Damn I shoulda taken up the Mini

    • +19

      That’s not what she said.

      • +1

        (ಠ_ಠ)

      • nowadays a subcompact is the preferred term, so I heard

    • Haha I know right? I thought the longer we defer it, the better the promo.

  • +41

I’ve been a member for 1.5 months and haven’t received any benefit. What is the benefit of eBay plus ? I don’t care about the free return postage as I don’t intend sending any items back unless they are faulty.

    • Presuming you started with the free one month trial, then handed over your $29…why did you sign up if you couldn't see any benefit?

    • +21

Pretty sure you can return things for free through Paypal anyway: https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns

      • Wow thats cool!

    • Free postage is the main benefit I joined for and I have found it worth it. Got quite a few items with free postage, and I checked on my non Ebay Plus account and they were not free shipping on there. Also they were items I watched prior to Ebay Plus so I know they charged shipping before I joined Ebay Plus. I also joined in the $29 Ebay Plus Promo so I'm happy I did it overall. Also they do deals specific to Ebay Plus members, but I haven't seen any I want to do yet.

    • +3

bought something from Comp Alliance (BNE) which would've had postage on top (they don't allow pickups)
      so that was handy
this was when it was free, justifying $30 is another matter tho

    • Got free postage (was $20) on one item. That's paid for a good chunk of the cost in a single transaction. With the free mini I'm already ahead.

    • Main benefit? The $49 Google Home Mini.

    • +4

Yes, its useless. I cancelled mine.

  • It says Ends 31/08, will it still work?

  • +5

Pity the people who signed up on 1st and 2nd September. No Google Home Mini, no eBay gift card, no discount.

A lie is not a lie until someone else knows the truth XD

    • +8

      No Google Home Mini

The horror, I'll never lose that undefined amount of money that owning this device causes.

      • +4

Don't worry, if it makes you feel better, Home just fills in the gaps your smartphone misses. Google and its masters are still listening to most of your conversations and thoughts :D

    • +3

Do not pass go, do not collect $200

  • +12

They're really trying hard to sell something that wasn't needed - pseudo value adding. It's like buying a t shirt advertising a business; how did people get scammed into doing it?

    • Oz Bargain couldn't give their T-Shirts away!

  • +23

Yeah, was a waste of money for me as well. There were more sellers early on, but due to postage pirates ebay moved to protect themselves and seems to have pulled off the postage benefit except for sellers offering close to free postage anyway.

Given the fewer listings offering postage savings, the only thing left is extra flybuys points, which is negligible anyway. No point signing up now.

  • Can you sign up get the gift card then immediately cancel for free?

    • +2

No refund of subscription fee upon cancellation.

    • +1

They only issue the gift card after you've paid your $50…..not during the trial period.

Unlike Amazon Prime where they give you a pro-rata refund.

  • +4

TBH, I probably will only consider eBay Plus if it is free. Other than the launch offer to get 25% off, it hasn't been of much use to me. I wonder how successful or how much of a failure eBay Plus has been so far…

    • +1

Failure, surely. They are desperately trying to convert people into subscribers with these offers.

They know that if they can convert everyone they will rake in $$$

  • +1

Surely it would be prudent to wait until 12 months have passed to work out if it's worth it.

    • +13

Maybe on OzPrudent. Here on OzWhinge we complain the first chance we get.

  • +40

Amazon prime shits all over eBay plus

    • +5

Sounds like eBay Plus members should invest in this

    • +4

Maybe if they partnered with Netflix and YouTube?

    • This. If you use Twitch, that itself is worth it.

    • Almost as much as they shit on their workers

    • Maybe if amazon prime was $49 a year

  • Not worth it anymore

  • +6

When I joined plus seemed good. They have now, however made anything that was already “free postage” to “eBayPlus”. Other stores that were free with eBayplus aren’t anymore. Example, Peters of Kensington was ebayplus with free postage, isn’t anymore.

Was baited to join, won’t keep it for year 2.

  • You still have 30 days to cancel right? Why not keep the goodies and hand back your membership.

    • +2

You don’t get the goodies until after the 30 days trial has passed and you have paid for the membership. They don’t refund the membership on cancellation if you’ve paid.

      • I had a very tough time to get my refund but after constant complaining on there facebook page they canceled my membership and gave me refund. It was when they charged $29 for the membership.

        • I had a very tough time to get my refund

          From the eBay Plus T&Cs:

If you cancel any time after signing up for a paid membership or converting from a free trial to a paid membership, you will not be refunded your membership fee regardless of whether or not you made any eligible purchases or have taken advantage of any eBay Plus benefits…

Your "tough time" was because they don't give refunds for the paid membership.

  • I signed up and cancelled in August before the free trial ended. Then I saw the Mini and signed up two days after my free trail ended to make sure I would get the Mini.

  • +1

So pay $49 and get $20, okay.

