Can you post the full catalogue?

How do these compare to the Sony WH-1000XM3???

      I'll see myself out lol.

  • +3

These headphones are fantastic value. They are well made, have good battery life, sound quality is decent if not outstanding, and the noise cancellation works really well. My wife and I fought over my pair on plane flights before I bought her a set of her own. They fold up into a semi-rigid case, although it's not super compact.

    • +2

I've been seeing these cans every year. I've even handled one. Yep, I agree about the build quality feeling pretty darn ok, especially if you consider it's price point. The only reason I haven't bought one is because I couldn't justify another headset. So can't share my opinion on how it performs.

On an unrelated note, I've had luggage scales (not the one's in the catalog) for many years now. When I first bought it, the wife was questioning the utility of such a gadget. After the very first flight booking after having the scale, the question NEVER EVER popped up again. It get's a LOT of use, both for us and our frequent visitors.

      • +1 scales get more use than any other Aldi product I've bought

      • noise cancelling works well with fan of my aircon, but pretty much does't work at all for traffic noise when walking along a busy road. It also lacks physical noise reduction abilities, such as the ear cups restricting sound. It means you got to turn them up so loud you risk hearing damage, especially for podcasts, so wasn't suitable for my use

My wife and I fought over my pair on plane flights

Violence against women. Australia says no.

      • +7

Is it ok over international waters?

      • Women never lie so he did it.

      • What about violence against men? Is that alright?

        • Try it and find out

        • +1

Apparently it is, according to feminists

          • +5

            @montorola: Yep.

They really do not want equal rights.

They want more rights than males.

Hell, there is a reason that suicide is higher among males.

            or

That all males are viewed as predators.

            • -3

@Atazoth616: What's life like in this deluded version of reality you've constructed?
Maybe you should've done more research before you swallowed all those red pills, clearly they've had some serious side-effects

              • +2

@WinstonWithAY: I have never seen the red pill.

But, is it a delusion that male suicides outnumber female suicides rates 3 to 1?

                or

Is it a delusion that are seen as sexual predators and are not discriminated against as a result?

Hell, I have heard women state that they would never send a child to daycare if that daycare was owned by a male.

What would you call that, if not sexist?

Please understand that I am not saying that women should not push for equality.

Rather, that inequality exists for both females and males; and that both sexist need to work together to fix these gaps.

In the end, is addressing the gender gaps between two sexes not a better idea than addressing gender gaps for one sex?

                • @Atazoth616:

male suicides outnumber female suicides rates 3 to 1?

                  Wow, I didn't know that! https://afsp.org/about-suicide/suicide-statistics/

Hell, I have heard women state that they would never send a child to daycare if that daycare was owned by a male.
What would you call that, if not sexist?

Yeah I remember when I was trying to get my first job, being rejected for cleaning positions because they wanted a woman, it sucked lol. At least they told me the truth though.

              • @WinstonWithAY: Read Table 3.1
                http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/Products/3309.0~2010…

Tell me which suicide rate is higher, male or female?

      • +2

Let me re-phrase that, before I get accused of domestic abuse….I bought them, I brought them along and my wife took them off me and left me with her crappy earbuds. You know, the kind of 'compromise' that's common in marriage…. :-)

The standard cable is uses a removable 3.5mm female audio jack in the ear-cup, so I have since converted mine to BT with a cheap adaptor from eBay.

  • +1

Are the headphones wireless. If these are then they are I great deal

    • +3

I would actually say that it would be a worser deal if they were wireless.

Because if they were wireless, they would have had spent a large portion of the budget on the wireless function and therefore the sound quality, build quality etc. would have been less invested in.

  • +18

Finally, noise-cancelling headphones on OzB that are in my price-range!!

    • I thought you like the sound of napalm in the morning?

  • These are not BT headphones right?

    • Yes.

    • +4

You want to hear boy oh boy wowee?

  • +3

    Have used them
    Wired
    No blue tooth
    Comes with airline adaptor
    Good value for money

My only gripe is that my ears start hurting after on hour. Which means on a long haul flight I have to take rest breaks. Maybe it is my funny shaped ears 😊

  • how do you get the items and prices if the catalogue is not out yet?

    • +1

The Aldi here always has the new catalogues out on a Tuesday.

Is the travel adapter kit any good? Missed out on them last time and need something for an upcoming trip early next year.

    • Is the travel adapter kit any good?

Good but a bit heavy/ bulky
It adds to your 7kg luggage allowance if you plan to take it along with your hand baggage

      • +1

Looking at the image this is the same one i've passed on a few times. It's cheap enough for what it is but don't bother with the usb ports - if its the same one they have like 2 amps shared among the 4 - see what the peak individual and parallel amperage is and the build quality feels a bit dicey (but a lot of adaptors have this in common who knows it could be great).

