  • thanks!!!!

  • I recently got the ANZ travel adventures card which promises 80K velocity points after $1500 spend. I don't suppose anyone knows if those points are first delivered as the equivalent number of ANZ points so could be a chance of transferring with +30% through this deal? Probably wishful thinking!

    • +1

they will give you velocity points directly

    • -1

80k anz points to velocity conversion rate wouldn't be 1:1 anyway. So it's better this way.

      • +1

        2:1

    • +1

yeah its 2:1 for anz:velocity so don't wish for that ;)

    • I also got that 80k points deal, but I am curious as to how they know my velocity account details to send the points to, I don't believe I ever told them.
      Any idea?

      • +3

You need to call them and tell them.

      • I signed up to and rewards once the CC was activated. Then a couple days later I got an email with a reference number to claim the velocity points through the and rewards portal. Booked some flights overseas and a couple days later I got another email saying the velocity points would be credited within two months.

      • Call them. I signed up to this card about a year ago and got the 40,000 velocity points, they were credited pretty quickly to me after i met the minimum spend. great card - will do an ANZ rewards transfer to velocity for my and my girlfriend's cards this month :)

      • they will give you a code, then you use that code on a website and enter your velocity acc number

      • Ring them and give them your number. Ask to add it to your account

      • They send an email asking for your velocity number.

Got my 80k this week.. Took less than a month from receipt of card

      • Once the qualifying period has ended, you will receive a text with instructions on how to redeem

        • I actually found the promotion code in an email that I had to enter into the ANZ Rewards website and I have already been credited my points less than 90 days after getting my card.
For others wondering, check your emails.

I might hold off on this one considering they've historically done up to 50% bonus
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/375719

30% bonus is still good I suppose if you need the points now

    • Good point…I might hold on!

    • -1

The bonus is 45% now, don't think you will get the 50%

Maybe I'm reading the terms and conditions wrong but I think they're already factoring the 15% velocity is handing out and then tacking on another 15% to make it 30% in total. If it was 45% I'd definitely consider it.

        • Oh you are correct, I just saw the T&C of the new promo. Are you sure it wasn't the same thing in the deal you posted? Or they definitely gave out an additional amount? Can't check their old promo now as the page is gone.

          • @knobbs: Fairly certain it was the full 50%, the expired deal I linked had the following text:

Velocity 20% Frequent Flyer Offer: The Velocity Frequent Flyer bonus is available for every successful manual redemption or Auto-Redemption of ANZ Reward Points for Velocity Points made from 1 May 2018 to 10 June 2018. • Based on the email:
We calculate your bonus by converting your current ANZ Reward Points balance to Velocity Frequent Flyer Points (2:1). 15% of your 30% bonus Velocity Points come from the Velocity Frequent Flyer bonus Points offer and 15% of your 30% come from the ANZ Booster Offer

  • anz say it takes 'up to' 60 days to get reward points credited to your account after you meet min spend (anz rewards black, 75k anz points / 2.5k spend) . i reached this a couple weeks ago. i'm hoping to get my points in nov so i can do the 30% velocity transfer. any of you guys got any experience with how long it actually took to get the points? is it linked to monthly statements?

    cheers!

    • +1

I received mine about two weeks after hitting the spend.

      • thanks =)

  • Curious to know why.. is Velocity getting better than any other cards points? Or it’s just a trick?

    • They are far rarer - Qantas the obvious 'big player' in terms of accessibility, however Velocity is IMO a far better point system with more value (unless you are referring to International, then its a different story).

  • +1

I've participated in this promotion in the past, and I cannot justify this as a good deal. Velocity points have recently been devalued and this means it is going to be more expensive for the same flight. Not to mention an increase in carrier charges making the whole redemption thing a poorer value proposition.

I've found redeeming the ANZ points on westfield gift cards a better option for me as this gives tangible benefits more often than the prospect of flight redemption and the constant news of devaluation that comes with it.

Don't get suckered into conversion, it might be better to retain/redeem your ANZ points <— my 2 cents.

    • +2

The value gained from redeeming points on business or first class far exceeds any short sighted value you'd get from redeeming them for gift cards. If you spent 22,225 ANZ points for a $100 Myer gift card, you're getting $0.0045 per point, or 0.45 cents per point.

With the 30% bonus, if you had 142k ANZ points, x 0.5 x 1.3 = roughly 92k VFF points. With this, + $60 in taxes (which will increase from 1 Jan) you can go one way business Singapore to London which normally costs $6k. Net of taxes assume the value you're getting is $5,900. The value per point you're getting is $0.0415 per point, or 4.15 cents per point, roughly 9-10 times the value you get from redeeming on gift cards.

At the very least, transfer to Velocity and sell for cash and with the 30% bonus you'd be getting around 0.65 cents per point.

  • What do people use Velocity points for if they don't fly virgin?

I got the ANZ travel card but Im not sure what Im going to use them for.

    • I use velocity to points because they're so easy to collect. Transfering to Kris Flyer is simple, and then you can fly on any Star Alliance. (Won't be such good value from Jan 1)

  • -5

Looking at Virgin's share price they may go bankrupt so that's why they are giving big discounts on their points.

  • Do Anz Black cards have an Amex?

  • On my ANZ Rewards account, typically a number of reward points expire on 31/12 of each year. I’ve gone ahead and transferred enough to not let any points lapse, and will wait for the 50% bonus offer, as some others have pointed out earlier, to transfer more.

Others may want to check if they’ve got any points expiring end of year, and have no other better use of those points, and transfer those to Velocity now.

    • +1

Yes - points earned 36 months will expire on the 31 Dec

    • how do you check if you have points expiring soon?

    • Are you looking at "My Dashboard—>Account overview" ? I have about 85k points, though it says "Reward Points Expiring 31/12/18 : 0, status: available".

      I hope I'm safe…

  • Anyone else hoping they will bump up the percentage lol??

  • Extended to 9/12
