Free Airport Lounge Passes or $36 off Meals PP for You & 1-3 Guests Per Card for Delayed Flights [Eligible Mastercard Holders]

2540

Mastercard is offering free lounge access for yourself and a guest when your flight is delayed for 2 hours or more. Useful for those cardholders who don't get lounge access included OR have already used up your allocation of lounge passes. You get 2 registrations per card.

This is supposed to be for people who have purchased their ticket with a participating Mastercard however in reality this is impossible to actually be verified. You'll need a Mastercard that is a Platinum, World or World Elite. This includes Qantas Cash Cards and Cash Passports both which are free to obtain as well as other OzBargainer favourites like 28 Degrees.

Lounge Finder which has 850 lounges worldwide. - Seems to be sharing the same program with Priority Pass Holders. - Usually this means entry into a lounge for places like Darwin or Cairns. However for Melbourne, it isn't a lounge but you can get $36 off your meal per person at Urban Provodore, Bar Pulpo by MoVida, or Cafe Vue. Same with Sydney and Brisbane which gets you either a meal or lounge entry.

Not many flight delays in Australia (comparatively) however if you're travelling within the US, almost all flights are delayed especially during peak times and bad weather.

FAQ

  • Flights that are cancelled or rescheduled more than 24 hours away don't qualify.
  • Maximum 2 registrations per card until November 15, 2018. So every flight you register counts towards the total whether or not the flight is late so choose wisely or use other cards for other flights. E.G. Partner registers 2 flights, You register 2, etc.
  • You'll receive an SMS with a PDF attachment (QR code I think) to get you into the lounge.
  • The minimum 2-hour delay can be announced in one go, or cumulative from a series of shorter delays.
  • The service uses Flightstats to get the delays, so your flight and any delays are dependent on their info. However, they are generally pretty accurate. Most delayed locations/flights/airlines: Hello Melbourne & Jetstar

UPDATE:

  • Works with: Qantas Cash, Cash Passport, 28 Degrees Card, Bankwest Mastercard World, CBA Diamond Awards Mastercard, Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard Platinum, Coles Prepaid Reloadable Platinum MasterCard, ANZ Platinum MasterCard
  • Doesn't Work with: Macquarie Mastercard Platinum Debit, Bankwest Platinum Zero, Coles Mastercard, Bankwest Qantas Platinum, HSBC Premier World MasterCard, , Bankwest Qantas Platinum, Qantas Money Premier, Bankwest Platinum, CBA Platinum, ME Bank Mastercard
  • Reports of Working/Not Working: Westpac Altitude Black, Coles Rewards Mastercard

Mastercard could've just written "Free Lounge Access when Flying with Tiger"

    • +3

Lol would have come in handy during my 3hr tiger delay last week

      • +1

Had a 18hr delay Sunshine Coast-Melbourne on Tiger once. They rescheduled the flight to 2am!

    • +1

      or flying to Canberra

  • +4

in reality this is impossible to actually be verified.

How is it impossible? They could ask for the invoice and statement showing the matching amounts? Or do you mean they just won't enforce it?

    • Yeah, I agree. Same for travel insurance, I am pretty sure they can verify whether you purchased the ticket using the credit card, though they may not bother as much for lounge access, and may not be able to verify it before issuing the lounge pass or food credit.

    • How could they expect you to get this info when you're away from home, maybe with no computer access etc?

      • Improbable =/= Impossible.

        • They can't expect you to be able to do it though, or hardly anyone would be able to claim it.

        • @Quantumcat:

So meaning they just don't enforce it but if they really wanted to, they can. If they can, then it's not impossible.

        • @ronnknee: They could also ask you to do a handstand for five minutes while singing the Russian national anthem

        • @Quantumcat:

          You're just being silly now.

For the sake of argument, while that's extremely unreasonable and unlikely, it's not impossible.

        • @ronnknee: I think it's impossible in the sense that the business just wouldn't do that

  • Will this work with the Macquarie Mastercard Platinum Debit?

    • Enter your number in to see if it accepts it. I tried with Bankwest Debit and that failed. Qantas Cash was accepted.

    • +4

      Negative, already tried it.

  • "Please check that you have entered an eligible Mastercard card number."

