[OzBargain 12th Birthday] Sydney City Meetup - Thur 22 Nov 6:30PM at Pizza Autentico Surry Hills. Please RSVP

Meetup is happening:

Pizza/pasta buffet would be $25pp for under 25 people, otherwise $35pp. Please RSVP using the poll below so we know how many people are coming. OzBargain will foot the bill :)

Original Post: Other threads:

Scotty is looking into a possible Sydney CBD event in early December, however I thought it might be nice to see if there was sufficient interest for something else, for those of us who live near/find it easier to travel to the city!

As the North Shore meetup is looking at Tuesdays mainly, perhaps it would be good to look at later days in the week? Say, Wednesday through to Sunday.

I was thinking that Pizza Autentico might be a good venue to look at if we can get 20 or more people; nice Italian food, all you can eat (ideally on OzBargain's dime ;) ), they're good for bigger group bookings and it's 200m from Museum Station. They're only open for dinner most days but have quite a good happy hour.

What are your thoughts?

  • Are you interested in something in the city in mid to late November?

  • Any preferences regarding venue?

  • Weekday dinner, weekend lunch or dinner?

  • Specific date?

If you could vote in the poll that would be awesome too to get a ballpark idea around numbers!

Edit: Tentative details are up for Thursday 22 November 6:30pm at Pizza Autentico! See the post below.

    No weekdays lunch?

    • I wasn't sure if that would exclude too many people who work regular hours, probably should have included it as a poll option though. Let us know in the comments if weekday lunch is preferable

      Edit: option now added!

  • +2

If it's on a Sunday you might attract OzBargainers from further afield with the cheap capped train fare.

    • $2.70 travel, free meal and mingling with fellow OzBargainers, what's not to like? :)

      • +13

        what's not to like?

the mingling with fellow OzBargainers part ;)

  • +1

I voted weekday dinner like last year since people usually only get 1 hour lunch breaks and usually don't want to spend time commuting to the CBD and back during weekends.

  • +1

Scotty is looking into a possible Sydney CBD event in early December

Latest update from the co-sponsor — likely the last week of November, limited to 40-50 OzBargainers.

    • Thanks for that Scotty! Should we continue exploring this as an option?

      • I don't mind. I doubt we'll have all you can eat pizza with ShopBack :)

  • +1

ok weekday dinner for me too.
somewhere near train station would be good. a place where the musics arent too loud.

  • +1

if it's in November, the venue must accept Amex ;)

    • +1

No need. All paid by ozb anyway.

      • I'm sure OzB has an Amex too…

  • if the shopback event is late november, might make sense for this to be sometime in the first half of november?

    • -1

Gee again, ozb can afford this event without worrying any discounts or deals.

      • I’m just suggesting the date be a bit spread out from the other CBD event being planned. Not sure why you’re implying it has anything to do with budgets but ok.

    • If you have to tell me your my friend your likely not

        • you're
    • It's possible, but leaves less time to organise and might be harder to book. Not sure if we have the 20+ attendees required at this point

  • +1

Seeing as the Weekday Dinner option appears to be overwhelmingly the most popular, let's go with that!

I feel like it would be good to book something that's at least two weeks in advance, so there's enough time for everyone to see the event, register their interest, and for us to book for the right numbers.

Regarding the venue I am still thinking Pizza Autentico having not received any other suggestions as it's close to the station, there will be an abundance of food (unlike some previous events from what I gather!), and it may be cheap/free after the OzBargain contribution. Note that if we have more than 24 people coming we may have to opt for the more expensive set menu ($35pp) which will necessitate a contribution per person.

I propose Thursday 22 November at 6:30pm as the date and time. Thursday seemed to work well last year; if lots of people have issues with a Thursday, make a comment and perhaps we can look at other options. Seems a bit easier to do it this way rather than have multiple days initially to choose from.

Please post below to tentatively confirm your availability for 6:30pm Thursday 22nd. I'll ask ask people to RSVP via PM prior to making the final booking.

    • Posting to tentatively confirm my availability.

there will be an abundance of food (unlike some previous events from what I gather!

For what it's worth I thought there was plenty of food at last year's CBD event.

      • Good to know! I just remembered reading an offhand comment about pizza disappearing before it hit the table or the like…

    • I am tenatively in, but will confirm closer to the date - always up for Pizza. That said, I am pretty good for any day around then so if people can't make the Thursday I'm good to move.

Lol at their happy hour calling a 400ml serve of beer HUGE. (for the record that's smaller than a schooner).

    • Same. Tentatively in for 6:30pm on Thursday

    • +1

So are we confirming the date/time & venue? If we are all set for

      • Thur 22 Nov 6:30PM
      • Pizza Autentico, Surry Hills

We can update the OP and I can change the poll into an RSVP tomorrow, with soft-cap at 24 people.

      • That would be great Scotty! Thank you for your help

        • 6pm please? People tend to come late if we set 630 people will come 7 so better put early time

          • @CyberMurning: I don't mind either, although I may not be able to make it in by 6pm. Not sure if there are other people working late or commuting

      • In!

    • Tentative yes.

      • I can't edit the post you responded to, but the final RSVP is open in the poll. Put down your vote when you know if you can make it!

