it's a TV for god's sake, not a sex object!

  • -1

Does anyone know when the new plasma range is due to be released?

    • +1

Not until April 2011 was last I heard. Given that PS50C550G1F was originally released April 2010, the expected April 2011 release date sounds about right.

  • I hope a nice big full HD plasma comes down to $200-$300 eventually then I will grab one for my room. this is a bargain, but still alot of $$$ for a poor student like me :P

    • haha yeah same here
my family household only has those big boxy tv's
our main one is starting to go all fuzzy, so looking for TV bargains in the next couple of months

      • +5

I'm astounded at the 5 negs …. have I missed something?

        • hmm idk what happened…

    • dude that has nothing to do with the price of fish in China

    • wishful thinking. get a big bulky lard-arse 80cm tv for your room. they are like $10 on ebay now.

      • one of those fell out of our TV cabinet 10 years ago and pinned my son to the floor … had to rescue him!!! :)

  • Hi Sammy, here i come. It was 1099 2 weeks ago. Last week dropped to 999 and today 799. 599 next week man

    • -3

Theoretically, prices could go lower assuming no one buys them at $799, given that they will need the warehouse room for new plasma stock, as does every other retailer.

      • you want that Brogen guy to get stuck with a few hundred TVs that he can't sell?
Would certainly teach him a lesson.

  • -1

sounds nice, but looking at the specs here http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

    its says

feature - Wireless Remote Control - No

    Huh ? no remote ?

    • nah..not true. Typo mistake must be.

    • That's right, some of Samsungs higher end TV's have WiFi remote controls.

      • -2

Don't need that funky stuff…just go for the basic since the technology changes so fast.

        • +1

wi-fi has been around for about ten years…… it ain't going anywhere for a few years at least

  • looks good, i hope the bring one of the 54"+ at $1000 and i'll get it

  • How does this compare for picture quality/features compared to the PS50C7000? Does the 3D increase 2D image quality and for someone with no intention of using 3D… is this the better buy? (Given I can get the 3D for 1100)

    • +1

We bought the PS50C7000 late last year with the 3D "How to Train Your Dragon" Christmas Bonus. We coupled it with the Sammy BD-C5900 BluRay player but have since figured out where to source 3D BD rips (iso, sbs mkv's, etc). Absolutely love this tv and all it can do.

      • +1

I'd also spend the extra for the PS50C7000, but if you don't care about 3D this is a nice deal.

  • Yes can someone knowledge of this approve - is this a good buy? If so I'm on my way..

    • I would think this is a good buy..I am heading to the store v soon.

    • don't be so easily led. read some reviews. get the facts!

  • I heard the 3D feature for PS50C7000 is not that fantastic as this was the first plasma tv with 3D.

    • +3

I've got one; and we love the 3D. We've seen Avatar, How to Drain Your Dragon, Despicable Me, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Bolt all in 3D and all the people we've seen it with reckon it's comparable to the cinema experience.

On the one hand, I'm not an video/audio snob. But my unprofessional opinion is: "Coooooooooooool!"

      • Thanks, I'm no snob either so you've swayed me. I think the problem with most reviewing experiences like this is they look for faults and point them out to the point they seem to be a big issue.

Will definitely spend the bit more money.

        • +1

If you do end up buying one, feel free to PM with any questions you have. I've got mine set up to use the extended PVR function on a dedicated hard drive (thanks to http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/39806). If I can help with anything I've learned along the way I'll try.

  • +1

    Damn! I paid $1100 3 months ago!

  • -7

isn't plasma supposed to be inferior to led? i thought it was a dying technology

    • -1

You get what you pay for.

    • +3

Really encourage you to do your own research mattgal. There's so much stigma attached to plasmas from earlier efforts. My research told me they'd taken huge steps to address a lot of the original problems/disadvantages.

Doesn't stop people on the interwebs arguing passionately things they have no experience/expertise in.

Look into it for yourself, like anything. Look for recent reviews, forums where owners discuss pros/cons etc. I remember even reading about a sparky that shared the results of his own energy usage tests.

Remember also statutory warranty when it comes to repair/replacement etc, and know your rights before purchasing extended warranties. At the end of the day, weigh up whether the price difference justifies led/plasma either way.

      • +4

Yep. It's really just a matter of preference. I prefer the image on plasma, a lot of people prefer LCD.

Most disadvantages (lifespan, etc) have been rectified over the past few years. The only real benefit I see to LCD is that plasma has a lot of glare in a bright room.

        • when I bought my last tv 2 years ago I was told for games it really had to be LCD … is that still the case?

        • I notice an annoying flicker in the plasmas I've seen. LCDs, with their constant backlight, don't have this problem. Maybe the more expensive plasmas are fine.

    • +2

Don't want to turn to a Plasma vs LCD vs LED debate, but generally, plasma still the best image quality for less money, than similar size LED/LCD tv. But that from the quality TVs like Panasonic or Pioneer. Cant's say about Samsung or LG TVs.

And yes, everyone said plasma is on the way out since 2009, then why Samsung still making them?

I have one of these, bought it in June 2010 for $1500 with the free blue ray home theatre promo. Overall I'm happy with it, picture quality is great, does have the slight buzzing noise that some Samsung plasmas experience. I initially wanted the PS50C6500, they are thinner and come with the internet@tv function, but these days you can get the PS50C7000 for the same price.

  • I love plasmas and for that price and at that size at 1080 for a reputable brand, this is an awesome price considering the price I paid for a 32 Inch not to long ago.

