  • Noob question, what can I stick these in that will store all my home 4k footage

      A NAS

just get the WD portable/external hdd, more cheaper than getting this + a dock/enclosure.

Problem with some of the WD portables is the poorly designed ventalation which causes early HDD failures.

I know this happens with mybook which has a RED drive (albeit white label OEM).

    • Asustor or Qnap nas that have the capability of showing 4K movies through HDMI

    • Could also connect to your router if it’s half decent

    • An old PC with FreeNAS

  • Is this actually a fairly decent price?

    • Looking at msy and previously posted deals, looks like it. I bought one

    • It's fine, but exemplifies how badly we get screwwd on HDD prices in Australia. Can import a WD mybook with an 8TB white label drive in it for $250 Aus if time it right and happy to shuck. I got my last lot of four into the country for less than $1000 AUD. This was before the GST on international purchases though.

      • Only problem with Shucking is that the White Labels although are RED do not have TLER enabled, there is plenty of scenarios which this doesn't matter. If i remember correctly this matters if you use a Hardware RAID, but usually OK for Software RAIDs.
