  • do we need to use xiaomi router to use this?

    • No,dont need xiami router

    • +9

Does require a Xiaomi multifunctional gateway to use though.

        • +10

I'm almost certain that the 'Zigbee Version' requires a Gateway/Hub for it to work.

        • +3

@RichardL: Yes, you are right. This will not work without the gateway.

      • Yes

    • You need a ZigBee hub but it doesn't need to be Xiaomi. I have two of these paired with an Osram hub, just using the Osram app to do the pairing. I also have a couple of WeMo lights on the hub.

  • Any deal on the Xiaomi Mi Smart Wi-Fi Socket, without Zigbee?

I prefer the non-Zigbee as the Zigbee Version requires a Gateway.

    • The coupon "DD4save6X" also work on this socket.

      • +5

Was hoping to get it closer to the previous deal of USD $7.99 (~AUD $10.34)

        • Sorry. Next time we will consider this. Zigbee Version is also a good choice, and the price really really great.

        • @joyee003: I would purchase the Zigbee version, but don't have a gateway for it to function.

        • @RichardL: If you dont have a gateway, you need to choose others, it's need gateway. Sorry about that.

        • I'm waiting for the wifi version too. Its been a couple of months now

      • One one allowed per order. That's a bummer

    • Zigbee give energy monitoring. Non Zigbee lacks this

  • OP this has been $10.34 before .. please match https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/369119

    • Different items. It's Zigbee Version, can control with APP

      • +9

Ah! my mistake. I'll buy 1 as an apology.

      • can control with APP

You can't control the zigbee version without the gateway. Yes, you can control from it from the app but you still need the gateway!

        • +1

So can control with APP :)

  • -1

Will thia work with hue gateway

    • No.

  • +1

My god! They really need work on their website. The checkout form where you enter your address is a nightmare.

    • Sorry about that. Be free let me know if you have any good suggestions for improvement? Welcome your feedback.

      • When you select the country, the drop down doesnt show it. But apparently it is selected because if you click save, the form proceeds.

  • Do you sell the xiaomi smart home kit? Any deal on that? Pretty please? :)

  • This item must match the Xiaomi multifunctional gateway to use.

I have one of these Zigbee version. Must I really use the Xiaomi Multifunctional Gateway?

  • This is the only piece of the Xiaomi 6 in 1 home kit that I haven't found a use for yet, what are other people using it for?

    • +1

Hooked up to my electric blanket. Turn it on when im on my way home

    • You can basically turn any 'dumb' device into a smart device, so should look towards appliances that you tend to use often, or during specific situations.

Eg. Connect it to your heater and then link it to your temperature sensor so that if the temperature falls below x, it'll turn the heater on, and when the temp is above y, it'll turn it off.

Or perhaps something like connecting it to your fish tank filter/lights so that it turns on at specific times, etc.

The best/fun thing about these is that it's really only limited by your imagination, and it's quite satisfying to come up with a use for it and then revel in your glory and silence the naysayers in your family when it all works according to plan.

      • i want to use google home to voice control swtich on… can this work ?

i missed out on tplink $20 deal

        • Yes, if your ZigBee hub is supported by Google Home.

    • places where I don't have a smart bulb I use this. Also turning on the insect repellent when it's dark.

    • I've got one hooked up to an outdoor light that has a switch high and hard to reach. Synced it to a xiaomi button on Home Assistant that I can place in a more accessible place.
Once I get more outdoor lights set up I plan on putting them on a schedule using one of these to turn on and off automatically.

    • +1

Power monitoring on my home server, washing machine and dryer.

I have Home Assistant set up to send me a text message when the dryer power usage drops, telling me it's finished and to get my damn clothes out.

The socket does overload if the dryer is on high heat but works fine when on low heat.

      • What happens when it overloads? I really want power monitoring on my high power draw devices but I get worried they aren't cut out for it.

        • +2

It cuts power and blinks a red light. You'll need to turn it on again. I actually use these as a local breaker when I'm testing antique electronics for this purpose.