Not a winner…. tried Bankwest Platinum.

    Wonder what makes you eligible.
Should this be tagged as "targetted"?

    • +2

It's not targeted, it just works with certain kinds of cards. So I'd say that the Bankwest World would work but as that has unlimited PP lounges kind of pointless. Which Platinum card do you have (More or Breeze etc.)?

      • +1

Bankwest Platinum Zero (because I'm an Ozbargainer and I will NOT pay fees :) )

        • Doesn't appear to work with the Bankwest Qantas Platinum either.

      • Hi Neil,

Bankwest World Master has moved to Lounge Key. Which is far superior to the Priority Pass BS. You can take upto 6 people with you in the lounge. However, you need to register for the first time with Lounge Key.

        • Ah cool. I get 2 PP visits with my AMEX but can't bring in any guests so useless as I only fly with my wife. This $36 off meals is cool though. Lounge Key and Priority Pass are the same lounges/meal deductions right?

  • +1

Didnt work with Bankwest Zero platinum

  • +6

28 degrees card worked! Just registered two flights.

    • Great to know this card works

  • +3

You can register at any time once a flight has been scheduled (typically up to 364 days in advance) and no later than six hours prior to the flight’s scheduled departure

Useful if you know 6 hours in advance that your flight will be delayed, which (of course) doesn't happen very often

  • Bankwest Mastercard World works.

  • Didn’t work with my Coles ‘free’ Mastercard. Targeted to some Mastercards only. :(

    • +1

I have the Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard (platinum) and it worked fine.

  • +3

Works with CBA diamond awards mastercard.

  • +3

Mastercard® has provided each cardholder with a maximum of two registrations per eligible card up to 15 November 2018. All flights must be registered by 15 November 2018.

cancellation and registration less than 6 hours prior to the flight’s scheduled departure will not be allowed.

So unless you know about a flight delay 6 hours before, it's not very useful.

    • +3

If you know more that 6 hours before then better to stay at home or spend more time at your destination than in a lounge. However if you are already in an airport, better in a lounge OR get free meals then not.

  • Did the site get OzB'd? I put my card number in and now it's saying 'service unavailable'.

    • +4

milk the cow till it's dead; the OzB way!

  • What's the best way to delay my flight without getting arrested?

    • +1

      Become a pilot.

    • +1

Eat the dirtiest street food you can find (century eggs if you can find them) and then unleash gaseous hell once you get on the plane. They will be forced to get everyone off and delay the flight until they find the source of the gas leak.

      • or just leave a suspicious brown trail from the seat to the loo. Doesn't have to be 'the real deal'

    • +2

ask your friend to loiter near the boarding gate with a towel/rag on their head carrying a suspicious object

      • black bowling ball with a "fuse" attached to the hole?

  • -7

    Step 1: Bomb scare
    Step 2: …
    Step 3: Profit

    • you forgot step 2: arrested and thrown off the plane

      • +4

Step 4: Free lounge access in prison

    • +2

They will evacuate the lounge too, you will still end up in the carpark with everyone else until you get arrested.

  • Do we just enter the mastercard number? After that I did not receive any notification or anything that the registration was success?

    • Same here - tried Chrome and Safari - nothing

      • Same

        • +1

Okay on Safari it eventually came back after a really long time to another screen where it asks for your mobile number.

Entered that and eventually it comes back and says details not recognised. My card is on the list above and of course I've entered the correct mobile number.

And there's no way to go back and enter a new card number now - it keeps going back to the page to enter your mobile.

Looks like the web page is a POS.

        • Yeah Chrome didn't work for me. i used Edge and it worked.

  • Attitude Altitude Black ;)

Great deal though!! Great card also. Now just to find an airline that is constantly delayed…

  • "Details not recognised. Please try again, or contact customer service for assistance."
This is after entering a Westpac Altitude Black card number and after entering my mobile.

    • See above

      • Accepted registration of my Westpac Altitude Black card, but will not accept either of my mobile numbers.

Not sure what "See above" refers to - if this is not an acceptable card, perhaps Neil (OP) should remove reference to it at the end of the 2nd para in his OP.

