Also another $40 when you use the code: HPDOWN FOR THE NEXT 4 HOURS ONLY!!!! Facebook promo, so $80 off….. ends up $299 after cashback and instant discount

    • -2

When you say "Another" $40, does it bring it down to $259?
      Like $339 - $40(paypal) -$40(Another?) = $259

      • No it's listed on COTD for $379. Pay with Paypal down to $339 and entering the code down to $299.

      • +1

ends up $299 after cashback and instant discount

He means it goes down to $299, after all the cashbacks and discounts.

  • urbanski415 beat me to the punch.

Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed, that’s right, HOME PREMIUM!

    lol

    • Haha, I'm going to take that off ;)

    • what's the RRP of windows 7 home premium?

      • If you buy OEM it will cost you something over $100.
That's assuming that you are a system builder and the shop is willing to sell it to you.

        • Doesn't MSY sell OEM s/w, eg, if you buy, eg, a memory stick or the like? (Did once, as I recall…)

    • OK, but does it have anything like ASUS's "instant-on" (Linux-based) alternative OS, with a 2nd Power Switch to select it with ease? ;-)

Oh, and what's HP's Hardware quality like in this form-factor? What kind of warranty…? etc.

  • +1

NO~I just bought one from OrangeIT without the 3G but I really really want 3G…
So, what about this, who ever want one without 3G can buy this and swap with me, I'll pay difference maybe a bit more…

BargainHunter69, Why do you do this to me !!!

    • Sorry, I cannot see into the future :P I bought the orange IT one too.

  • +5

Switching this coupon code OFF at 3.30PM AEDST.

After that will be $339 after PayPal cashback.

    • Oops, you forgot to state the two year warranty doesn't include the battery!
Unless the two year warranty does include the battery?

      • Notebook warranties never cover batteries; they're considered as consumables, UNLESS it is faulty out of the box.

    • +3

Thanks QQQ, appreciate the heads up. Wish more reps could be like you.

    • QQQ what do we do about no bluetooth??

  • +1

At $299 + $10 shipping - $50 more than orangeIT for windows 7 home premium and a 3G card. Good deal if your after those 2 extras.

    • Just the 3G card itself cost more that $50 to buy, even on eBay. And you will have to get the SIM module, and somehow manage to get them fitted in. I think for $50 extra it worth it.

  • +3

Save your money, get it from orangeIT and get a USB 3G modem which you can use on whatever you like for less than this, and at least be likely you'll actually receive it unlike from CotD.

    • +1

True, I actually got USB 3G modem, more one…
But it's another thing you have to carry with, and the feeling of "Can do" without USB modem is just great, althought function the same.
I don't have problem with CoTD itself, but most of my purchases from it are impulsive and UNnecessary.

    • +2

If it's only for casual use and you have a half-decent smartphone, just use Bluetooth to tether to the phone. If you want simplicity, the last thing you need is 2 different internet data plans.

      • -1

you don't need bluetooth to tether mate -___-

tethering allows you to create a small hotspot where on your netbook you see your phone as an available wifi connection and just connect to it, you can also put in basic WEP encryption password but I doubt anyone else around you will wanna steal your internetz for a few minutes…

but if you already have a separate 3g data sim (like exetel for e.g), you can use this netbook and tether to every other devices instead (to your phone, tablet, other laptop etc)

  • Nice to see decent resolution displays on these netbooks now…

    • +1

Only this one. All the others are expensive (and 11.6"+)

      • My Samsung NF310 has a 10.1" 1366x768px display….so this isn't the only one….

    • After using it with 1366X768 on a 10" to be honest it's a bit uncomfy for reading words and text, at least in Win 7. Have to zoom for 125% desktop setting.
Good for 720p video viewing, but it can't cope, So it is not really that spectacular.
I wish it can be 11.6" with 1366X768

      • Just increase the font-size / font DPI. Easily solved.

      • use CoreAVC codec

    • First netbook that I've seen with a decent resolution. I read here in this thread about the Samsung, but hadn't seen any. My Samsung Galaxy S in good at 480x800 with 4" display, imagine 2.5x that on a 10" display.

I'm also waiting until 1920x1080 is standard across the larger screen units. So many devices have 1366x768 limitation which larger screens.

I've ordered one of these netbooks as it is a great improvement on 1024x600, but gigabit LAN is also where it should be and it is!

  • Hi there. Just wondering if the built in 3G supports Telstra NextG (850MHz)?

  • +1

    Isn't this the same netbook?
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110649…
    Price: AU $259.00

Hardly seems worth paying $40 for an Integrated 3G SIM slot. :-\

    • +1

If you frequently use a 3G broadband modem, then it would be worth paying extra for the extra convenience of not having to stow away a USB modem everytime you pack the laptop into a bag, not to mention you also free up a USB port.

    • COTD's is Windows 7, your ebay example Vista.

      • It also has a difference in LAN port. COTD's unit states "Gigabit Ethernet LAN".

        • +1

          does 'gigabit' make a difference?

    • Don't forget the two year warranty. (And COTD is a better merchant, imho)

    • OrangeIT (on eBay) has only 61 prior sales… not much eBay history… is it really Orange IT?

By contrast: OrangeIT3G has heaps more, and the same $259 HP offer… both with VISTA [& 1 year warranty?]

      I haven't checked 'em out…

If all is as it seems, then I'd buy one there (eBay).

ANYBODY try one, for quality, yet???

