, I got the console on its own cause I'm gonna jailbreak it or whatnot.

  • They got two pink 2DS with Mario Kart 7 at MacArthur in Brisbane CBD

    • Only 8 more and we have a deal!

  • Does it include the SNES 3DS?

    • No that’s 249

      • Bugga, cheers :-)

  • +3

FYI, Nothing at Melbourne CBD store.

  • +1

    Nothing at Eastland VIC

  • -1

Are there any 3ds exclusives or are they all backward compatible?

  • Staff member in the technology department at my local said this is store specific and the stock is pretty old ("good luck finding one"). He said you will most likely find them in rural locations where stock doesn't move very fast. Hope that helps.

  • +4

Nothing at Doncaster VIC and they hate OzBargain :)

    • +3

They hate ozbargain coz it makes them have to do work

    • Funny, must have been the same guy i spoke with. Told me to forget it and move on with my life basically…

  • Don't be sad, can always get a pre-owned one for $98, $1 less:
    https://ebgames.com.au/3ds-150615-Nintendo-3DS-Refurbished-b…

    • +3

      Nope, that's an old model.

      • what's the difference tbh?

        • +2

Bigger and higher quality screens, better face buttons, customizable face plates, face tracking 3D (won't lose 3D focus if you move your head or 3DS), faster specs so it can run some games better and new 3DS exclusive games, C stick and two extra trigger buttons on the back that act like the circle pad pro, and overall more solid build quality

        • @Yuri Lowell:
          So a lot then.

        • @BartholemewH: Yup. New 3DS is vastly superior to the original 3DS.

      • So is the one being sold at Big W for $99

        • Nope, the image above specifies that it's the N3DS, not the O3DS.
