So I came across this at Big W today, was $549 now down $449.

I can’t find any info on the web about it but spec wise looks like a similar spec to Kogans 35”. Anyone have any knowledge on these monitors? I was about to pull the trigger but hopefully could get some feedback before I do.

This was at Big W Wetherill Park NSW but online shows most store have them in stock.

  • price in title plz!!!!

    • Sorry, updated.

      • if u said "similar spec to Kogan" i think they used Samsung panel. I still referring LG panel > Samsung panel.

        • I’m only assuming similar spec, but could be wrong. I update the description with all the infor I could see on the box.

  • I would say it's a generic Chinese monitor, and likely the same as the kogan one…which is currently cheaper.

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-35-curved-219-ultrawide-7…

Honestly I wouldn't go for this myself (I do have a bias against ultrawides granted) as I would prefer less "fancy" but better quality.

    • I’m looking for an ultrawide for a simulator setup. Currently using a 27” 1080p, the resolution is fine, I’m happy with 1080, it will only be used a few nights a week. I’m not a die-hard gamer!

      • But this is 35".

        • Yes it is, I would like a bigger monitor

      • The LG 34" IPS is available at that price point.

        • Yes although it’s flat and I was looking at a curved style but yet to decide if it will benefit me having a curved screen.

    • I see the Kogan is cheaper, though after delivery, adding a wall bracket, the cost adds up. Only real benefit to the Kogan is the option of an extended warranty.

    • generic Chinese monitor

      What do you mean?

      • +2

A rebranded monitor with mostly unknown parts from an unknown factory with an unknown level of QA.

Is it good? Is it bad? No one knows! Spin the wheel and see where it lands =p

  • Looks similar to the Kogan unit posted earlier in the year, smaller by an inch.

People don't have an extra few hundred to spend on a monitor.

      • -6

If you don't have a couple hundred to spend, why would you buy an ultrawide curved monitor?

    • +5

Not really a valid neg. It's like saying why do people buy cheap phone when they can pay 1000s for Samsung and iphones

If you don't have a couple hundred to spend, why would you buy an ultrawide curved monitor?

        • +4

Again it's like saying if you can't afford a Lamborghini, why buy a car

        • -3

@Jimmy007: Nope, buy an el cheapo monitor

    • +1

On what experience do you base your opinion that they are shitty?

    • I going to guess you have zero experience or evidence to back up your claims that this is a shit monitor.

  • +5

I didnt post this to start a war, sorry guys if this has been covered before.

I know I can go out and spend 7-800 on a better monitor, though it’s not what I wanted to fork out. I can use my 27” just fine, it would be nice to get a wider view when I’m racing my sim. Was merely curious about the brand if anyone has seen them around before and if it is an ok deal.

No need to apologise, you didn't do anything wrong. The problem with such brands is often that the hardware changes too often. Meaning they use for one batch one kind of display and for the next batch another. Very hard to really be sure what you are getting.

      • Yeah I understand. I was looking at a similarly priced LG 34 75hz ultrawide but is a flat panel. I though for the same price, curved, 35” it can’t be that bad.

But hard to tell I guess without trying it.

Sounds like a made up story given the low numbers of 21:9 panels out there. Even lower numbers of panel with the same curve.

    • Haha you're OK. Lively discussion is good! I actually like it when people poke holes in my posts, gives me a new point of view. Your comment about using an ultrawide for a simulator is a good one for example!

      • The ultrawide does look good for sim use, not as good as triples but widens it a bit.

Lol don't apologise my man, thanks for the tip. I'm honestly tempted, though I really don't have another wall for this.

  • Big W do monitors? Is that a first?

You can find LG ultrawides at that price but not curved.

So, this seems a good price. No idea about quality though. Polaroid isn’t exactly a powerhouse name when it comes to monitors…

    • +1

Polaroid isn't a powerhouse name in anything any more.

In fact; these days it is just a name slapped on home brand products for brand recognition.

      • “Shake it like a fujifilm picture”
I wonder if it will catch on

  • I have the 34” LG 34UM69G and I think it’s great. Obviously would have loved to have the 34 curved 34UC950GK but it’s not out yet and would cost some $1500-2000 but here’s dreaming. I’ve never seen these monitors out of the box but I can say the LG is good.
In my experiences working at a computer retailer I have more confidence buying a well known respected brand when it comes to monitors. Failures to do with dead pixels, bright pixels, backlight bleed, tearing (even for monitors with adaptive sync) run rampant. LG’s QC is generally very good and they have the best ips panel tech on the market atm.
If I were you I would save yourself the potential headache and go with the LG. But I’m not you, so do as you will…

  • Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! The 34um69 is the other model I was looking at, but yes it’s flat. Hence why the interest in this model.

Looking at the return policy, there is a 10 day return Return if not happy so can hurt to try! If I do, I’ll make an unbox video and put it to test.

    • Image quality I expect will be better on the LG, colour reproduction and gamut etc

Long time lurker, first time poster…

If I had my time again, I'd go for a curved monitor. I bought a Phillips BDM3470 a little while back; it's a fantastic monitor, especially for FPS games where my focus is mainly in the middle of the screen, but for the Unity work I'm doing for uni at the moment it's not ideal. I find myself moving side-to-side in my chair to be able to see the left and right edge properly, which gets really annoying after a while.

I walked past the 35" Polaroid in Big W a couple of hours ago and was sorely tempted, even though this would be a drop in resolution - would not have gone down well with the financial controller though! I wonder if she'd notice if I replaced the 21" BenQ with this… :D

    • Haha! My excuse is Father’s Day!!

  • I bought this from Big W and it looked awesome. I am a power user and used it for some gaming aswell. Unfortunately mine died this morning, after only a few days of light usage. It just turned off, won't come back on.

I called about a replacement and that is all good, if the next one dies it'll be a cash refund towards a better brand.

    • Just picked one up today, wanted to see how it goes. If not happy, easy to return and refund.

  • Bought one, opened, looked ok, plugged in, not bad, 5 mins later, screen blank then back on with lines and flashing pixels.. was very weird. DP and hdmi same issue. Plugged my old monitor in, working ok.

    Just returned it.

Lesson learnt, buy cheap - get cheap. Will put money towards an LG or maybe triples.

That's a shame, looked like a decent option, but obviously some major quality issues. At least returns are nice and easy! Thanks for the update.

      • On its own, was a nice monitor, shame I got a lemon.

  • Picked one of these up 2 days ago. Store still had plenty of stock. Pretty happy with it going to go back and purchase a second to run dual setup. If anyone wants any photos, videos or questions answered let me know. Been using screen for several hours a day since I got it half/half gaming and browsing and have had no dramas, no dead pixels was using a 50" 4k TV prior to this.

    • Glad it worked out for you! I was hoping it would for me but “thems the brakes” as they say!
