Dewalt DCD796T1-XE 18V 6.0ah Li-Ion Brushless Cordless Hammer Drill Kit $186 Delivered @ Sydney Tools

200

A repeat of this one which has popped up a few times with great feedback https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/344400#comment

Pretty amazing value at trade quality. Bunnings have the drill skin only for $179 (https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-xr-brushless-compact-…), battery for $149 (https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-6-0ah-54v-xr-flexvolt…) and charger for $124 (https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-xr-multi-voltage-battery-…) if I am looking at the right thing.

Just in time to order for Father's Day, but won't arrive in time.

Special from Bunnings would pair well too https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395157

    trade quality

Is this really needed for diy? Ozito and ryobi should be able to do the odd diy jobs.

    • I’m tossing up between this & the Ryobi + $299 kit at bunnings at the moment. My current Ryobi is just about done. Lasting roughly 6 years. I’ll be using it for brick, concrete, hardwood while renovating my house. I was about to pull the trigger on the Ryobi. But now I’m thinking this is better.

I bought two of these last time (picked up a brushless impact driver too). They're just amazing for anything that I've had to do with them around the house. A small part of me wishes that I had Ryobi One+ gear though, because they have so much other (affordable) gear that I can use with the batteries and charger. The current Ryobi deal is no good to me since I've already got this DeWalt, but I'll most likely pick up Ryobi One+ next time their's a deal on something other than a drill.

Part of the benefit of paying for “trade quality” is getting a battery that has well matched cells inside, which should mean a longer lasting battery.

Batteries in cheap cordless kits can be very hit and miss for quality.

Some buyers won’t mind this, and just rely on the fallback of a long warranty on a lesser tool for peace of mind, whereas others would rather “buy once, buy right” and not risk the annoyance of having to take back a faulty item.

      • Good point. My Ryobi failed on the batteries. One pretty quickly when I stated using it in concrete. Before that I had trade aeg which I never had that issue with.
If I get the Dewalt I’d probably be better off buying two. So I have two batteries and I guess a spare/ free skin & charger.

        • +1

Yep. I bought two of these Dewalts sets on the last deal, then sold off the spare skin and charger on ebay.

        • @t3chshopper:
Did you buy it through these guys? A little concerned after the post about mixed reviews. Don’t really want to be mucked around. Do you remember if delivery was quick?
Handy that with the Ryobi + bunnings is just around the corner.

        • @stickymoo: Yep. I bought both through Sydney Tools. I didn't have any dramas, and no one on the last post seemed to have complaints with Sydney Tools. From that Whirlpool post, it seems that YMMV.

      • Both ozito and ryobi are sold by bunnings. One could get 2 or 3 batteries of these brands for the same price of 1 or 2 trade quality batteries.

We’ve ryobi and Milwaukee. The Milwaukee is better built and more powerful. It makes any job easy. However, the ryobi is the go to kit for diy. Light and packed with just enough juice to last from morning to lunch or lunch to dinner.

Ozito is plain dangerous. I have an older ozito drill. After a couple of small and easy jobs it started to have wobbling drill bits. I stopped using it as it looked like the drill bit may snap. I have no desire for a snapped high speed drill bit to go flying.
Cheap drill plus hospital visit is more expensive than a well priced quality tool like this dewalt.

      • it started to have wobbling drill bits

Did you check or maintain the chuck according to the manufacturer’s recommendation?

        • +1

Maintain a chuck after less than 10 holes made in fairly thin wood? I would rather not have landfill quality tools.

        • @g1:

So you didn’t follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for maintenance. Did you at least take the item back to bunnings for a warranty claim?

    • +1

by the time you get a brushless ozito, 4ah battery when on special and charger it’s almost the same price but you get dewalt and 6ah battery …..

    I have this drill.
    Its awsome.
Seems like everyone is selling them for $189 these days.

    Cant go wrong though.

    • I can only find a couple of others stores online selling them for $199.

    • blackwoods xpress also has it for $186. It also looks like the stores that have it for $199 are happy to price match too. I have no purchase history with any. So I don’t know which one has better customer service/ after sale service/ delivery times.

Mixed reports on Sydney Tools - seems like a few people have problems with them https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2289266&…

    • Cheap for a reason!?

  • Good find OP.

FYI Mitre 10 should price match this, for those who don't want to pay/wait for shipping. I got the same pack from them a couple of weeks ago, price matched from Blackwoods Tools.

  • How about warranty? Says 3 years covered by DeWalt. Does it mean I would have to ship it somewhere at my cost?
And did anyone try Bunnings for a price match?

    • +1

just called Bunnings =) would not combine 3 products to price match but said they had this kit on promo that's ended.

  • Great tools
The price of Bunnings can not be found online.

Rang one Meter 10, wait 5 mins, no stock.
Just pick up one from Sydney Tools Alexandra. Pay $185 on the spot.

  • Customer reviews are not that great for this unit. https://www.totaltools.com.au/109071-dewalt-18v-13mm-b-less-…

    • Online reviews are pretty good overall. Enough bad ones true. Find the comparison of all cordless drills that it is in. It wins against quality

My advice is don’t change the settings while the drill is running

I’ve got one of these and during a house renovation over the last years it’s been worked quite hard and treated poorly but it does the job every time. Just drilled into a lot of bricks last weekend. I have a corded Bosch hammer drill in the cupboard that I didn’t bother getting out. Also got a Ryobi cheap drill that died on the second screw it ever did and swapped it at Bunnings no questions but never did an online review about. Been flawless since and is my standard drill for most jobs that I don’t need the Dewalt for

Maybe the overall Dewalt quality isn’t great. Don’t know. My battery doesn’t click in perfectly feels loose. But the drill does work incredibly well

bought yesterday from ST, charge battery overnight.
After 3 hrs use this morning. Drill 12 holes in concrete, 20holes in timber and put 40 screws. It is very good.

Battery connector is losing. Does not affect usage. Also Very hard to Turn the dail to Hammer symbol when use hammer drill.

        • Thanks for posting your experience with the unit.

  • Local Bunnings have a Bosch Blue two piece set for $188. I don't know the stock numbers. Maybe check your Bunnings if looking for drill driver as well as impact drill.

  • This drill is a beast and you just cant really compare it to the lower quality stuff, I have the Rattle gun as well with 950nm of torque :)

  • Total Tools have it cheaper @ $179 free shipping

    https://www.totaltools.com.au/109071-dewalt-18v-13mm-b-less-…

    • Skin only. No battery or charger. $186 delivered is a bargain

Bunnings standard deal of two batteries (albeit half capacity) and a case for $64 extra..

    • Different model. Bunnings unit is DCD778. This one is the DCD796.

Found it much better to go via Blackwood express same unit cost but able to sign up under the promotions to get 20aud off the order and threw together some ppe gear to make the total balance over the threshold.

I bought one last year under the existing deal for newsletter sign up for them, but they have now limited the use or promo to not include power tools. Still great value and excellent service I do say so myself.

Link for those interested in 20aud of extra stuff for free if they can be bothered signing up.