        • Perhaps needs a Westpac Attitude Black card?
And be a graduate Investment Analyst

        • OK, updated. It could be that their site is getting overloaded. Best bet is for those who have gotten through the first step to try again tomorrow when it's not getting hammered.

        • It means see my posting/thread just above this one.

  • works with Coles Prepaid Reloadable Platinum MasterCard but not HSBC Premier World MasterCard :(

edit: after submitting mobile number, also received error: "Details not recognised. Please try again, or contact customer service for assistance."

However for Melbourne, it isn't a lounge but you can get $36 off your meal per person at Urban Provodore, Bar Pulpo by MoVida, or Cafe Vue. Same with Sydney and Brisbane which gets you either a meal or lounge entry.

thanks - didn't know about this for Priority Pass :)

don't forget £18 (~$29) Entry to 900+ Airport Lounges Worldwide @ Dragon Pass & The Telegraph (£14.75-£16 via Regus)

  • lol

  • +1

    can it be a spam?

    • I guess it's s spam at the end it's different with the official website.

    • Not sure if they offer Spam in the lounge.

  • +2

At the bottom of the website it says

©2018 - MASTERCARD FLIGHT DELAY PASS

A SERVICE PROVIDED BY COLLINSON GROUP

I read that as "Collision Group" which is a bit of a worry

    • Guess it's not a real website

    • Can you fix it?

  • Do REX flights qualify?

  • +3

    Doesn't work with CBA Platinum

    • Second that - this, and CBA's devaluation of points makes CBA's platinum MasterCard truly useless.

      • Third that. Just tried and contacted them.. blah.

    • This is ridiculous, the CBA platinum costs more than the ANZ platinum card

  • +2

Never let it be said that I'm paranoid, but what a great way to collect credit card numbers. I set up a website and people just entered their whole credit card number. I've been told "Details not recognised. Please try again, or contact customer service for assistance." and I'm concerned this isn't really Mastercard although any card cloner would probably spend less than I do so perhaps it's a savings scheme!

    • +1

This looks legit, its getting re-directed from https://www1.mastercard.com/content/platinum/ap/en/features-…
Having said that, I too see 'Details not recognised. Please try again, or contact customer service for assistance.' error upon providing mobile no. & hitting Continue
For 'Details not recognised ..' error - In order to use your registration entitlements of a different eligible card, please close your browser window (not just the tab) completely and restart a new session. Navigate to the Mastercard Flight Delay Pass website http://www.mastercard.com/flightdelaypass again and key in the new card number you wish to use for the registration.

    • +3

You are paranoid - there, it's said.

  • Doesnt work with Bankwest Platinum

  • Doesn't work with Bankwest Qantas Platinum or Qantas Money Premier

  • Reconfirming it worked for Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard (Platinum).

Had to use my office landline number to get verified. You can get yours from your online coles mastercard profile.

  • Doesn't seem to be working on Qantas Cash?

    • Or is it because I am already Qantas Platinum with lounge access anyway?

    • It did for me

  • It actually works for Altitude Black. Just tried then

  • What is the purpose of the mobile number?
Is it to confirm your card account against the mobile number you have registered against that card?
Or is it to send you an SMS when your flight is delayed? - which may be not so good when using a local SIM overseas.

    • They send you an SMS plus I think also an email with a QR code if your flight is delayed.

  • worked with Coles rewards mastercard

    • I have a Coles Mastercard and it denied me

      • is that the $89 annual fee coles mastercard? both my card & my husband card are fine~ work on IE with long loading but not firefox.

  • Doesn't work with CBA Platinum Awards CC

  • Tried 2 cards - "Please check that you have entered an eligible Mastercard card number"

  • +2

@Jackspratt - "Accepted registration of my Westpac Altitude Black card, but will not accept either of my mobile numbers."
It accepted my Westpac Altitude Black card just now AND accepted mobile. I suspect that you entered +61 04xx xxxxxx. If so, then you need to drop the 0 .

    • Yep - ditto.

      Now confirmed.

  • I tried both my CBA and ME Bank Mastercards - no dice.

  • nothing happens after entering card number?

  • I used my Westpac Black MC and it worked

    • Is that the Altitude Black?

      • Yep

  • Google Flights will now predict airline delays – before the airlines do (apparently)
