I think that means purchasing Amazon Prime memberships

  • Wow such a great price

  • +1

    GoPro compatible?

    • UHS-1 might be a bit slow.

  • Is this good for the Switch? Need one after that 19th birthday sale!

    • +4

I've got the same one in my Switch, works great.

      • +2

Do you need a 200gb one? Seems a bit overkill if buying physical games.

        • +1

I got plenty of eshop games. If you're just getting physical games it would be overkill.

        • +1

I assume if a hacked Switch will save their games on the card right? Anyone can confirm?

          • @wtfnodeal: As far as I know the game saves are stored in the console memory.

        • At $50 I wouldn't call it a bad buy. It'll last you a long time if you're mainly using physical and probably isn't much more money than a smaller one.

Keep in mind some retail games have mandatory downloads and some have larger downloads than whats on the cart from memory, so even if you go physical you'll likely want some storage over time given a number of companies are looking to cut back on the cost of cartridges by using smaller ones.

Also DLC will take up space.

  • I'm seeing $61.92?

    • Hmm weird, mine is definitely $53.79..

      • I was about to edit my comment. Can see the $53.79 + $8.13 delivery in the US store.

        AU store is $61.92

        • +1

I just tested it again, I'm seeing $53.79 logged in, but $61.92 logged out.. Unless it's only for prime members?

Yeah I think it's safe to say this is for prime members only, just tested it with a non-prime account and it came up $61.92.

    • Me too - $61.92

Can anyone else confirm whether they can see at $53.79?

  • Just bought mine last week for $78 :-(
Does Amazon do price refunds if recently bought?

    • Ask online at least for store credit

      • +1

        they said no :-(
online chat said to return the one and buy a new one.
        I might write this off…lol

        • $24 but you have to post it and they refund the postage after received. Depends if you have the time :)

        • +1

Some platinum credit cards have price protection built in. If you bought with one you can try the card issuer.

  • +2

Great price for a storage card. Wouldn't use it for high end video recording/photography though, as the write speed seems to top out at about ~14MB/s. It'd take close to 3 hours to completely fill up :)

    • +2

14MB/s is a deal breaker. Getting 80MB/s writes on Samsung EVO plus.

    • heya, sorry if dumb question but the OP states transfer speeds up to 100MB/s. is that a different measure to the 14MB/s you're quoting or am i missing something?

      • 100mb is reading speed

        • right of course. thanks.

      • +2

Speeds on SD and micro-SD cards are confusing, because there are three speed numbers for all cards.

The "UHS" speed is the speed of the communications interface, also called "transfer speed" or "bus speed". UHS-I cards can "talk" at up to 104MBps, UHS-II cards can talk at up to 312MBps. UHS-II cards are very rare, and have an extra row of contacts, so they will only achieve the higher speed in devices that use the second row of contacts. There's a picture of a UHS-II card on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Ultra_High_Speed_(UHS)_bus

UHS speed is often quoted by sellers, and it's an almost-useless number. It's like saying "my car's tyres are rated to 250kph", that doesn't mean your car can achieve that speed.

Read speed is how fast you can actually read the data from the card. This is only rarely listed. On quality-brand cards, it is often close to the UHS speed - for example, as quoted by zealmax above, Samsung EVO plus gets about 80MBps, close to the 104MBps limit of the UHS-I communications interface.

Write speed is the most important speed for most people, how fast you can push data onto the card. This is shown on the card, its the "U" with a number inside. "U1" means at least 10MBps, "U3" means at least 30MBps.

On the card pictured in this deal, you can see the "U" with a "1" inside it, that's "U1" speed, so write speed is more than 10MBps. Directly below the "U" is the Roman number "I", indicating a UHS-I communication interface.

Just to be even more confusing, some cards have a "class speed" and/or a "V speed". You can safely ignore these. If you go into the specs, the class speed and V speed are the same as the U speed.

Everything I wanted to know in one place, thanks bud.

What constitutes high end-video recording - would this be okay in a phone recording UHD for instance?

      • No

      • What constitutes high end-video recording - would this be okay in a phone recording UHD for instance?

I would say yes. The S9 uses a bitrate of 72Mbps which is 9MB/s. This card will do at least 20MB/s.

I trust my own real life experience over that of a YouTube review. Thanks all the same.

    • +1

Seems only to apply to dashcam usage.

      • -3

the dashcam is just an example of using it in a video environment. I wouldn't risk it, especially if you intend to record important events. I personally just stick with the Samsung Evo+

        • +1

          Fair enough.

But for media storage with infinitely less write cycles on a tablet or laptop, it's hard to go past the price.

  • -2

If you're looking for a larger capacity I.e. 256+ then check out the US store. It's almost half the price of the AU store after delivery charges.

    • +3

How? I thought Amazon US suspended all deliveries to Australia months ago?

I still get the error message, "We are unable to ship non-digital items from amazon.com to Australian shipping addresses" when trying to buy via your link or any other non-downloadable item…

      • Use a freight-forwarding service. So you ship it to a US address (of the freight-forwarding service), and they re-ship it to you for a fee. Shipito are one such company, I don't know if they are good. See the forums.

  • I keep telling myself i want the evo plus and not the sandisk, but this comes to about 24c per GB, while the Samsungs are closer to 30c/GB.

Especially when its just to go into my switch, and I still have 15GB left on a 64GB card and i buy all the big releases as physical, so its just for eshop only games.

    • This card runs faster than Evo plus in your Switch

  • Will this card record 4K video OK?

  • is this better than the samsung evo's i see around for about $30 for 128gb?

  • +1

Seems to be $53 from Amazon US, and $61 from Amazon AU. Thats maybe why non-prime members are seeing the higher price.

    • Amazon US is also good for us Kiwis. U$34.99 + $5.29 s/h. Nice.

  • Just purchased a 128GB extreme pro for my go pro hero 5 for 70.26 today from Amazon US. Free shipping as prime customer.

Read and writes @100MB much better for recording 4K video

Used cash rewards but unsure if it'll track but I think it should since I purchased through Amazon AU? Can anyone confirm?

    • +1

No problemo if you clicked through the cashrewards website.

    • +1

Read and writes @100MB much better for recording 4K video

Card manufacturers would like everyone to believe you need a more expensive high-speed card for 4K video.

In reality it depends on what bitrate the 4K video is being recorded at.

If you actually needed 100MB/s for recording 4K video, you would only be able to record 21 minutes of video on a 128GB card - that's a bitrate of 800Mbps.

Of course that isn't the case. A GoPro Hero 5 Black uses a max bitrate of 60Mbps. That means at its highest quality settings, it will never write more than 7.5MB/s. You can double or triple that to give a safety margin, and it'll be 22.5MB/s which is well within the capability of this 200GB card.

  • Woot, thanks OP!!

    Snagged one. :)

  • Oh dammit, I just ordered one on ebay a few days ago to go with my cheap 2nd Switch. Ffs

  • Can anyone confirm that cashreward tracks the purchase? I started to have some untracked purchased with cashreward in the last few months.

    • +1

The amazon issue was fixed about 2 months ago.

Before you had to email Cashrewards your invoice to prove the amazon order.

  • Any good deals on the 400fb

    • Is that .. 400 x 10^-15 bytes? ;)

  • +1

    Why do the specs say:
    Wireless Type 802.11.a

Surely these cards don't have built-in WiFi and this is a mistake… surely?

    • Yup it's a mistake.

  • Mine arrived today!!

Thanks Amazon and OP. 11 days early.
