Checked around 30 deals most were 5% off and the highest discount was 12% off

    • +5

ive done a few of these up to % off deals,

the chances of hitting the highest % is the same odds as powerball

    • mine was 10% for Janpanese buffet

    • Yeah I just ignore the groupon "up to" vouchers now because they're just wasting your time.

The site wide flat 15% off everything codes are vastly preferable in almost all cases.

  • Beware Groupon. My friend and I both had our accounts cancelled yesterday for using the travel % off code and cashback. I doubt I'll ever see my Groupons again. $1000 down the drain

    • +11

      that doesnt sound right!
surely there is more to the story

      • Yep, please tell the full story

      • -1

There isn't. I spoke to three people this morning, got through to call centre floor manager and they are now saying in 3 business days they will have an answer to why my friend and my account has been cancelled. My Amex was charged for my tour and my friends purchased has been refunded with no explanation. A lot of 'I'm sorry sir' was said with the matter now going to their Bangalore office. My theory is they just don't want to take off $160 that we saved using the Break code and cash rewards.

        • +1

          $1000 down the drain

so you havent lost $1000 ?!?!

        • -3

@hellohello123: did you not read my card was charged and my other coupons are gone?

        • @UberIsCool:

" My Amex was charged for my tour and my friends purchased has been refunded with no explanation."

        • Well thats illegal, they can't just charge your credit card and not give you the deal, they have to honour the deal or offer you a refund. There is no consideration, so theres technically no contract or transaction between you and Groupon. If worst comes to worst just get your bank to do a charge back on your credit card for the transaction.

        • -1

@AtheistPeace: yeah that'll be my plan after I wait 3 business days which will be Tuesday next week. Then I'll have to do a transaction charge back which will take certain time.

Groupon have a 1/5 Star customer service rating. I used to be a big fan but I'm negging now as per Ozbargain rules

        • +1

when did you pay? You need to give them time sort it out.
Can you wait for 3 business days and tell us what their answer to your solution?
my experiences with Groupon were reasonably good, everytime a seller or merchandise went wrong, they can sort it out for me. except many years ago they stuffed me up once but later resolved after my complaints to their US customer service.
if worst to happen you can always ask AMEX to charge back, no money will lose, maybe some of your time…

        • -1

@Jamesx: I will definitely post the resolution on here if there is one. If it's simply a refund then I will be even more furious as I've already wasted too much time on this

        • @UberIsCool: I had a similar experience a month ago.

I had 3 different accounts and had credits on most of them. I purchased vouchers using the credits and all of a sudden they have suspended all my three accounts.

I didn't bother much as i had 3 accounts, which i believe is against their T&C

        • @spk: I only have one. Did you get any refunds? Or groupons back?

        • -2

@hellohello123: glad you signed off with your real name

        • @UberIsCool: no I didn't bother to call them and demand as it was my mistake having multiple accounts and credits accumulated.

I also used to purchase some voucher, and then cancel it to get a credit refund, which would extend the expiry :)

but I lost all my active vouchers and leftover credits.

This was the email i received then:
          Thanks for your patience

My guess is that you have missed our email on 16/05/2018, Not to worry I have mentioned the same below for your reference.

Maybe he and his imaginary friend together has over 100 accounts.

    • +5

Lol. Could you be more dramatic. You haven’t lost $1000.

      • When all my Groupon come back and become valid then I'll take it back but as it stands they are all invalid and other users who have had accounts deleted lost them all

        • +1

It’s a credit card, just do a charge back if required. Groupon can be a little shifty but there is no way they are going to take your money and not give it back as that’s just plain illegal and bad for business.

        • +1

@snagseb: exactly, especially since the worst groupon can do is close the account(s), and they've already done that. So I'd ask once for the already paid for groupon(s) to be reinstated or reimbursed, and if that didn't happen inside a week I'd be straight onto the PayPal dispute /credit card chargeback, because there is no downside. I fail to see how $1000 has been lost at all. If you get all your money back then you've lost nothing except time, and almost no business will compensate for lost time.

        • @nickj: I have many previous purchases

        • @UberIsCool: So they have to reinstate those groupons, or reimburse you for the cost you paid for them. Politely yet firmly inform them of this, state that you will be doing a chargeback if they do not, give them a week, and then do it. Ideally you would have paid by paypal as then you have 2 lines of defence (the PayPal dispute, followed by the Credit card chargeback, if that's not satisfactory).

        • @nickj: yep, more hours wasted, thank the man who invented speaker phone
