  • Anyone know if the movie and TV streams still work?

    • What ones?

      • +1

        Netflix, Stan, SBSondemand, …

        • Netflix still does. Used it yesterday. Not sure about the others

        • Netflix and Stan last time i looked not sure who still uses it

    • Only Kodi, think all the other ones are finished

      • What do you mean 'all the other ones are finished'?? I have Netflix, Stan, Channel 7, Channel 10, Kodi & Plex all installed. I've also sideloaded ABC iView and Foxtel Now which both work perfectly.

        • Of course Netflix Stan etc are still working, you pay for it derrr and they make money. I take it he's talking about terrarium etc.

  • What sorts of channels do we get? Out of those 3000+ channels?

  • does it come with browser or can we download and install browser on it?

    • +1

There are a couple of google play browsers that can be installed. But the good ones will have to be sideliaded. You also need to install other apps if you want shortcuts for sudeloaded apps on the home screen. Bit fiddly

        • Sideloaded

    • I'm using Chrome, but you need a wireless or BT keyboard.

      • but how can you install chrome onto xiaomi mi?

  • Did they fix power button on the remote?

    • +4

The power button is fine. It's the crap firmware update that makes the box unusable. I often have to unplug and plug in the power cable to turn on the box.

      • I thought it was just me with a dodgy one… Good to know its not

      • as per last deal I did the developer settings change and don't get that problem anymore

        • what did you change?

        • Yeh? Please share cos I’ve been trying to find out too.

        • What's this change?

  • What channels can u watch in this box?

    • Do you know much abt Android TV? Suggest you look it up

  • is it just a bit of software that makes it different to a chromecast? can I / my granpa stream our desktops via this ?

    • +1

It has chromecast built in. but it also has android so you can install netflix, youtube, kodi etc on it and stream videos directly from the internet

      • +1

So, I assume you can install Plex?
How's Plex performing on this device? Any experience?

        • +1

Have Kodi & Plex installed, both running from networked NAS and performs well.

        • +1 for plex running well on 3 of these. 1 for me at home and 2 at my parents house. I wish they shipped with an AU/CN plug instead of the EU plug and a crappy adapter if your lucky

  • +1

Stay away from this unit, it has turned to absolute shit since the Oreo update and Xiaomi still haven't fixed MANY of the issues the update created.

My own unit no longer automatically connects to any access point without being manually selected in the settings and it refuses to 'wake' after idling meaning i I need to switch it off/on at the wall for her to fire back up.

You can read more about the ongoing issues here: https://xiaomi.eu/community/forums/xiaomi-mi-box-mi-tv-mi-pr…

    • +1

Yup, that 'wake after idling' spontaneous issue is annoying.
You never know if this time it will work, or you need to disconnect from the mains.

    • +2

They pulled the update though. Mine doesn't show it anymore, and happily running Android 6.

      • I'm also happily on Android 6. Before this my last media box was a Western Digital wdtv, this is miles better.

    • With the exception of the wake issue (not really that huge of a deal) my MiBox running Oreo has been flawless. I'm starting to wonder if there are actual differences in the Mi Box 3 hardware builds with some having issues and others having next to none on Oreo

    • My 3 units have been great, 2 have been hit with the no wake after idle issue. One i set a screensaver for it and set it to never idle, seems to be ok now, another has had an update since and no longer is doing it. The third never had the issue.

  • Can we not do the update and leave it at Android 6? Or the unit will automatically force the update?

    • No forced updates.
And it is possible to revert to Marshmallow using ADB.

Oreo works OK for me now, so I've not bothered.

For people asking about Kodi, there are better and cheaper options with LibreElec.

  • You can ignore the update

    • +1

Mine updated itself overnight one day. I turned it on one morning and the UI was all different and it started doing that stupid freeze where the remote won't wake it up and it has to be powered off from the mains.

      • +2

I see there is a "stay awake" setting in the developer options. It only uses a couple of watts extra.

  • is there any YouTube app for these as the one on Xbox is really slow

    • Yes there is. Works well.

  • Looking at buying this one, but unsure about the difference with other models. What's the difference between this, 3C, 4C and 3S? I can't find much information about it.

Also, can this run on a TV for 24/7? Probably only displaying a a website on a 720/1080p TV.

    • +1

There are some models that are meant for the Chinese market and they won't run Netflix HD. This is the international version.

There is a new version 4 coming out but the only difference is the remote, which has one extra button from what I remember.

      Yes, 24/7, 1080p and I think 4k too.

  • Anyone know how long does gearbest takes in delivery nowadays? It used to take like 5weeks for me sometimes 6.

    • Well I paid for min on 12th and it still doesn't seem to have left their warehouse. Won't be buying from this mob again.

  • Any recommendations on a keyboard mouse combo for this?

  • Logitech k400 is my choice

  • Dollar looking a bit healthier Now US$55.99 = AU$76.92 :)

  • Now down to $52.99US 1000 Units AU~$73.43

  • I just installed an update which appeared on my unit today. I don't know if it fixes the wifi horror, I converted to USB ethernet and powerline adapters a few weeks ago, but hopefully it does, and the power button issue too. Maybe someone else can confirm?
