Telstra $49 15GB BYO Plan with “Peace of Mind Data” Included

105

Logged into my Telstra 24/7 App today and saw a widget ad for the new $49 endless data plan.

Seems like it’s the regular “S” plan available on the website - but this offer includes the unlimited “Peace of Mind Data”

Plan includes:
15gb data
Unlimited local calls and texts
12 month contract
Peace of Mind Data

  • How much without "Peace of Mind Data"?

    • +19

The only peace of mind is Telstra's own because it locks you into a contract.

      • +1

With that kind of slow down it should be called piece of **it data.

  • -3

Why would I waste my money with Telstra when I can buy a Boost Mobile recharge of $40, get 15GB, no contract and with international calls included?
Not to mention Telstra is managed by clueless and brainless foreign dudes who don't even comply with the Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman's rules?

    • +4

And if I recall correctly, Boost use the full Telstra network (unlike Aldimobile, etc), so reception wise it should be 100% the same.

      • So is belong

    • boost is every 28 days expiry, that means in a year you will recharge 13x rather than paying 12x if it is monthly…..

      • +1

Set up auto recharge on Boost and it also becomes 12x recharge payments.

    • Cheap movie tickets.

  • +2

Worth mentioning this is meant to be a companion plan and you're supposed to have an existing primary service or take up another service with this plan.

    • It's for a new service only, or the "peace of mind" unlimited but capped data offer does not apply, or you can pay an extra $10 and get the capped data.

Along with sacking a s#it load of staff recently, Telstra have dropped the ball a bit with these new plans, and I'm sure people will exodus to other Telcos when (like me) they realise their old (in my case corporate discounted) plan is no longer available and the new plans actually offer LESS value than some mobile plans from last year. I'm considering porting mine and the other work phones to another network just out of principal.

JB HiFi seem like they have next to no special offers for Telstra anymore, and no gift vouchers mentioned. I'm happy to be proven wrong by some savvy OzBargainer…

Throw in a Pixel 2XL and we'll talk.

    • +1

Just the Pixel 2 would be good enough for me :-)

    Not really a bargain

      • This Telstra plan shapes to 1.5mbit after 15gb but carries on working at no additional cost. How does Boost work?

      • +15

People like you make newbies afraid to post deals that might be good! Don't like it, just neg the deal and say why.

I don't think you had to be an idiot. Go on, neg me.

      • There is also Belong 15GB $40 no contract, data bank

  • +4

No data pooling, piss off Telstra.

  • +2

Not sure how this is a bargain. Better off with the 59$ price and a 200$ voucher at JB.

    $49 endless data plan.

    15GB

(profanity) off Telstra you misleading (profanity).

    • +5

It's shaped to 1.5mbps after 15gb, it's not entirely misleading.

      • -6

Considering 1.5Mbps (capitalisation is important) is almost unusable, yeah it is. It's basically "15GB of usable service then good luck with anything else".

        • +1

It'd be fine for me, but it seems pretty clear what's being offered based on the attached image anyway.

        • @antenna: Without reading the fine print?
Who is going to listen to you?

        • -1

          @dealhunt:
Fine print? Don't know about that. The attached image literally says $49 = 15GB, refers to back up data and even advises it's not suitable for all purposes. Fine print my ass.

        • +2

Considering 1.5Mbps (capitalisation is important) is almost unusable

Considering that's what I get from my home ISP…

        • @Chandler: hahaha this is exactly what I came here to comment - I don't get much above this sometimes..

          @antenna:

          Fine print my ass.

This post already got 4 negative votes plus many rude comments made by rude fanbois.

  • This is almost what I'm looking for. Pity international calls aren't included otherwise it would be perfect for me.

    • +1

      Look at Boost
I'm on Aldi but will be moving to boost because of the international calling.

      • Thanks for remininding me to check out Boost. It looks pretty good since you can set up direct deposit for a full 30/31 day cycle.
I'll have to decide if I stick with my current plan, or pay a bit more for Boost but have extra data.

187.5 KBps, loading websites, email should be fine but forget streaming music or video

    • +1

      Totally fine for music streaming.

Streaming services' highest bitrate hangs around 320Kbps (40KBps).

You could almost stream 5 songs at the same time from Google Play Music at the highest quality.

  • Thank you OP. I think its a good deal for people like me who:

    • Dont want to worry about extra fees at the end of the month.
    • Do not care about international calls.
    • Do not mind 12-month plans (time flies to fast, I would barely notice the lock-in period).
  • If you want "peace of mind data", and "mostly" Telstra, the Belong $40 plan might be for you:

    $40 per month
15GB of data plus unlimited national & international calls & text included
Data shaped (ie "peace of mind") at 64kbps - it's rubbish but passable for email etc

  • Excellent deal if you can use the Apple Watch esim with this plan.

  • +4

    Dreadful deal!
I signed up with Telstra last month for $49pcm & receive 25GB & also got a $200 JB voucher!