    • Posting to tentatively confirm my availability :)

  • +2

5.30 or 6pm start is better, I'm in

    • Agree. Im in

  • Sign me up !

  • +5

I have updated the post and change the poll into an RSVP. For the people who are going — please vote "Yes I am going" in the poll. Please also note that it's a public poll so logged in users can see the list of people voted.

    • how to setup reminder like normal deals?

    • Great! Looking forward to it!

  • +1

    Will be there!

  • Just voted Yes for attending, thanks OZB !

  • I would like to attend

  • +2

I am setting the poll to expire a bit earlier (17 Nov 12AM) as we are already a little bit over the quota. Initially intended to be ~20 people and at 10:30PM there are 34 OzBargainers who have RSVP'ed.

I will need to get the exact number of people who are coming so I can make a booking either on Sunday or Monday. So if you have RSVP'ed but are not able to go, please Revoke your vote (there should be a revoke button at the bottom of the poll box). By Sunday night I'll assume those who are still on the list will turn up next Thursday evening, and I'll try to use that number to book the venue.

    • It might be a good idea to pin this comment to the top and, further, to PM each RSVPer.

Do you have any RSVP to turnout data from previous years?

      • +1

Stats from the Parramatta meetup (collected by lyl):

        • 30 RSVP (confirmed by voting on the poll)
        • 9 didn't turn up
        • 2 turned up when weren't on the RSVP list

I think that' the problem with free event — easy to sign up, and no penalty for not turning up, even when I sent everyone a message asking to revoke the vote if not coming.

        • Hmm… I'm agree if we have to pay small fees in advanced, non refundable, but we get something much much more higher in value on the event.

Nah, won't work because then everyone wants to come….

        • even when I sent everyone a message asking to revoke the vote if not coming.

Looking at my inbox, I have a confirmation from system for the 22/11/18 Party but not the 17/11/18 (Parramatta) one.

2/3 attendance is about what I would estimate for all the parties. If you put the word out that we were over 24 attendees and would need to make a $10 co-contribution, only 5 people may be interested. Then we'd be under the soft-cap and enter an unstable feedback loop.

          • @Scrooge McDuck: You are right. The reminder message was actually for this event rather than the Parramatta one. My mistake. We had 2 who revoked — let's see how many actually turned up on Thursday.

  • Is it gonna be awkward?

    • +6

Everyone will be from the internet. Hopefully that answers your question.

  • +13

I have made booking on Thur 22 Nov at 6:30PM for 33 Professionals. See you then!

  • Interested!

  • +5

Herp derp, guess who thought the dinner was tonight? At least I can confirm the venue can hold all of us.

  • +2

I just spoke with Johnny from the venue. He advised that he gives 10 % leeway for bookings. Under that, the full booking will be charged.

So if you really anticipate total attendance of 31 then you should revise the booking down to 28 to cover the range 25–31. You have until close tonight to amend the booking.

    • +2

It was initially 33 revised down to 31, which should gives us leeway to 28. But yeah I might email in to revise it (again).

  • I can't revoke but i doubt i will be back in time to make it.
I did vote for a weekend meet lol

    • +1

Revoke option is removed after the poll is expired. Nor can we change the booking now as it's less than 24 hours before the start of the event. Hopefully not too many people pulling out on the last minute.

      • +2

If anyone is reading this and is keen to come but missed out on the poll I would recommend rocking up anyway. (I'm almost certain at least one person will have to cancel due to work/family/transport issues.) I did that during last year's birthday celebrations and indeed a few people had pulled out last minute. (Thanks again @Jabberwocky for accommodating me last minute!)

        • +5

scotty should make the tag "probably bot" for those cancelling last minute :p

          • +7

@djprima: The mods did talk about this yesterday, add Black Badge "No Show'er" for those who RSVP'ed but didn't turn up.

            • +1

@scotty: I think that would be a more worthy black badge than then current duplicate posts one!

            • @scotty: Disable their account and charge them $35 to re-enable ;)

  • +2

    Been fasting all day ;)

    See you all there.

Rather fitting last supper before black friday sales

    • +1

Just trained legs and have only had some WPI, ready to carb up.

Might need some help up the stairs…

  • Do I need to get a code before I can come?

    • I will mark your name off. I will be wearing an ozbargain t-shirt.

  • +1

North shore trains are screwed ATM, probs gonna be late :(

  • +7

Great people and nice food, thanks Scotty, Tycn, and everyone else

    • +5

I concur. Big thanks to Tycn for the set up. Scotty did all celebrity photos haha. Company there was great too.

  • +7

Thanks to everyone who came! And we will be implementing some badges for those who RSVP but didn't turn up ;)

Also for those who have taken group photos — please send it to my email address [email protected]

    See you next week!

  • +5

Thanks again for a good night Scotty and was good to meet you all! Here's the group photo we took tonight. (Scotty, I've emailed you a full res copy of the photo.)

    • good low light quality camera.

      • +1

        Expert photographer.

      • +1

I brightened up the picture a little bit in Lightroom before posting it. (And thanks Scrooge for taking the picture!)

  • +6

It was lovely to meet you all! Thank you everyone for coming and Scotty for making it possible :)

    • Agree. Thanks again Scotty
