  • HAHAHA, sounds like a more fancy way for them to take our money!

  • I just got mine a few mins ago. Probably about a 30 minute wait but I was given priority as I have a Platinum Charge grad. Pretty stylish wrist band (you wrap it around the wrist twice).
They’re definitely giving out more than 1000 wrist bands. I think the ‘first 1000’ line is just some good ol’ marketing.
Haven’t tested out the band yet but looking forward to paying my morning coffee with it 😃

Just got my band at 7pm. Plenty of people queuing up. There’s obviously more than a 1000 - this is also confirmed by the guy over the counter.

  • Just got mine and still plenty more. Thought I'd give an update.

They have 2 colours Black and Blue. To be honest, this wearable thing is too much of a hype. The chip is only a small part on the band and when you wear it moves so often when you tap it is not at a right position so you will have to try again. I have tried a few times and just can't be bother, using my Google Pay is better.

    • This is correct. Used it on a Bendigo bank pos and had to reposition.

      • The NFC chip is just the very small part where word AMEX is engraved so most of the time I tap I always got error.

        • These are free for a reason. I think they considered making them and did this as a test batch, with sad/average results.

          @Lukian:

Used mine 8 times (3 different locations) on Friday night, worked first time each time. Not sure why people are having issues.

I did check for the logo on the band being roughly in the middle of my wrist before lowering it to the POS terminal but everything just worked. Its a nice gadget.

  • Confirmed that there’s more than 1,000 bands. The setup is a little strange too. They have a priority access lane for Platinum and Centurion cardholders, but that only gets you into the lounge – if you want the band you need to wait in the standard queue and they give you a band just prior to you entering the lounge. Rather annoying.

    • Earlier in the day, bands could also be done within the lounge, as well as in queue before entry. I think in the mid-afternoon, they moved the stall out bands could only be done before access into the lounge. Not sure why they moved the amex band stall outside, but maybe to provide more space for people in the lounge. Despite the queues, Amex were good with crowd control inside the lounge in that it never felt too packed inside.

      • The queues were getting too long so they moved the band-stand and enrolling staff to the front at about 1pm

  • Sorry but I didn't see any posts regarding supplementary cards. Can you get one for each? Do you need ID? And how do they activate the band?

    Thanks

    • +1

They were issuing bands for supplementary cards. They were asking for photo ID that matched the card name. Linking and activation was done on the spot using their tablet.

      • Cheers for the prompt reply. Answered all my answers too:)

guess only one band for me then.

      • sorry possibly stupid question. but if i bring my mrs id and her amex card can i have band for her as well? she doesnt work in the city

        • Depends on the staff, are you an authorised person on her account?

        • @Lukian: hmm doesnt matter i dont think mrs will like it anyway

When I was there they ask for ID if you bring the physical card but they told me if you use Google Pay or Apple Pay then just tap the phone, you don't need to show ID.

      • That's because you have to unlock the phone, which is technically a form of id/two-factor.

      • thanks. will gove it a shot

More than 500 people on the line here

    • In the Sydney line? Jeez that sounds like a longer than lunch break wait then :(

      • Yes, the line is moving though 🐌🐢

    • Seriously? Damn

    • and now?

      • There might be 500 people at the whole thing but the line for the bands wasn't massive (maybe 20 people). I waited maybe 10 minutes to get mine about 30 minutes ago. I used Google Pay with my card, no ID check, just unlocking your phone. The wait to enter the lounge was about the same, but you get a free donut, sushi roll and a campari cocktail drink or a bottle of Perrier sparkling water. There's also the soft serve ice cream line and some other stuff I didn't check out.

i dont believe there were 500 probably AG1304x was just joking.

          went at 1.15pm:
3 mins queu for the band - photo id required
2 mins queu to get in to the free sushi area - just card they dont check id
i took 2 sushis and 1 donut and skip the drink.
sushi quality is so so almost bad

Just went, short queue had maybe 10-15 in front but takes a bit of time to check your card, ID and activate the band to link it to your AMEX. Then get an express link to the lounge as mentioned about with a free cocktail, sushi and donut.

PS: Only seem to have the double wrap bands available but plenty left. Had choice of black or navy (can see what they both look like inside the display cabinet which you pass by in the queue

  • Are there any band left anyone there knows?

  • The black band looks like something you'd get as part of a bondage set

      you watched too much ……

  • Fixed. It was some other charge.