        • @s732: Terrible but clever!

  • I have an echo plus (with the zigbee hub built-in). Will this will control the wifi sockets? I'm not that familar with the zigbee protocol.
I have a number of xiaomi LED lights that I control with the yeelight echo skill. I also have a number of xiaomi cameras.
I'm not sure what I would do with a wifi power socket though. What do others use it for?

    • Yes, I believe it does. I have one which I think is exaclty the same and after adding an Alexa skill or something it worked fine. I can still control the device but it now fails to turn power off and on. I'm going to return hopefully. I've also bought two more of these.

  • I have had two of these stop working correctly on me, basically letting power through regardless of whether the unit is active or not. YMMV. Kind of curious to hear about failure rates from other Ozbargainers though.

    • I only have one unit currently (successfully) controlling a heat lamp in a reptile enclosure based on temperature readingfrom Xiaomi thermometer. Automation is controlled through Mi Home, but will look towards Home Assistant in the future.

    • I had that afew days ago, I held and pressed the button for 20seconds and it reset itself.

    • Bought two also and it stopped working correctly.

  • Hi Op, do you have any deal for the Mi motion sensor? Cheers

  • Perfect. Been waiting for these to go one sale (already have 2). Bought 4 more.

  • Awesome! Purchased 3, should go well with the xiaomi 5 in 1 deal last week.

  • I bought one of these the last time they were offered and it worked well BUT it has not stopped working. It's still being controlled, the indicator light goes on and off when controlled but the power doesn't go on or off.

I don't believe it is the same supplier but It's less than 12 months. Do you think they will send a new one? Is it worth postage etc?

    • Wow that's interesting. I've got 4 of these and haven't had any troubles yet. Good to know this is a possibility! I'll be more diligent with what they operate.

  • Thanks rep, grabbed a couple.

If anyone plans to go down the zigbee2mqtt you may need a few of these as they act as repeaters and the cheap zigbee usb adapters don't have very good signal compared to the gateway.

  • +2

If you register you get a better 10% coupon that brings them down to US$10.07 each (that stacks with the 30% discount).

    • Sorry about that, we just upgraded our webiste. We will solve it as soon as possible. Thanks for your feedback.

  • Any coupon deals for the Xiaomi Dafang Camera?

    • +1

This coupon also work on Dafang Camera

  • 67c discount?

  • Do you know if this works with a wemo link?

  • +1

    Does this work with Alexa?

    • +1

I've been using a xiaomi plug for a while with an echo plus. The echo can turn the plug off and on but it can't use functions like power draw without having a xiaomi gateway

      • Ok thanks

  • awesome. thanks.

    • Hope you have good time on dd4.com

  • Just confirming, is it AU plug on the power point side?

    • +1

It's China plug which very similar to Australian and works fine in Australian power points.

The only difference is a longer earth pin which doesn't affect plugging it in. The output from the Xiaomi Plug does however require a 3 pin plug, it has a locking safety mechanism that makes it tricky to use with an Australian 2 pin plug (it can work but requires forcing the lock/poking something else in while plugging 2 pin plug in). Australian 3 pin plugs are fine.

      • Thank you :)

  • +1

FYI for those interested the socket has an internal cover over the pin inputs that can only be pushed away by the earth pin on a plug, so if you are using plugs with 2 pins only you need to poke something in the earth input to move the pin cover out of the way.

Also the plug is technically upside down in an Australian socket so can hit the actual switches on the power point and won't seat nicely in the socket.

  • Grabbed a few more, cheers!

  • sign up, confirmed email, now the site says email doesn't exist. Can't log in anymore

    • Hi, sorry for your trouble, please send private message to me tell me your email, our technology will check it.

      • It's fixed now thanks.

  • What advantage does having alexa or any of those home hubs over the mi gateway? Just has voice cmd?

  • if there is no power (ie blackout) will this memorise the wifi and settings