    • i don't get what you are trying to convey here…

      • Give it a few months, you'll eventually get it

  • +3

I was thinking of getting Ebay Plus, but i don't want to pay $49 per year for this. Don't even pay for Amazon Prime. I feel like Ebay Plus was made to be competitive with Prime but it hasn't been useful for me.

Is Ebay Plus worth it? From the comments a lot of people are regretting buying a subscription.

    • +3

I think it's worth it, but then I've already saved more than the cost of my membership. It's strange that people are complaining about it already when most are at a maximum of 2 months into their paid 12 month membership - bit premature to say it's not worth it when they have no idea what the next 10 months may hold in the way of promos. It's like some people are expecting to make back the cost of their membership in savings each week, which seems unrealistic to me.
If you're someone who regularly purchases on eBay, I'd be very surprised if you didn't come out ahead after 12 months.

    • I've found it very worth it and I am surprised at the negative comments. I have saved a lot in shipping. But I got it when it was $29 so thought it was a great deal. Though I have bought a lot since Ebay Plus and have saved over $49 on postage already. I guess it depends how much you buy to decide whether ebay plus is for you. And I guess it depends on what items they make EBay plus, I think they change it. Luckily for me, lots of the items I have needed have been Ebay Plus.

    • i didn't think it'd be worth it, but it's already paid for itself…i feel much safer buying on ebay due to their free returns policy (which i have used twice), and local stock i don't mind paying a bit extra for to get quicker and free delivery.

    • +2

Not worth. I kept my Prime cancelled Ebayplus after the free trial.

    • Only if you buy a lot of stuff.

For me, I needed the google mini to risk trying it. Because selling that will mean I pay $15-$20ish for the subscription.

I've used it once for computer alliance. But if I didn't have plus, I wouldn't have bought due to $14 shipping. So you can argue that I saved nothing on that, because it's a postage cost that I never would have been willing to pay.

I might use it once or twice on ebgames in the next year.

Honestly I don't think it'll be worth it for me at more than about $20.

    • -1

Not worth it because since I paid $29 sub nothing good come out of it for a month

  • +1

I know everyone loves complaining… but I'm quite happy ebay plus came around. I did the trial. Got myself some super cheap micro sd cards. Cancelled trial. Saving more and more money each week (and each ebay plus deal). On the road to becoming a millionaire!

  • +1

I'm confused as to why there are so many hate comments about Ebay Plus, am I missing something?

I've found it very worth it. I just bought two items from the same seller, on my non ebay plus account the shipping was $27, but as they were both Ebay Plus items, shipping was free. It was a very good deal. I have got a lot of benefit out of the free shipping on Ebay Plus and yes I do check that the shipping isn't free anyway and a lot of the items have been ones I've watched prior to Ebay Plus, so I know they never had free shipping prior either.

I think Ebay Plus is definitely worth it, especially if you got it for $29 like I did to start with. $49 does seem a bit steep though, maybe $39 would be a good alternative. Though I have definitely saved the $49 in shipping already, so I think Ebay Plus is a good thing..you've just got to work out how to use it to your best benefit.

    • Exactly, and we're what, two months in out of twelve?

      • +1

Yes that's about right. I guess I have been lucky in that a lot of items I have wanted to buy have been Ebay Plus items, but they do seem to have quite a wide selection. I'm really happy with how much shipping I have saved.

    • +2

Until 2 weeks ago it was.

Now nothing that hasn’t already got ‘free shipping’ has free with ebayplus from what I can see…

      • This. FAKE FREE SHIPPING. ebay Plus is a BIG FAKE. SCAM.

        • It's not fake. I've physically used Ebay Plus to my benefit many times since joining, and I check on my non ebay plus account that it isn't already free shipping anyway. And several of the items I've bought were already in my watch list without free shipping, but once they became plus items the shipping is now free. One thing I will say is, ACT FAST. Many times I've seen a great deal on an item I want as it is free shipping with Ebay Plus but I have left it in my watch list until the day after, then I've gone to buy it and realised it was no longer a plus item as they change plus items all the time. A bit annoying but the only negative I've experienced thus far.

      • No, I bought two items yesterday. On my non EBAY plus account shipping was charged and quite high, on my Ebay plus account shipping was free. I was very happy and bought them ASAP. Only trouble I've found with EBAY plus is that you have to be quick as items change from being Plus items quite quickly.

a google mini now gift voucher, all started the month after I joined.

    • well then you would have received eBay Plus for $29 if thats the case lol…so other than the google mini, you are about on par.

  • +2

Just a warning eBay has been double charging some people,

Try to get something that hasn't got tracking and then scam the seller…good times, eBay is broken.

  • +1

Joined last month still haven’t got my mini

    • +3

Same here. I contacted ebay about it and they gave me a $50 voucher. I now get free ebay plus for a year and a free mini (if it ever comes…)

    • Same :( where's my mini

  • Most of my purchases in the last few months were free postage.