  • I'm guessing they won't let us use a 15% off coupon on this? Last time they made up some BS about the 15% off only being valid on the RRP of their products.

  • Where is that 15% docket from
Would you care to share ?

  • Got this tv at goodguys, got it for 650 after a bit of bargaining.

    • +5

I call BS. I'd love to be proven wrong but I highly doubt it.

(You'll probably say something like "since you're being such an a*se, I won't show it" but I'm just calling it as I see it)

  • Can you post a scan of your reciept please wilddude503?

  • +1

Could you post your $650 receipt please ?

  • he probaby got the c450 and doesnt quite know what the model is

  • Hi guys quick question any idea on where to get waterproof caseings for a tv like this. I want to put it outside.

    Thank you
    Robert

  • Not FULL HD though andyken. Pay the extra $50 and get the FULL HD mate. It's worth it without a doubt. Thanks for the post huyie. Great buy for a second TV or similiar. Just picked one up for the kids room at Bendigo. 5 left there is anyone is interested.

    • lucky kids you have! 50 inches in a bedroom is gigantic!!!

      • Sorry mate, not for the kids bedroom but the rumpus room. Wii/X-box 360 and PS-3/DVD screen.

        • +1

I love "rumpus" rooms. They really mean "uber-fun gaming and entertainment section of the house"!

  • Ok im getting one now, will be kicking myself if they go any lower.

  • Excellant deals compared to others even with different brands, so tempted to get one

  • +2

I just took the plunge. But could not fit into my SUV :(.

    • wow really 50" can't fit.

hope you got it back home somehow!

      • +1

Yes, can't fit with its packaging. What to do..have to pay 40 bucks for the delivery on Monday. The sales person said plasma TV is fragile and it can't be lying flat during the delivery. It has to be stand straight.

        • +1

they told me this as well 3 years ago when i bought my samsung 50" plasma. i laid it flat in my honda hrv, took it home, left it properly standing for a day and then turned it on. 3 years later, tv is still going strong.

        • +1

If you lie them flat there is a good chance it will flex during transport(not just from bumps but negative/positive G's over crests and dips), and as the screen is glass it can crack very easily.

    • +2

can't you borrow a van or even a semi-trailer off someone?

  • Hope they still have some tomorrow.

  • Pretty tempting, however series 5 how old is it?

  • Pretty tempting, however series 5 how old is it?

  • Rockdale sold out caringbah sold out managed to get one from bankstown

They don't budge on price at all. 798 best cash price, and couldn't be bothered trying any more since it's a runout model and no other good guys around the area.

Didn't think it was worth extra 400 for the c7000, it's just slimmer with 3D

There's around 3 left here then no more stock as this is discontinued model

Managed to buy one of these today for 740

      • damn that's awesome, could only knock them down to 790 at Moorrabbin.

      • Thanks mate, got it for that price! Good Guys around me couldn't match it so went to Brighton too!

        • can you upload the receipt, 2 is better than just 1!

        • Bought it over the phone and delivered, didn't need to go in.

Unfortunately, the receipt is in the mail and will be with the TV tomorrow when it gets delivered.

    • Did you use jedi mind powers?

  • Bought the very same TV from that store 2 days after Christmas for $976 plus got a samsung Bluray player for an additional $38 otherwise I would be very annoyed :(

    • It always seems like a good deal at that particular point in time. Future price drops on tech gears are inevitable, even so to be expected by consumers.

  • Got one today. Whats the LAN port for can I connect to nas to play divx?? Does it support mkv n x264 ???

    • These Play MKV VERY Well….better than my astone mkv player…Only thing it doesn't do is play subtitles on mkv.

  • Gerry Harvey will be very upset that a competitor is offering another bargain. Good on you "The Good Guys". Keep punishing Gerry until he gives away to charity some of his billions. The greedy …….

    • Agreed. They have been overcharging us for a long long time. Keep it coming, the good guys.

      • 99% of the time YOU ARE RIGHT!!!

However I bought the Samsung 50" Full HD Plasma TV PS50C7000 yesterday at Harvey Norman, Liverpool for $1,100 - truely a great deal.

The manager in charge insisted that I should take out their "Product Care" plan that extends the original warrant by a further 4 years - being the total warranty period to 5 years - all for $300. The manager said that in his experience plasmas seem to breakdown a lot quicker in the first few years of use.

Any comments about their "Product Care" plan, and the managers statement about breakdowns.

        • Good on you, mate. Too bad, we all pay at premium price in WA.

  • my one seems to buzz a bit too much for my liking - can hear it 3 meters back when on mute. logged a call with samsung.

    • Yeah, I can hear mine buzz from that distance as well, so you're not alone. I'm just telling myself it was cheap and I can put up with a few imperfections. If they do manage to fix yours, can you please reply back.

    • suggestion would be to update the firmware if you haven't done so. might help.

    • I think the buzz a bit more prominent when you mount it on the wall. Turn on the eco mode and place it 2 feet away from the wall should be able to mitigate the situation.

    • Samsung said since it's within 14 days, take it straight back to retailer.

My firmware is up to date. I did not have it mounted. The buzz was too annoying especially since its in the bedroom, it's a common issue with Samsung, so this is going back for a full refund tomorrow morning. It was cheap, but i'd rather pay an extra grand and get something I can live with and not have to think about the buzz every time I watch.

Unfortunately since it's a common issue with Samsungs (even up to series 7), i'm not willing to take a replacement.

For anyone thinking of returning, and wanting a refund - their policy - print this out when you go back and don't accept store credit. If they kick up a fuss just show them the print out or say you'll go to Fair Trading and they'll happily oblidge.