I have the belkin international which does the same thing (albeit with only 2 usb ports also sharing 2.4A each), and the connected equipment warranty against surge that comes with their surge protection. It tripped quite a few times in various euro countries with ~240V but no ground circuits and everything was safe. It is significantly smaller in volume (probably the smallest it could be to still do the job with good surge protection) but likely heavier.

Granted i paid ~$45 AUD for the belkin but its been great so far - you can get it shipped for $48 rn on ebay.

If you wanted USB only I would recommend the gorilla power 4 usb international adaptor - I have this one too and its available on catch atm for $30+shipping. True 6.8A for 2 fixed 2.4A ports and 2 fixed 1A ports.

Kogan also have an international6.8A 4 usb adaptor previously for $4! The build quality is bloody awful though it gets the job done and is very light.

If I had to take only 1 on a trip I take the belkin - the surge protection and protected equipment warranty, build quality and AUS and USB ports is great for charging phone, noise cancelling headphones/powerbank + camera batteries and laptop.

        • I actually have the Gorilla power adapter you linked, I bought it years ago just to use as a power brick and I have no idea where I've put the other plugs… So annoying but I haven't been able to find them anywhere.

    • Xiaomi power strip FTW

  • +1

Ive used these, i thought they were great… Then i bought parrot zik from catch at 99 bucks, and they absolutely blew them out of the water. These sound a lot better with anc on, a bit flat with just aux cable. 40 bucks though, decent enough. Annoyingly aldi sell these and Bluetooth headphones. Cant be that much effort to combine them.

    • Cant be that much effort to combine them.

For sure, but then there's one less product to sell = less profits

Active noise cancellation up to 20dB

That's being surprisingly honest. For comparison, Sony WH-1000XM3 achieves 30 dB of attenuation and the Bose QC 20/25/35 achieve around 25 dB. But remember, that's a logarithmic scale.
If they can really achieve 20 dB of attenuation, that's about on par with Audio-Technica cans. Not bad for the price.

    • QC35's achieve around 32dB of noise cancellation of white, pink and brown noise in a review conducted by a very thorough audio website with detailed graphs (can't find link).
That's considerably better than an unverified claim of "up to" 20dB.

      • I got those numbers from RTINGS.com (link).

        QC 35: -25.16 dB
        QC 35 II: -27.08 dB

As you say, the 20 dB claimed by Aldi is unverified. They probably performed some kind of testing to make a claim like that though.

        • Up to implies the top number over a range of frequencies, not the median/average etc.

        • For comparison, decent basic aviation headsets have 24 db of passive attenuation. It takes terrible light aircraft noise and make it fine. 20 is a lot less and 27 is a lot more. These Aldi things are surprisingly handy on jet flights but they would be poor in a Cessna.

          • @Hogey 74: 24dB passive, that's before you then add active on top.

      • +1

Was thinking the same thing. I think my passive DT770 cancel up to 20db as well, just by blocking my ears!

    • Depends on which Audio-Technica. ANC9's can block 30 dB

  • picked last year model for $15 last week , its awesome , noise cancelling doesnt use a mic but boosts low frequency - i think .

Cant use in vic metro , it makes a cracking noise with ANC

  • +1

Need some hearing protection when using my petrol mower. Will these be any good?

    • +1

You can only try them, but for protection I'd suggest cheap Bunning s ones. They muffle a lot of sound passively and you can put on ear buds under them if ur keen. These thing are great for flying for the money but they're just sitting on ur ears instead of surrounding them.

  • If these are the type depicted I will buy to replace an identical looking pair I bought in July 2017 that no longer has both line-in channels working.

I won't buy the previous model offered several months ago (smaller, with oval speakers) as those are on-ear. They block out less noise and fall off my ears easier. On the plus side the this model boosts the audio to compensate for the ANC.

  • I heard from a die hard ALDI shopper that those noise cancelling headphones are better than anything Sony and Bose do. He can't be wrong right?

    • +7

I wouldn't argue with a die hard ALDI shopper.

      • +1

For one thing, he/she will have a lot more money and will be able to afford more bikies.

  • Hey for jet travel these are surprisingly handy head phones. They're tuned for jet engines and other similar constant noises and they're quite sturdy for throwing in bags etc. I bought some Phillips via office works for $150 and gave my bauhns to someone flying os. The Phillips have better fidelity etc but they're not as sturdy. I reckon these bauhns are kind of perfect since they give good sound during flights and aren't too expensive if you lose or kill them.

  • Now im wondering if i should've got those Taotronics NC headphones a few days back in that other deal. Not sure which deal is better?

    • +2

This one's wired. Most TaoTronics ones are wireless but comes with 3.5mm jack if out of battery to use as wired. I jumped on the TaoTronics.

    • The taotronics deal is better, but you'll have to wait for xev you post another one.

  • in 11days but i'm flying out next week :(
