    I would wait ~ there's new plans coming ~

    • +7

      Go on…

      • +3

Was @ JBHIFI last sunday asking about the $35 plan with $200 credit.

Was told about plan above - but they said "New Plans" are coming ~ Wait a week

        • I think it's just a new prepaid plan with JB that is yet to be launched.

        • Ready for a new plan, on the 20gb $40 one from 12 months ago. Anyone avoided the port out port in saga through Telstra chat? Is it easy enough to buy a $2 sim and port back in for the JB $200 gift card? Anyone wanna buy a gift card next week haha

          • @Bargearse: Just need to wait 30 days after porting out to port back in to be eligible

          • +2

@Bargearse: I did it the next day after porting, just need to get a good jb staff member

        • +1

They only just launched the current ones?

        • @Bargearse:

I always wondered with the Optus $2 where they make you fill out your cc details does that mean they’ll auto recharge you?

          • @nightelves: you can activate Optus $2 sim without filling out cc details but will need another form of identification

        • +1

          So any news on the "new" plans… it's been a week… :)

        • thanks for sharing :D, out now

  • Does any plan includes international calling?

    • +7

If I am not wrong, you can add unlimited international calling to several countries incl. India for an additional $10/mo on any plan.

  • Just wondering if there is any way to get a discount for the $199 ultimate plan. Planning to use it for home internet too.

    • +1

Join Amway as a rep. and then get 20% off. Apart from that unfortunate road to getting 20% off $199 ($40 off). the most Telstra has offered is $20 off the Ultimate plan which you can get by talking to the correct person who knows what they are doing.

      • +1

        No its 10% off now.

        • I see. Yes it is. Thanks for update.

      • Thanks LDS. I have been trying on Telstra Chat, Call up sales team and visit the retail store and they wouldn't give $10 per month discount. Does it cost anything to join Amway lol 10% off may be worth the effort

Has anyone been successful in porting out to another carrier and port back in the same day? Was told by one store need 30 days and the other store told me three months (he has no clue).

    • I went through that 6 months ago.

The most consistent answer I got was that you needed to wait a month however sometimes they are willing to try to put it through their system. It accepted it on my occasion and they were happy.

In a nut shell, I went to one store to get the plan then took the gift card to another to buy the phone… all because only one was happy to port me back so quickly and the other offered a bit of a deal on the phone. Pays to shop around, even within the same company :)

    • +1

Did anyone visit a Telstra store and ask them to remove your old telstra account once you ported out? I remember reading this somewhere. Say something like, you want it removed to avoid any confusion if you port out of your new provider, but the porting system still thinks you are with Telstra. This is exactly what happens with Optus. Worth a shot.

      • +5

As someone that worked for Telstra. Removing the old account makes absolutely no sense in terms of how siebel works.

        • Okee dokes. I'm purely basing this on visiting a Telstra store once after my phone was stolen and they were setting up a new sim. They looked up my details and about 5 old mobile / data accounts came up. They asked me if I wanted to remove the accounts no longer needed 'to avoid future confusion'? They did it right there and then. Never had an issue porting in /out of Telstra.

However, Optus always comes up as my number being a current customer when I port back, even though I hadn't been an Optus customer for 6 months between ports. Obviously just a coincidence, or they have changed the system recently to worm out us old sim s!uts

          • @tunzafun001: Generally You have one account with Telstra that stays active, and can't be deleted. Then you can build billing accounts within that. It's possible, if you had several "data" accounts that they were likely separate billing accounts within your account that were possibly Prepaids?

Disconnecting the services will cause that billing account to go into inactive status, which will then delete them once they have been unused for 6 months.

      • Makes no difference I got ported back to an old account I had 5 years ago…

    • +1

I was going for the $49/model + $200 GC a few months back. I ported out to Vodafone and within 5hrs or so I went to sign up to the Telstra plan and it worked no problem. I didn't speak to any reps or anything. Just did it at home myself.

      • How did you do it at home?

        • I meant I just did the porting to Vodafone at home, sorry. Then I went in store to get the deal and port back. No messing around with reps online though.

          • @CaptainTrentos: Ah sure. Did you do it same day, or wait a month?

            • @readeral: I was able to do it all within the same day. I ported to Vodafone in the morning, then a few hours later I went to JB and ported back to Telstra with no issues.

    • I can tell you that I have recently relegated my postpaid TLS to prepaid and waited 2 days and managed to get the $39/20gb + $200 JB Hifi card.

