  • Very confused spec didn't say support DTS HD.

Did you see it display DTS HD when you play Blu-ray?

    • Sorry I never played Blu-ray

    • +2

Going by the owners manual for the receiver(HTR-2071) it does not support Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio.

      Audio Format
      • Dolby Digital Plus
      • Dolby Digital
      • DTS
      • DSD 2-ch to 6-ch
      • PCM 2-ch to 8-ch (Max. 192 kHz/24-bit)

      Page 70 of owners manual
      https://au.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/9/890839/w…

It does however support 8ch PCM, most Blu-ray players etc should be able to decode Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio into multi-channel PCM and send this via HDMI to the receiver, there should should be no loss in quality using the player to do the decoding rather than the receiver.

      • Yeah manual, spec all said no DTS HD master but some owners from forum said yes, very confuse.

    • +1

You got a definitive answer to this in the previous thread.

"Scab" has the previous model, which like this one supports DTS HD. Refer his post THREE DAYS AGO!

      • Yeah … just want to confirm with another owner :)

But @dellalu never play blu-ray XD

      • It may be playing back in DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, which is a lossy format of higher quality than standard lossy DTS.
Many receivers will display DTS-HD High Resolution Audio as DTS-HD, if the display is not showing DTS HD Master Audio it may be playing back in DTS-HD High Resolution Audio.

        • -1

It supports DTS HD Master and no doubt the lesser DTS formats which are used on older BluRay discs.

        • -1

Unless someone confirms the display showing Master Audio, it is not clear that it does.

  • Looks like a lot of equipment for the price

I just bought a Samsung HW-N950 for $1369 that just came out this month and packaging all those speakers up into one bar is what they do these days

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/397582

You can also get the ysp1600 with a free Xbox One S for ~$900 delivered seems pretty good deal too

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Yamaha-YSP1600X-5-1Ch-Soundb…

    • im looking to get the HW-N850 next month as my sound blaster roar SB20a died last night. RIP.

      Hows the N950?

      • +1

I just bought it today online - the deal I linked has the N850 too for $1099

I've been promised mine the end of this week or early next week at the earliest so will let you know!

There's a few people on the relevant deal who have received it already so do post on there if you're interested

  • will they just cancel orders because of no stock?

  • This is good for PC gamers too. When you want to play with headphones, plug it into the receiver and Yamaha's Silent Cinema will emulate the 5.1 to your headphones so you don't lose track of your enemies.

  • Doesn't appear to be any stock in QLD saying $40 delivery for me. Sad face.

      eBay Plus ?

      • Have eBay Plus not sure how that works from the sellers' side maybe GG has opted out or something.

        • Not sure, seem no free postage with TGG.

        • @superforever:

Yeah this eBay Plus thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The other day I bought a couple of $20 WW GCs with my eBay Plus account from a seller with just 100 odd feedback and realised that the seller has $15 postage for each GC (which btw were just emailed to me so obviously no actual postage costs) for non-Plus members. Now I guess eBay pays the $30 in postage (2 x $15) so the seller gets $70 for $40 worth of GCs? I see the same seller has listed more of them now. Have no idea what is going on. I don't think eBay does either.

looks like two stores in QLD have stock but nowhere near Brisbane, one is at Sunshine Coast. On TGY website they have stock everywhere. Sad face.

      • Ah ok I tried a few Brizzie postcodes but all out of stock. Kinda weird.

  • Thinking about getting this vs Logitech Z906 for the living room, thoughts on the comparison?

    • +1

For freedom you cant beat a sperate amp like this deal. The Z906 are highly regarded for what they are but at the end of the day still better suited to a wicked pc setup where space is an issue and a heavy amplifier isn't required.
If I went and got this deal I'd just add an active amp, 1 for more bass and 2 to take some stress off the amp it self.

      • +1

Thanks for the great feedback! +1

        • No problem 👍

    • I've got both and for movie experience i would say go for the Yamaha, what the z906 is good for is if you are limited on space and/or want a basic setup. Z906 has a seemelss interface with very basic remote which i really like for simplicity.
Whereas the Yamaha is more of a home theatre with a lot of inputs and features…
Needless to say the only way to utilise the z906 to the fullest is with a PC/soundcard which has 5.1 output as other digital inputs are compressed, whereas Yamaha can do a variety of inputs as well HDMI for full bandwidth audio.
The bass on the Logitech is too accentuated (good or bad is upto the user).

Bottom-line is they are both good units, I'd pick Yamaha for living room/home theatre setup and Logitech for bedroom (mainly due to smaller foot print both for speakers and the control unit since it has the amp builtin to the sub)

  • are they connected by wires?
I dont have wire pre-installed in the wall, must be ugly if you just let all the wires out there…

    • Yes the speakers are connected by wires to the receiver.

  • +1

Hmmm, wonder if stores will get more stock in or I should just pay for postage?

    • Same here $40 delivery is the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger. Must. Resist.

  • This should handle 4K 'HDR' mode from ATV4k and Xbox One X?

    • yes it supports 4K HDR

  • +1

Got this as my first AVR/sound system a few months back for ~$400. Very happy with it, will need a dedicated room before I need something better. For $337 it's a steal.

  • How would these compare to my old z5500?

  • +1

Damn. Click and collect on ebay says no stores in WA have stock, but GG website says otherwise.

  • Anyone having issue purchasing this at the moment? eBay keeps erroring out. Tried with a couple of accounts and cards.

    • Yep - having the same issue.

    • I changed store and that seemed to work (used Casula instead of Marsden Park).

  • If anyone that has purchased this system wants to confirm whether or not it supports DTS HD Master Audio the on screen display may give more information.
See page 37 of the owners manual to show signal info from the option menu.
    https://au.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/9/890839/w…

    • Scab! Where are you when required! :(

      Purchased the previous model.

      • Still not 100% whether it is just DTS or DTS HD Master?

        • DTS HD Master!

        • I don't believe any owner has confirmed DTS HD Master Audio

Users on other forums are indicating that it does not support Master Audio.
          https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/…
          Same as previous HTR-2067
          https://www.reddit.com/r/hometheater/comments/6suymt/problem…

        • @Blackrose:

That is why in order to 100% sure we will need a photo if the receiver will display DTS HD master on the panel when playing blu-ray disc.

My Panasonic home theatre can play blu-ray DTS HD Master I think it downsample to DTS but it cannot bitstream DTS HD Master from my HTPC. I have to change ffdshows to uncheck DTS HD master.

        • Most home theatre systems can accept multi-channel PCM, if your HTPC can decode DTS Master to PCM you can still get the lossless audio from DTS master audio.
