How difficult and/or expensive is it to install these into vehicles with factory fitted stereo systems (like the Mazda 3)?

    • +1

You'll want a Fascia kit, wiring harness, steering wheel harness, maybe an antenna harness.
      Source: I have a Mazda 3

    • +4

Depended on the year, something like this fascia would work.
      https://frankiesautoelectrics.com.au/stinger-mt95-7504-fasci…
Then you can use this tool to lookup what harnesses you need. > https://aerpro.com/selector
Generally you will need a JVC to ISO adapter and a Mazda specific one.

      EDIT: Fixed some spelling

      • +1

Bonus of this JVC is that it may not need adapters for steering wheel control: http://au.jvc.com/car/av_receivers/pdf/Direct_OEM_Steering_R…

        • +1

This can actually make a big difference, making the installation a lot easier and cheaper as you won't need to install something like the axxess swc1.

However, you may still find that you still need to buy another one of the vehicle to ISO adapters, as well as one ISO to JVC adapter, as there are two pins that do the steering wheel controls and the vehicle to ISO adapters frequently miss these pins. The adapter will have pins for audio/speakers & power, but probably not steering wheel controls, and these wires will be missing/empty. You can cut directly into the wires on the vehicle side, but you may not want to do that, and you can do it cleanly without cutting if you buy the extra vehicle side adapter.

For my Subaru Forester, I bought a second vehicle/Subaru to ISO adapter, which I then butchered with some cutters (carefully) so that I could extract some extra pins I needed, and they just clicked into the empty spots in the first vehicle to ISO adapter in the spots where the steering wheel controls come through. Then I could tap into those wires on the adapter side for the axxess swc1, which plugged into my Sony head unit using a 3.5mm headphone plug. In this case you might not need the axxess swc1, as the JVC head unit itself does the translation, but you still need to tap into the green and grey wires from the steering wheel controls and connect this to the supplied 3.5mm headphone plug that goes into the back of the head unit.

    • It will depend on the year, as a replacement of the stinger as you need to call on our store, it's better for you to look on the facia kits (aerpro) part and search that on our website. Here's for the Mazda 3 2009-2013 - https://aerpro.com/vehicles/mazda/mazda-3-axela-2009-2013-bl

    • Very simple to do, just plug and play once you have the right adaptor to fit factory loom. You'll need a flat head screwdriver, pop out the heater vents on top of head unit, then unscrew the 2x Philips screws on head unit and away u go

      • Lol not on a Mazda 3, with its VERY integrated head unit.

        • depends which one. 2014 up no chance. 2013 and below pretty easy

        • @steff: Still requires a new fascia, not as easy as described by bti_jet

        • @theguyrules: true. you need to get other parts for it. I was saying there's absolutely no chance for this to go into 2014 and up models.

        • +1

@steff: yeah for sure, with their weird entertainment unit that sticks up out of the dash.

Where was this deal 2 months ago?!

  • Is this a good deal? Interested to hear from anyone who has this unit

    • I bought this for $620 two months ago.
I like the unit. I would say this is a good price.
It's great to have both iOS CarPlay and Android Auto.
It has wireless screen mirroring that I have got to work with Android but I am yet to get it to work with iOS.
I like that this unit DVD slot is at the top. It was hard to find a unit with Carplay and Android Auto and a DVD/CD player. Kenwood equivalents [in terms of features] have a DVD slot behind the face and require the whole face to move. I thought that was a horrible idea as the movement mechanism won't last.
I prefer the touch screen to capacitive for cars. Capacitive would struggle with dirty screens or slightly wet hands or gloves or a few other reasons. For cars I think this has a better touch screen.
Depends what you want but I do this this is a good deal for all the features. Especially if you want the trio of iOS/Android/DVD functions. That gives all the GPS, smart apps and old school music!

      • Mate is there a dimming option. Wondering if this head unit is too bright. Got a 7" headunit stock with the Santa Fe that blinds me at night…

        • Hey mate. Yep there is

Has anyone have purchased it for their Toyota Corolla (2014) hatch? Perhaps the store rep can respond.

    • Are you looking for compatibility? It should fit fine. Check the aerpro website for all the parts needed.
I recently installed a sony headunit in my corolla hatch.
It can be diy fitted if you are up for it

  • How does someone use an android auto headunit with the toque app? does the phone need to be plugged in to the headunit to open the app? or only when it needs to be loaded onto the headunit or such?

    • +1

YOu will connect via BT to your ODB2 adapter, then miracast your phone to the headunit…

  • Just curious, this doesn't have sat navigation but can I somehow stream or upload navigation from my Android phone to the stereo with android auto?

    • It would appear it does. Can anyone confirm?

