  • Can I use these in MacBook Pro 2013?

    • +2

No, Macbook Pro 2013 (and most Macbook Air and Pro) requires a special SSD.

    • +4

Apple goes to extreme effort to prevent any repairs and upgrades.

      • +6

You can upgrade SSD when you buy the laptop

Only costs around $9000 for 1tb

        Bargain

        • +8

Do they even make a profit on that? Good guy Apple, selling below cost as usual.

  • Bought the 1TB from Futu last week with the 20% off code for $276 free postage.

    • Bought 1TB from Shopping express clearance for $265.50 delivered (EBay Plus).

  • I guess being Samsung it is worth it to pay an extra $20 or so compared to crucial. Thanks OP

    • I too just came to the same conclusion

Yep max terabytes written is something like triple comparing Crucial MX500 to the Samsung 860 EVO's (1200TBW vs 400TBW) so the Samsung should last longer compared to the Crucial and Micron's under same scenario.

Tom's Hardware or Anandtech I can't remember who now did a torture stress test on endurance rating of SSD's with a few popular at the time drives a few years ago and the Samsung made it to 2 petabytes (2000TB) or some wild crazy high number before dying and failing playing out living the rest. The others died much more earlier and so Samsung is usually if not still the best of the best.

Personally would not touch anything else if you can avoid it.

Can't find the link atm no idea why I think I am typing the wrong search parameters but here is another experiment by heise.de and the speculation and comments from reddit.

        300 TBW (500GB)
        600 TBW (1TB)
        1,200TBW (2TB)
        2,400 TBW (4TB)
        1.5 million hours reliability

Crucial MX500 - Endurance Rating (Terabytes Written before expectation of failure)

        250GB: 100 TBW
        500GB: 180 TBW
        1TB: 360 TBW
        2TB: 700 TBW
        1.8 million hours of reliability

But yeah if you look up SSD torture test or SSD endurance stress test you might be able to find what I was talking about.. it was very popular in its day many many years ago when SSD's were still all the rave now its RTX this and Ray tracing that haha lol.

  • those are terrible figures, and probabaly based on TLC that everybody is using now 3d or whatever generation.

MLC use to be 2000 write cycles per cell …..

  • Amazing price for 1TB.
I need more storage, but this is a good sign; hoping to see proper multi-TB storage SSDs soon at affordable prices.

    • +1

It is an ok price but it has been cheaper for what it's worth.

High score I have seen is this

      • thanks for that. Bought a 970 Pro 1TB for now and will use a 4TB platter drive for storage.
Can't wait for Samsung to ramp up their new factories to build high TB SSDs.

        • all good my nibba

Yeah I can see high TV SSD drives becoming more popular as more people very into video editing and maybe 3d modeling.

It definitely helps things in the speed section.

Still love my mechanical hdd though.. Price can't be beat for large storage.

  • Where do people buy their SATA cables from?

Not close to a umart or pccasegear etc.
Do people just buy them cheap from places like AliExpress?

    • +1

If I'm not near a computer shop, I usually pick them up from Australian Seller on eBay.

With oversea charging GST and taking a few weeks to come, I rather just get them from Aussie eBay seller delivered within the week.