  • If I buy now, when can I expect it to be delivered (Adelaide)??? Im flying out on 03/03 and can receive 10% GST :)
    Thanks

    • +1

Well for example my printer off them took month, so dont hold your breathe…

      • Thanks Stewy

  • Hi QQQ. I need your help please. My Dad ordered one of these using my account (paid for it though with his CC), but did not put in the discount code. Any chance of cancelling the order? If so I will re-order one with the discount code. Sorry for any inconvenience. Sharon

    3G - how yesterday. It's all 4G now. (snore)(grin)

    • 160 GB hard disk - how day-before-yesterday.

HP's 160 GB drive seems to spin FAST - 7200 RPM (good,
but could drain the battery faster, right?)

It's all 250 GB now (in netbooks, at least).

Orange IT (via eBay) have a desktop with 500 GB
      $299 incl Free shipping.

      y'all might like to try a desktop for a change… :-)

      • 7200rpm vs 5400rpm dude.

    • Orange IT's version netbook seems to come with the dreaded

      . MS Vista

(And, of course, -NO- 3G adapter)

I saw this on the web can be picked up for $259…Even with delivery I don't see this as a bargain…

    • Can you show us where?

        • +1

It has MS VISTA, folks… !!!

      • +1

I am assuming he/she is referring to Orange IT

He/she is not understanding the value of having Windows 7 Home Premium installed and having a built-in 3G modem…

        • Consider if you have iPhone/Android you can use tethering. So 3G modem is not really needed. and if you already have Win7 that you are licensed to install, you don't need it. I don't see much benefit of this netbook using win7 rather than Vista

  • Very good priced netbook

  • nice deal

  • Error An error occured when we tried to process your payment.

    Transaction cannot complete. (10417)
The transaction cannot complete successfully. Instruct the customer to use an alternative payment method.

  • So it's effectively $40 (at best) for 3G.
Seems like a reasonable price, IMO.

and also W7 Home Premium not Vista

****Coupon code - ‘HPDOWN’ may work in the first 4hours to get an additional $40 off****
No longer works. Damn missed out. At least I get to save some money. :P

  • +3

Subscribers to COTD's mailing list like myself have the right to be cheesed off that the coupon code is not even mentioned in their email about the deal. As a result, they are worse off by $40. Take note COTD, this is no way to treat your regular customers.

    • Perhaps you need to friend them on facebook and twitter, then you'll see all the offers.

I found this thread when I did a search on the COTD item today, so I found the extra discount code.

But I do agree, ordinary and normal COTD only subscribers should not be dis-advantaged.

    • +1

You aren't really an early bird if you're only checking ozbargain/facebook/twitter at 9pm, when a coupon expires at 3:30pm.

  • Missed out on the further $40 discount. I'm considering whether it's still a good deal at $348.95 (including postage & after Paypal cashback), any suggestions?

  • You can get an extra $43 back from Microsoft if you reject the Microsoft Licence agreement, and install Linux.

    • LOL really?

      • yeah it is hard to say if RedHab is joking or serious with that one…

        • Serious - you'll stay on the phone to MS Australia for a while, but they'll refund you eventually, but they don't make it easy.

According to Microsoft's End User License Agreement, the end user can return Windows for a refund by refusing the terms of the license: "By using the software, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the software. Instead, contact the manufacturer or installer to determine their return policy for a refund or credit."

        • wow that is awesome

he end user can return Windows for a refund by refusing the terms of the license:

          important part

      • Really. It's called the 'Windows Tax' and you can get refunded (but it isn't easy)

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_refund

  • Sold Out now.

  • Hmmm I don't think I trust Paypal with honouring this. They once stole $80 off me and wanted me to send them a bank statement to prove that I hadn't received the money.

    Scumbags.

  • Get $40 cashback* when you pay with PayPal! Simply proceed through checkout using PayPal and you'll receive a sweet $40 credit to your account before the 1st March 2011 - no redemption/claim process required!

who's betting we wont get the refund by 1st mar

    • Has anyone got their cashback yet?

  • How long does it take for delivery?

    • Don't tell me it's going to take a month!

      • Do you get your order processed? Mine still in Payment received. Nothing is happening. How about you guys? I have sent them an email, it seems like auto generate email.
        Hi there,

        Thank you for your email.

Very sorry about that! There was a small delay at our distribution centre…

Not to worry, the problem has since been resolved and your order will be processed shortly.

The moment you order is dispatched, you will receive email confirmation.

I apologise for the inconvenience and for the delay - feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

  • Anybody receive their HP5102 3G from catchoftheday? Take ages to dispatch.

    • I know! Mines still saying "Payment received." Contacted them on Thursday afternoon (24/02/11) and they responded the next day saying there was a "small delay at the distribution centre…" and for me "Not to worry, the problem has since been resolved and your order will be processed shortly".

Well it's monday afternoon 28/02/11 and it's still showing "payment received".

Processed shortly my arse! I wish they would just hurry up. lol.

      • lol…that's their standard reply. I reckon they don't even have it in stock…probably still waiting for delivery from their supplier.

        • Too bad… I bought a galaxy tab on 22 Feb 2011 and is delivered today. Even faster than the HP5102…

  • +1

    mine's still saying "Payment received"

    fghjkl;

  • Does anyone know the size of the SIM slot for this HP 5102 3G?

I want to order a SIM for this laptop but not sure if it uses the normal SIM or the micro SIM (like in the Iphone 4) I'm assuming it should be the normal one but want to make sure 1st
(planning to get the $1 SIM from TPG :)

web specs says: HP Mobile Broadband (Integrated WWAN Module/3G Sim Card Slot)
    from http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/past_product.php?past_produc…

also looked here and couldnt find/decipher info:
    http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13514_ca/13514…

  • Anybody know that are there any available mini PCI-E slot for Broadcom BCM970015 mini PCI-E Crystal HD Decoder 1080i, as it comes with 3G support in HP5102 from catch of the day? Any advice?
