Oh man I was all in thinking of buying, then realised it's still the dual core cpus. Man that is so much money to spend on a dual core.

    • Can you explain this to me? I honestly bought it because it looks nice and was just getting sick of my MacBook just not doing enough!

      • +1

The base 13inch model with the i5 is still the i5 7th gen CPU, so it's a dual core, it also does not include a dGPU so it's thinner/lighter/cheaper. Given that this doesn't have thunderbolt I'd personally opt for the i7/dgpu models (if available).

Most laptops are quad core, while this is dual core. It just means that if you plan on doing anything strenuous like playing games, coding, video editing etc etc it will not be as fast as others. Example I code on my i5 dual core, and it drives me crazy as it feels slow, compare to an i7 quad core which compiles code faster and runs without heating up as much as it does things faster.

        • Ahh thanks for the clarification. Gaming I won’t do so much of nor do I edit videos but I do some light coding for school (beginner level) which I think should be enough for me!

          • @mysticturtle: Yep light coding will be fine. It might become frustrating if you decide to do more complex solutions later on, just a heads up.

As reference, I still code on an old 2012 MacBook air and it's pretty good.

2 cores in 2018 for this price is unacceptable. What a ripoff.

  • Wow that is a good deal.

Back when I bought mine I had JB match HN 20% off because I ain't giving Gerry money, the sales rep mentioned that at 20% off RRP these is below cost.

      • +6

Oh yeah I agree with that, Gerry should never get any money from any of us. I held out for the Book 2 purely for the 8th gen processors, but MS screwed us by using 7th gen for the i5. Was way too expensive for a 7th gen.

Went with a Pro 2017 instead with the student discount from the MS store!

the sales rep mentioned that at 20% off RRP these is below cost

Do you usually believe sales people?

        • He showed me the entries in their inventory system because I called BS, the 13 i7/16/512 was ~$90 below cost.

  • No gpu

  • If only it was i7.

  • +1

As mentioned in the first post the i7 model is also available and has gpu.

Should I buy this or wait for the new model which is available in 2 weeks?

  • Ignore comment, wrong model.

  • Thanks for the info, @mysticturtle !
Just bought mine 512 i7 16GB with 800$ bargain from normal pricing, waited for it! Appreciate.

  • Any strong rumours about an update in November/December?

  • On using the promo code on ebay I am getting an error “we ran into a problem, please try again later”. Anyone else facing this?