      This happened last month.

      • How did you go about this ?

  • +1

I can't find where on the page they are offering this.

    • New plan instore @ JB Hi Fi

  • +2

Groundhog Day? Get voucher… port yourself in …then you port yourself out …do the hokey pokey, all gets confusing after that.

  • For $45 plan, can $200 gift card be used to purchase anything from JB Hi Fi or is it only valid to purchase a phone?

    • +2

GC can be used on anything.

  • +3

so im on $39 for 20gb really Telstra has ramped up the price by $6 just to give you data which essentially costs them nothing…. lol good on ya Telstra

    • 200 bucks negates all that…

      • +1

I got the $200 jbhifi gift card as well. Just didn't mention it as I was purely talking about the plan.

  • Didn't get a definitive answer last time - anyone tried getting this deal porting from Belong/Boost/other Telstra mvnos?

    • Cannot port in from boost or belong, any other provider is possible

      • Woolworths?

        • Yes can be done with woolworths, i did this last time.

  • Phone purchase under $999 rules out all of the new iPhones doesn't it?

    • Then you go for $500 off on phones above $999 rrp.

Instead of the $300 off on phones below $999 rrp.

  • +2

Existing customers (out of contract) can also upgrade to the $65pm deal over 24 months and claim a $300 GC towards a new phone 📱 👍

  • +26

Very smart how they advertise the deal.. Those $65 deals sound ok until you work it out eg:

    $65 x 24pm = $1560

    Say you choose a $1400 phone minus the $500 credit = $900

    $1560 + $900 = $2460 over 24m = $102.50pm

Really your signing up to a $102pm plan over 24m (depending what phone you choose) unless you really need Telstra service I’d be shopping around

If your going to pay up $999 upfront you shouldn’t be locking yourself in for 24m.. Work it out before signing up

    • +2

Yep in the end it works out effectively about $40-45/month (plus cost of phone) when you can get ~$39 as a fairly regular deal anyway without the circus maths and only a 12 month commitment.

  • +2

Can you still get an extra 5GB from livechat ontop of the 25?

    • Cant hurt to ask. Worst they can say is no.

    • Just tried, they have it straight away
      Didn't even try hard

  • I am with AldiMobile. Wondering if I am eligible to get this deal since Aldi Mobile is using Telstra Network?

    • yes you are eligible.

    • You should be fine, it's still technically a port.

  • +1

Do you think there will be a $10 port in credit for this new $45 plan? I dont see how thus plan is better as they claimed but only pay $6 more to get 5gb.

If not, do they still have the old $39 (incl $10 port credit) for 20gb + $200 voucher?

Also with the $10 port in credit, does it stick for the life of the contract (until you change plans) or only for the first 12 months?

    • 12 months. During the contract only

      • That sucks. Has anyone succesfully negotiated with telstra for a permanent $10 off?

        I found this
        https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/com…

Is this a permanent $10 off as it doesnt say for 12 mths only. Might be a better deal compared to jb one long term.

      • Just checked with telstra chat. If you sign with telstra the $10 is life of plan (asked me to see terms once i sign up). However they cannot twll me if it is the same if i sign through jb.

What network is for ? 3g or 4g? It doesn't say on the link

    • Telstra currently don't separate the network tiers from a billing perspective. You will generally have access to all available technologies (3G, 4G etc) and will generally default to best available within practical limits.

  • Pixel 2 for $49/month with 20gb is what I got last Christmas so it's bound to get better than that right?

    • Still envious of people who managed to get $10 off that amazing price. I signed up in March, but they refuse to provide any other discounts or bonuses other than the 5GB bonus data.

  • +2

I'm out of contract with Optus and this deal is enticing. However, Telstra getting rid of their shared data SIMs recently is a deal breaker :(

  • Can someone confirm if this deal is available on all JB Store? Just called Bankstown and they do not have this promotion. Thanks.

  • Would have preferred they just bring back 39/20. Still factoring in the 200 it's better value PM than the optus deal if you don't need 30gb.

  • I was on telstra prepaid and moved to Vodafone postpaid and within 24hrs went to JB Hifi for Telstra 45$ plan - everything worked like a charm. My number ported back to Telstra in 10 mins.

Collected my 200$ card - it lowers my payment to 28.33$/month overall.

    Thanks OP!!

    • Did u try your luck on a $10 port credit?

