    • I prefer BACON

      • That's taxing…

    • Here you are. There's even SPAM LITE. I knew you'd be pleased.

    • Hey JV,

      Thanks for stopping by.

I can assure you that POP Tax is not SPAM. We are just a small start-up trying to make it in the very competitive tax world.

Our mission is to empower Aussies to make better financial choices through better financial products. This year we are starting with the tax return!

      Happy to answer any questions!

  • Go away.

LOL. Might as well do if for free (thru mygov) if you're wanting to just do it online.

    • Does it mean they will require your login info? Scam?

      • Hi Fatice,

No we won't require your MyGov login, we are an ATO approved partner to assist in the completion of tax returns.

All you need to do is create an account in POP and all the FAQs or online chat options can help guide you through the process.

        Cheers!

True MyGov is free but I'm guessing the value they bring is better & more intuitive UI and education. I mean why pay for Spotify when you can just turn on the radio? Why pay for Netflix when you can tune in to SBS?

Thanks for joining just minutes ago & letting us know with your very first comment.

Some people are just immensely interested in online tax services.

  • Free PopTarts while you wait?

  • +4

As above, mygov is free, don't waste $34

    • +2

Agreed. Given you have to do 99% of the work anyway (which is collecting all the information), why not do the extra 1% and press submit on the mygov website.

        Hi there,

The ATO does get all the income items which flow through to the return but it does not collect any deduction information (which helps you increase your tax refund) and that's where POP comes in handy!

It's free to register so there really is nothing to lose! If you are happy with the service, you can pay at the end :)

        Cheers

Do you guys have AfterPay payment option?

        • @sky blu:

          Hi Sky Blue,

We have something similar to AfterPay which is called Pay from refund which means you won't have to pay anything upfront and your $34 fee will be taken off the refund.

          Cheers,

          @POPtax:

your $34 fee will be taken off the refund

Lol. Check your wording there. Sounds like you're guaranteeing your customers will receive a refund from the ATO.

        • @PainToad:

          That's true.

Pay from Refund s only available if you are have a refund due. We will look into integrating with AfterPay to allow users more options.

          Thanks for the feedback!

          Cheers,
          Sid

      Thanks for the link.

      • Hi Max Power,

We are an alternative provider that helps maximise refunds through our occupation specific deduction questionnaires. We have built it so that it is similar to seeing an accountant but is more convenient and cost effective.

Spamy spam. Free on mygov website.

    Hi All,

The value provided by POP compared to MyTax (MyGov) can be briefly summed up below:

MyTax (MyGov) - if you are confident you are claiming all your eligible deductions this would be a good option. However, if you need some guidance, POP has created occupation specific questionnaires to ensure you are claiming eligible deductions that you may have overlooked or never knew about. If POP is able to help you claim $100+ more deductions that itself would pay for the cost of the service. There are other promotions within the website to make the service a little more enticing!

Also, compared to other online tax services, POP's platform is the most affordable especially considering the service level we are providing.

POP's mission is simple. To empower Aussies to make greater financial choices. Starting with tax returns represent our first step to reaching that goal.

Happy to provide more information if you require! Otherwise, please email us at [email protected]

    Cheers!

Yes, you can spend your time researching and still come up with questions on how to fill out your tax return. That page is merely a resource and not a service.

POP aims to provide a service that is valuable because it saves you time and effort in completing your tax return. We would like to make the process as simple and cheaply as possible. Thereby saving you that trip to the accountant and upwards of $100.

  • Anyone paying for this doesn't deserve a tax return.

  • There are three types of people who should pay for tax returns.

    1. Business owners.
    2. People with complex investments.
    3. Idiots.
      1. Working remotely from home office..

I need to see someone in regards to % of household bills etc. (Saying that, I haven't researched it yet, so I might be an idiot and it's easier than I think… :)

      • Hi Rompastompa,

Our friendly consultants would love to help you out. Please drop me an email at [email protected] and we can get you started.

If you aren't satisfied with our service, we would be happy to refund any fees.

        Cheers,

        • Thanks but no thanks. I'll be going to a brick and mortar place to begin with.

Call me paranoid, but I'm not prepared to pass all of my details to some random online business.

          Good luck!

        • @rompastompa:

That's okay, it takes a while to gain some confidence with online businesses.

If you ever need reassurance you can find us listed on the Tax Practitioners Board website (our number is 25796386) and also under the ATO's list of approved tax agents. We are certified and this of course comes with reputational risk to ourselves.

Happy to answer any other questions.

          Cheers,
          Sid

  • Do you do tax returns for discretionary trusts rep?

    • Hi Ginmi,

We have individuals and sole traders set up at the moment and are looking to add companies and trusts in the next year.

  • You're advertising on Facebook for $19, but for us, it's $34?!

    • +1

      Hi Rompastompa,

If your income is below $20,000 the fee is $19 but after you use the promo code it will be $14.

The $34 fee is the highest anyone that uses the promo code BARGAIN will pay.

Our website pricing structure looks like this:

$19 - for a tax return with income less than $20k
$39 - for tax return without Capital Gains Tax or Investment Property
$49 - for tax return with Capital Gains Tax or Investment Property
$59 - for tax return for a Sole Trade with an ABN

We have capped OZBargain's users to $34.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Cheers,
      Sid

  • Interesting but not a bargain. ATO website is easier and user friendly AND it automatically populate your PAYG details.
