As an Android fan, I'm actually embarrassed by how many top brands are busting out these notched phones.

    • +3

That is why the LG V30+ is great value to those who don't want a notch and also like a headphone jack :-)

      • -2

Yes it is good value but I am disappointed with the 5MP front camera :/

        • +2

dont worry…you'll still look like a celeb with a 5mp selfie.

        • -2

@jmw2207: Ofcourse! but the clarity and resolution matters

      • I'm certain that the G7 has a headphone jack.

Getting rid of useless, ugly bezel is a strange thing to get embarrassed about.

Silence from the Android fanbois about copying things despite insisting that Apple copied everything it ever did.

      • +7

especially seeing it was Apple that copied the notch from Android phones such as Sharp models that were well before iphone x (a year or more). But Apple does it and then people are fans of it.

      • Essential Phone was one of the first phones to have a notch in 2017 (announced and released before Apple's iPhone X), and even theirs was minimal (teardrop notch is what its being referred to I think).

      • The notch is far uglier and more obtrusive than thin bezels. Samsung have done well I think, and Chinese companies are actually being innovative about it.

Copying is a good thing, as long as it's a useful and desirable feature - a good idea is a good idea.
Sadly, whenever Apple is copied, it's usually bad for the user - propriety ports, removing headphone jack, notch etc…

Oneplus 6p here. I don't notice the notch and love the extra real estate.

      • only grey imports though, oneplus abandoned Australia back when the 5 was released.

    • +1

why, the notch just adds some extra space for information that is often unused.

  • +4

I don't care about the notch.

Keeping the 3.5mm jack is most important and LG do it the best with their HiFI Quad-DAC.

If you don't care about updates, go LG. They don't bootloop anymore but their screens leave a lot to be desired. Mine have all had image retention issues.

Also, qd_au have been excellent in my experience - so much so that I'd happily go grey import from them.

This isn't a stellar price, and it might be worthwhile getting the V30+

    • Hows the battery life on the V30?

      • +1

        Don't know. I own a G6.

G6 battery, with my heavy usage is adequate. With Sync and Location off, connected to wifi, I easily get a day

    • What is wrong with their screens?

      • As I said, my old V20 and brother's G6 exhibit screen retention.

        • +1

Using a v20 now, indeed starting to show image retention about a year in.

        • @jungness:
Exactly the same as my v20, image retention just over 1yr old.

    • Any idea if you can root this G7 easily and if you can restore for warranty purpose

  • +1

From my experience with LG G6… GO FOR a G7 for SURE!

    • +1

you mean G6 bad or good?

      • +1

G6 is amazing at its price. The screen is just too good! and my iPhone and samsung friends envy my G6's camera! but the front cam is not so good at 5MP. Battery life is a bit mediocre due to the screen demands. And at times heavy apps lags a little. But this phone is a must for music lovers for the quad dac. All the above cons have been taken care of in G7.

To add: My G6 fell 3-4 times from my hand (even on the streets) but screen still protected! My manager's S8 fell on office carpet and the screen broke.

        • Do we have the same phone? :(
Wide angle is a bonus yes, but day to day shots are pretty bad - definitely worse than iPhone 6, my old S6, Pixel, and Nexus 6P in terms of low light, colour, clarity, and noise. And the shutter lag…. bleh.
I do agree it's built like a tank and they're good value for sure - but LG prices tend to drop like a rock - so the key thing is never EVER buy LG at the RRP!

        • I can relate. My g6 fell multiple times but no damage to glass at all. Amazing quality, quad dac and wide angle lens is amazing.

      • It is great!

        • I'll go for V30 or G7 next.

  • Does this have a notification led?

    • dunno, but it has the Always on display which shows stuff

    • +1

      Yes it does.

As someone who daily carries a Galaxy S9 (work phone) and an LG G7 (personal), this is a great deal at the price point. Very underrated phone - the quad dac is awesome and the screen is actually fantastic (it is an IPS display so while not as vibrant as the S9, is more colour accurate, and with the "overboost" brightness mode is just as readable in sunlight).

At first I didn't love the notch but I have gotten used to it now. I do with the bottom bezel was a bit smaller though (although I understand why it is needed).

  • Anyone know if they will provide Tax invoice and can claim TRS?

    • No TRS since the seller is not based in Australia.

      • +1

but we paid GST already to AUS GOV!

        • oh yea good point, wonder if this means going forward we can even claim TRS with grey stock?!

        • @homersyd: Is that price includes GST? Item description says they might ship from overseas.

  • The LG G series price drops have begun!

    • Under $600 is what I'm waiting for
