  • Do they sell asus ones their?

    • +1

No they do not. This is the only router I found. Their stock always change so you never know.

      • thx

  • A note on the back of packaging suggests it's 4th port on the back can be used for WAN. I believe in that case it would work just like plain simple router and do not need to return it. Will do some more research tomorrow.

    • +1

This is a modem + router. It can be used with either FTTN (corrected by user below) or FTTP

      • +3

This will not work on FTTN without another modem, the modem contained within the VIPER is not a VDSL capable modem. I had one and it does not sync.

    • You can use it with fibre. I’ve got one and use it with fibre. You reconfigure port 4 to take it. Works really well. I have another I use at my home with ADSL. I liked it so much I bought two of them.

  • Thanks @scrimshaw. After posting realised on the back line saying "NBN/UFB ready - configure LAN port 4 as a wan port with Vlan tagging.

    • TLDR:
      Like
      Fast transfer rates.
      Mac Pro-esque body.
      GUI good for newbies.
      Don't Like
      Basic user interface.
      Interface is overly simplified.
      Expensive.

  • Owned one and using for about 18 months on ADSL 2. It has its issues with > 12 devices connected across 2.4 and 5g (needs the wifi reset every week). It hates cross device compatibility between Apple and Android devices - dhcp can be a little flakey.

If you are happy to reboot every so often and happy with the middling range (is 'ok' for 3br house) get it (for the price above its satisfactory).

  • I had one that kept needing reboots too due to freezing, returned it for direct replacement (July 2016) and now can't remember the last time I rebooted it. Even retired the repeater as no longer needed. It's not a $300 spec router but well worth the money.
