Been on about 400 hundred domestic and international flights and never had a flight delayed. This is a waste of everyones' time!

You should try flying Tiger Air sometime, you'd probably be able to claim this every 5th flight.

      • Yea .. never tried the low cost airlines .. just qantas, singapore airlines, emirates.

        • not tempted by the lower prices?

        • Low cost, yeah, right. A year ago Qantas could not bring me to the USA in 2 days, day 1 cancelled cbr-syd, day 2 cancelled syd-lax, both times it was delayed by 2+ hours and then moved to the next day.

      • i'm finally flying jetstar back.. hoping it has a smidge of qantas in it as i really need to get back that day…. so fingers crossed it isn't my first time experiencing a major delay!

Been on about 400 hundred domestic and international flights and never had a flight delayed.

Lucky you! I don't fly that frequently and have had at least 3 flights delayed by at least 2 hours, and have had friends who have been delayed a number of times.

The worst was when a friend got stuck on the tarmac for two hours when the preflight check found a tyre needed to be replaced. This deal wouldn't have helped though, he couldn't leave the plane!

      • I don't fly that frequently .. but a return trip to Europe is 4 flights .. then add on some years depending on your age ;P .. living overseas for a while … not too hard to get to 400 flights at a rough guess … maybe 10-15 flights/yr.

    • @matt-ozb. I had similar thoughts. Excited at first but then can't remember ever being delayed >2 hours. So can't see this being used very often.

Just glad to have a Diners Club card (a real dinosaur) which gives free lounge access. Would make more use of that. Just have to find ones that will accept the kids for free.

  • So you can only register for flights up until the 15th Nov 2018? After that what is going to happen

    • I think that's referring to the unlimited flights. I assume it'll go back to the 2-flight limit after that.

  • From what I read it says pases for you and 4 guests so in total we can claim up to 5 passes

the service is avaliable to the main passenger (cardholder) and up to 4 travel companions on the same flight.

Unfortunately No passes from Perth airport…:(

    • doh! melb back to perth for example?

  • Anyone taking flights from Perth registered successfully??

Not working for me. Little box goes blank after entering CC number.

    • Ok, got it to work today. It even worked using my 28°MC "account" number rather than my CC number. Registered for flights to/from NZ.

"It seems we are experiencing a problem at the moment. Please try again later."

after click submit and always show that to me… anyone the same?

    • same for me, tried with both my there and back flight

  • Does the flight have to be paid for via 28D?

    • Yes, but maybe no.

  • can't seem to register keeps getting some an error and asked to try again later

  • It says your passes will be SMS'ed to you. If you're already overseas using a foreign sim, I can't seeing this being that beneficial.

    • In places your carrier lets you roam, you can generally receive sms for free.

      • Are there actually countries where you get charged to receive SMSes while roaming?

        • The only place I would be unsure about is the USA, since its normal to get charged to receive sms there.

          • @samfisher5986: Hmm, the last two times I roamed there, I didn't get charged for receiving SMSes. I always thought receiving SMSes was free everywhere. Even receiving SMSes when I "roam" onto the Iridium satellite network is free with my regular Telstra sim.

        • Never heard of being charged to receive SMS. Didn't know it happens in the US

    • If you're already overseas using a foreign sim, I can't seeing this being that beneficial.

Am I missing something here? If your flight is delayed and you're expecting an SMS, can't you just put your local sim back in? You're not expecting calls on your foreign SIM are you?

And if there's no airport wifi, surely you can live for a short while without data.

The issue is not all carriers even have the option of roaming (even if you're willing to pay). The most prominent example is probably Kogan mobile.

And if there's no airport wifi, surely you can live for a short while without data.

I don't disagree personally, but this is a tough ask for many people in the modern day and age :P

Oh that's true, forgot about that. MC should add an email option to cover all bases then. It'd probably be cheaper for them too.

  • Hmmm, so what if the flight is cancelled (ie not delayed) and you had to re-book to a later domestic flight?

EG. today's 9.30am MEL-SYD flight was cancelled and people were re-booked on the 10.30am flight. They had the option to select a later flight if they wanted (ie to meet the 2 hour+ criteria), would they qualify for this?

I had the card for years…
This few weeks, it's such a disappointment with regards to their customer service from onLine chat and call centre when I apply for a extra cardholder.

Email received and called to them to confirm…

Yet to find out a week later when I online chat and call them to find out they know and receive nothing about it.

I am a furious Mo..Fu….And went the distance to finally prove they are wrong.

End of story, their CS is atrocious, and after I receive the card, I will call up to Cancel all my other 4 cards.

    Useless.

Yes, the promo and some benefit they bring us is great, but for the service I received, I feel they can't be (profanity) to help me out….

So why should I keep using it.

Negging is not really appropriate as its not relevant.

      Think of it this way

You can't have a 100% success rate with customer service.

Does that mean 100% of ozbargain deals should have negative votes?

A restaurant can't serve food without an occasional mistake. Should we just ban all restaurants from ozbargain because they are not perfect?

Whats worse is you didn't actually lose anything in this situation, it was just a customer service mistake which literally every company has.

      • -3

Out of four attempts with four diff staff all saying the same thing, making same mistake, there is something wrong then.

        • Nope you've just a bad experience.

You need to take some responsibility instead of crying about it on the internet.

  • Registered my 28 degrees yesterday for a flight and it worked. Today the system keep saying "Please check that you have entered an eligible Mastercard card number." anyone with the same issue?

28 degrees does come with travel insurance

Here is my experience with an actual delayed flight:

When this scheme was announced, I registered my upcoming flights, not expecting much. On 23 Nov my QF flight BNE-MEL was delayed 2.5 hrs. I duly got the SMS and email which the scheme described. The SMS has a code and the email has an attached pdf file which contains a QR code type image. So I can confirm that the IT side of this scheme works as advertised.

However making it work in practice is another matter. The email link told me that Graze Bar and Grill in the Qantas domestic terminal was part of the scheme. In fact Graze was very near the departure gate where I was sitting when I received the notification SMS. I went over to discuss using the scheme, looking forward to a free AUD36 food and drink (and same for my wife). The counter staff knew nothing about the scheme. One phoned someone, who told the caller that the scheme only worked in the international terminal. This despite the doco being clear that the domestic terminal was in the scheme. So no free feed for me.

So the staff at these "lounges" need to be educated about this scheme. It would be useful to have something printed about the scheme to show the counter staff. Plus I suspect the staff will not be very interested in the complexities of a scheme they have never heard of, when there are paying customers lined up with simple orders.

I'll send this story to 28degrees/Mastercard, in the hope they can improve implementation.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully in time, the problems will be ironed out. Perhaps they will compensate you the AUD36 you should have gotten? No harm in asking :-)

    • Plus I suspect the staff will not be very interested in the complexities of a scheme they have never heard of, when there are paying customers lined up with simple orders.

From their eyes, you're also a paying customer. They'll just be paid by the insurance company instead of by an individual (you).

You're only worth "less" if they think other customer's bills typically end up being more than someone who is covered by the insurance.

  • Funnily enough my morning flight from MEL to ADE was delayed 2 hours but I do not have a 28 degrees card.