      Android Auto™

If you're an Android fan, you'll love how Android Auto integrates the Android platform into your driving experience in a non-distracting way. You'll have voice control access to Google Maps, weather, music, your phone, text messages, plus easy access to many of your favorite apps. Get more info at www.android.com/auto.

    • I've not actually used android auto myself but it should run google maps mirrored from your phone. I don't know if the unit benefits from having its own GPS though or if it will just use your phone.

      • Uses it own copy of Maps (or Waze if your 1337) but uses your phones GPS/Data.

    • You just need to use your Android Auto function and use Google Maps or the Air Mirroring function of this head unit.

      • +2

So will I have to use my phone to mirror it each time I want to start the navigation? Or can I control this from the google maps app on the headset directly?

        • With Android Auto, you can control this directly from the Google Maps app in the headset.
          It works really well.

    • Android Auto will certainly run Google Maps and other navigation apps if you have a recentish Android phone. It will use the GPS built in to the phone or the car antenna depending upon the particular equipment. This works well in my experience and Google Maps is rated far better than the iOS equivalent.

      • I have an android phone that currently lives in the car for running google maps. If I just leave it in there plugged into power, will the stereo connect automatically every morning when I start it up?

  • Will this work on a Honda Jazz 2008? If yes, where do I get the fascia and kits…?

    Thanks.

  • Looks like a good deal rep, thanks!

I have a Ford Fiesta XR4 so I know I will need this kit:

    https://frankiesautoelectrics.com.au/aerpro-fp9245bk-stereo-…

but can you let me know what else I would need iso wise etc to hook this up?

    Cheers!

  • Would this fit a Toyota rav4 2013 model?

  • +1

Has anyone have purchased it for their Toyota Corolla hatch 2012? Perhaps the store rep can respond.

    • 2012 was when ZRE-182R was first launched, replacing ZRE-152R, this unit will fit both.

  • Hi rep, I checked aerpro website but my vehicle is not listed - 2009 Mitsubishi Grandis VRX. Can I get necessary components to install this?

  • I'm keen to purchase the JVC KW-V930BW you have advertised.
I have a Dualis J10 Series 2 which is already Double DIN, do I need any additional wiring harness to allow it to be retrofitted with the steering wheel buttons working?

  • Probably going to grab this for my 2007 Volvo XC90. What are all the other things I need to purchase (harness, facia etc) so that I can buy it all in one go? I also wish to hardwire a front and rear dashcam and a rear reversing camera.

A resistive touch screen in 2018 seems ridiculous.

    • +1

Why? Resistive has a lot of advantages for car use.

      • I don't wear driving gloves and I'm not sure of any other advantages.

        • Better for environments where there is dust and dirt. Better for times when there may be moisture on the screen.
The dirt and dust performance is definitely useful for cars.

        • @g1: How dirty and dusty does the interior of your car get, to affect a capacitive touchscreen?

  • Mmmmmm… I'm very very tempted, I have an old corolla 2003 sportivo…will it fit ???? Pretty please o_O
and can anyone recommend an installer in Melbourne:)

  • very interested.
what else would i need besides this unit, for a honda civic hatchback 2013?

  • Hi Rep,

Since you are giving out great advice, could I have Adaptor list to fit this to a 2009 Mitsubishi ZH outlander (standard not rockford.). I require to keep steering wheel controls.

  • +4

WOW Great price but shame it has resistive screen. OP do you have a deal for a capacitive model?

  • Hi Frankie, I have got a Toyota Estima 2004 model from Japan. Any chance this unit will work on the car?

  • Keep in mind OzB'ers, this is last year's model, replaced by the 940.

    • Looks like the 940 supports Wireless Android Auto. Anyone have experience with it?

      • Yep - your phone battery drains whilst you drive.

        Avoid the wireless solutions.

    • Does the 930 on special today do wireless CarPlay from Apple?

  • Would this work for 2016 Honda CRV? (+Reverse & Side camera) I was finding something that could do Android Auto

    • You can just input the head unit here: https://aerpro.com/vehicles/honda/honda-crv-2012-rm

    • +1

I've been looking into this too. Some head units don't allow you to switch between viewing angles on the rear camera (so you are stuck on the default one), and I've yet to see a successful side camera setup where camera turns on with left indicator.
It's a shame Honda never bothered to update the factory units with Carplay/AA

  • good price but i still prefer the straight android double din systems, simple android and you can install the app too.

  • Hi Rep, Can you please advise what parts would be required to install this in a 2009 prius.

    I was thinking this kit?
    https://frankiesautoelectrics.com.au/aerpro-fp9016k-stereo-i…

    Cheers

  • Looking to get this for a SUBARU MY05 Imprezza WRX and just trying to work out what harness I need and any extras
