Sadly, that will not be the case.

2060 will not be a RTX card. It will just be a GTX card.

      • That's a rumour, and not a sound one given the architecture.

  • +4

I'd highly recommend either waiting for actual RTX benchmarks or grab the 1080Ti

    • +13

Umart only has that asus blower 1080ti in stock, PC Case Gear's cheapest 1080ti is $1129. For 10 dollars it's absolutely worth getting the 2080. Even if dlss and rtx turn out to be trash, it's performance is still better (albeit slightly) than the 1080ti.

      • +1

To add, the cheapest custom 1080 Ti on staticice is a Zotac at $1099 so not far off either.

        • +1

sorry - i should've clarified, get a 1080ti second hand. there's plenty around and can be grabbed for around $800

          • +1

@jztilly: I sold a 980 recently, and the person didn't even inquire as to whether or not it worked (it did). How did you make sure the 1080ti you purchased wasn't a paperweight?

            • @SaddenAscentAspirin: how much did you get your for 980? I have an asus 980 that i:ll be selling when i upgrade

              • +1

@DarthAntz: @DarthAntz $250, asus strix 980 'oc'. I probably could have gotten more based on the interest, and likely a bit more again if I was in a more populated area.

                • @SaddenAscentAspirin: I dont have a box when i sell it, so i:ll either have to package it in the box my new card comes in or modify an old VHS tape box. I:ll be shipping it when i sell too. thanks for the response

@DarthAntz: I'd take a video of it running, show the date, show device manager or something, just in case someone asks. Keeps you from having to reinstall it after you get the new beast.

@SaddenAscentAspirin: people on overclockers tend to be pretty decent human beings. i dont have a 1080ti - i traded up my 1060 to a 1080 which is more than enough for 1440p gaming!

      • I've seen 1080ti's go for $900 new recently. Fairly good odds another will popup for that price soon.

        • Yep 950 for an MSI gaming X about a month or two ago.

These 20 series cards have entirely put me off building a gaming pc again. Ludicrous pricing.

    • -2

Its been that way since before this card. Memory fails me, but I think the 680 was the last reasonably priced card I bought

      • +1

That's probably mainly because the 700 series sucked and the AUD had depreciated by the time the 900 series was out.
The 980 and 1080 were only $50 more than the 680 at launch and the 970 and 980ti were incredible value for their time (in USD)

    • +1

There are plenty of older cards on the market that can run current games fine (1070, 1080, 980ti if you can find one). If you want max fps at 4k, then the prices of the 20xx cards probably aren't a concern to you. Nothing about PC gaming is cheap compared to a console.

      • I'm well aware. My gripe is the flagship pricing has effectively doubled.

        I had a 1080 machine before.

When consoles are improving rapidly and Nvidia answers with $2300 gpus that starts getting stupid.

This is actually good value for money in context, as the non-OC versions due later this month will only have an MSRP of about $100 lower, and this comes with a better binned chip.

5-10% more performance for 9% more in price.

      • +2

You are the first person I've heard that suggested a 2080 is good value.

        • +1

This card is equivalent to cards sold for $200 more, so yeah, there is some value there.

Let's take a look back at the 1080 launch, shall we?

          https://www.pcauthority.com.au/news/more-gtx-1080s-appear-in…

Those were pissy blower cards at default clocks, and for the record, the base MSRP for the 1080 in the US (pre-tax) was $600 at launch.

  • +1

I don't see good value in the new cards yet. Actual performance for current and upcoming games won't change much over a 1080ti. I'm upgrading but to a second hand 1070 ti which is pretty close again to a 1080 ti.

80% performance for less than half the price

  • if 2080 is on par with 1080ti wouldn't it make sense to pay a few 100's extra for the future proofness, given increase adoption of rt and dpss technologies looking forward?

    • First gen tech never ages well if it is already struggling to perform with the tech turned on.

Inevitably only new games are updated for the new tech too. And because the tech isn't mature, framerates will always feel too low with the new tech turned on. This is especially true with future games, which will require even more gpu performance to maintain decent framerates.

Next gen for rtx series will be pretty decent though. But to me, this is a skip generation, unless you can afford the 2080ti (for decent ray tracing performance).

edit : DLSS could be a boon though. Still waiting on test results that show how good this might be.

the 8gb vram kills 2080..might as well buy 2080ti.

  • WTH..back in the 900 series times like the 980Ti, Prices were decent.
If you were building a PC..the top end gfx will set you back ~800 and that was massive!

Since the 10series and 20series..you're now looking at $2,000.
    Not worth it.