      • Nay

    • It is good for the first 12 mths at $28 but then onwards it will be $45. I still dont think this is a better deal than the previous $39 for 20gb + $200gc.

      • Who told you that we can not port out again 😜

  • So I did the similar deal earlier this year ported out to Optus and back in to Telstra and scored the $200 gift card. Am in the last couple months of my contract and Telstra is telling me it'll set me back $84.50 to end my contract early. Almost worthwhile porting out again and coming back in!

  • How long is this likely to run for? I'm only out of contract in December but this would be a huge upgrade for me.

    • Usually 3 weeks till they renew the offer

  • +1

Ported in this arvo. Got an email saying 15GB of data. Checked the telstra app and it said 15GB. Rang JB and they said give it a couple of days and the extra 10GB will be added. Now what to spend the $200 on.

    • +1

Got an email saying 15GB of data. Checked the telstra app and it said 15GB.

Go to 24/7 live chat and get them to check your account. And if they say its not there. Get them to add it.

    • +1

I had the same issue yesterday afternoon. Got onto live chat last night and they added the 10GB on.

    • Spoke with Telstra today and they also the extra credit will appear in a couple of days. I'm guessing I'll be chasing it up again in a few days.

      • Sure enough I had to contact Telstra AGAIN today to get my plan to reflect the 25GB. The online consultant didn't seem to know about the 25GB and had to look into it before updating my account.

        • Telstra are doing my head in. Had to speak with them again today to get the data added. Somehow the girl managed to do on the spot what the past 3 people couldn't do at all. Go figure!!!!

          • @kaboomxyu: FYI its currently a bug with provisioning the extra 10GB
            Mine still hasnt been done..

I contacted Live Chat - They said "please wait while we provision the 10GB" and they give me a $5 discount and bumped to 20GB
I'm like what about my 10GB? No idea whats going on

  • I am out of contract with my iPhone 6 plus with Vodafone. I pay around $40 a month and get 20gb. I’d be looking at doing the $45 pm with 40gb.

I’m reading a lot about people porting back. Why would I want to do that? Would it be useful for me to do that?

    • Read properly..people on telstra or associates are porting out and then porting back to get the Jb deal.

      • people on telstra are porting out and then porting back to get the Jb deal.

Except YMMV as others who tried. Some got told they have to clear a billing cycle or 30 days before they can port back to telstra.

      • Thanks mate

  • I've got a prepay telstra sim that I've used for years as I like the phone number.

Would I have to port into someone like vodafone to take advantage of one of these JBHIFI deals?

    • +1

As an existing customer you can sign up to the $65 plan and would qualify for a $300 gift card.

If you were to port out you'd have to wait 30 days before porting back in, at which point the offer might have ended.

      • +1

        Thanks for the speedy response.

I've just been using the $50 a month prepay which I think gives about 7 or 8gb.

To keep my number I think I'll try to port to vodafone for a month or two in order to be ready to jump on the next deal.

$65 plan is outside of my present budget unfortunately and I don't want to be stuck with a 2 year contract.

I'm pretty happy with my iPhone 6 and don't see any pressing need to upgrade.

      • Is the $300 gift card only towards a new phone?

Also not everyone has had to wait 30 days when porting out…I certainly didn't last time.

  • +1

Ported in today and just wanted to let people know that the gift card is valid for one day only unless you get the staff to transfer it to a normal (plastic) gc. Thanks OP

    • Does the paperwork list the gift card or deal at all?

      • Yes it does, also voucher is valid for 2 years

    • +2

Not sure if it's store specific but I'm the fourth person in the family to port and we've all received "normal" gift cards by default. Salesperson even emphasised they don't expire anymore.

      • Yup same, they also advised me only the manage could transfer to a plastic card

  • +2

If you are with Telstra, just get a new number and call telstra to transfer your old number to the new plan and new number to old plan then cancel old plan. No need to port out and in

    • Let me see if I've got this right:
      1) buy Optus prepaid & activate
      2) sign up to $45 jb hifi plan, port in & receive $200 gift card
      3) call Telstra & transfer your old number to the new plan and new number to old plan then cancel old plan
      4) win

Is transferring numbers to different plans really a thing?? Didn't even know this

      • Let me see if I've got this right:
        1) buy Optus prepaid & activate

        1) Buy telstra prepaid and activate.

        Steps 2, 3 and 4 remain same.

        FTFY