Don't waste your money on this $hit.

  • +1

Got my money's worth ($29) in free postage at its inception, haven't used since.

Prime is a much better offering imo.

  • +2

Boycott Ebay Plus and bring back normality!

  • +1

They need to do the monthly like Amazon does. I only pay for 1 month when I need something and I see extra value to have it(cheaper/free shipping, special price etc)

  • I joined a few weeks ago but didn’t receive the google mini.. So far don’t see much benefit with ebay plus. They should give a permanent 10% discount sitewide or something like that

    • -1

Who do you expect the cover the 10%?

  • +1

isn't most 'free shipping' just factored into the price anyway? So you're better off buying from a seller that is NOT free shipping?

  • +1

$20 sounds more useful than a Google home mini.

    • +1

Yeah why pay google to spy on you at home when they already listen to you from your mobile? You're saving google surveillance costs by not buying it.

  • It was good while lots of sellers were pushing the cost to ebay via shipping cost, but since ebay closed that loophole, its not worth it anymore

  • Literally signed up to plus last night :(

  • -1

EBay plus is fairly useless. It was great in June and July when there were decent deals around. But nothing for the past month or so.

I kept it because I thought more deals would be plus members only but doesn't look like it. All these regular 20% off still going.

I see no benefit. Most sellers are off the plus list for postage.

No point. $29 down the drain for me….until I find a deal that I can save that much until next year July.

    I should have cancelled it

  • Does anyone know what was the date of joining that suppose to get the google mini? thanks

    • August.

  • So how do you access this deal, it is not showing up on ebay or accessible via the supplied link? Targeted maybe???

    • +1

      It's in the T&Cs section 8:

      Digital Gift Card Qualifying conditions

The terms in this section 8 apply if you:
Sign up for a free 30-day trial of eBay Plus between 3rd-30th September 2018 and then pay the annual Plus membership fee using PayPal on the day following the conclusion of the free trial period, or

Have completed a free 30-day trial (and ceased receiving all eBay Plus benefits) and then rejoin eBay Plus between 3rd-30th September 2018 and pay the annual Plus membership fee using PayPal between 3rd-30th September 2018 (“Digital Gift Card Qualifying Conditions”). eBay reserves the right to discontinue offering the Digital Gift Cards without prior notice. If you satisfy these Digital Gift Card Qualifying Conditions, you will receive a $20 eBay Digital Gift Card.

      • Thanks for posting that information.

So doesn't that mean it's only for people that have already completed the 30 day trial and have ceased membership and then take up a new membership before 30 September.

So for someone like myself who hasn't taken up the 30-day trial, there is not enough time to be eligible for this offer now??? Or can you cancel the free trial early. So this is one convoluted offer unless I am over thinking this.

At least it is being advertised now.

        • +1

Sign up for a free 30-day trial of eBay Plus between 3rd-30th September 2018 and then pay the annual Plus membership fee using PayPal on the day following the conclusion of the free trial period

        • @dm01:

Thanks for the further clarification, sorry I was too focused on the 30 September date for full membership. All good.

  • +2

Damn I only just joined this site and it's 95% just people moaning and silly things lol sucks

    • +4

So why did you join? Maybe to have a moan about people moaning?

      • -1

No, funnily enough I joined to find bargains! Didn't realise it would be full of people complaining. Like I wasn't going to comment but literally every second comment is someone complaining about a discount? It's annoying.

    • now im annoyed by your annoyance

  • Like many others here I found Amazon prime to be more useful. With Amex promo I'm only paying $2.5 per month so it's comparable to eBay plus price wise. But far more useful.

  • claimed a guarantee delivered with ebay plus, that's handy, but not worth by paying $49 a year.
many ebay plus items are still shipping from china or need to wait for their stock to ship from china to AU then ship from AU, that means still take ages.

i started the trial on the 31/8 , still thinking should I cancel or take the google home mini … tough decision

    • claimed a guarantee delivered with ebay plus, that's handy, but not worth by paying $49 a year.

Like anything, the value proposition will vary from individual to individual. There seem to be quite a few people (myself included) who made back the membership fee in postage savings within a month or two of joining Plus, so any further benefits are a bonus now.

eBay also just put out a selling promotion offering free listings - regular members who received the offer got 10 free listings, while Plus members got 20. Won't be useful to everyone, but it's handy for me. Little things like that will add up over 12 months for many regular users of eBay.

If you started your trial on 31/8 you still have several weeks to make up your mind, so no rush.

  • Sorry, this program is currently only available for users registered on eBay.com.au and whose billing currency is Australian Dollar.

  • what email address does the gift card come from? I signed up a few weeks back and have nothing.

    • You would still be on the one month free trial. The gift card is sent within 7 days of payment of the annual membership fee and is sent to the email address associated with your eBay account.
