  • Nice. Not the fastest drive, but I think I'll grab one at that price.

    • +1

I'm out! so you can have better luck historically than me in snapping one.

I hate these type of sales where you get hyped up and put a lot of effort approaching that hour.. only to be disappointed when you click on checkout, all units have been scooped up in just minutes.

I don't bother and have come to realise I am much happier end of the day thinking i really didn't missed out much on anything. Life Rocks!

then again driving to MSY to pickup something that wasn't available wasn't all that fun!

      • Hah, I forgot to come back for it. No great loss.

  • +2

    is this real life?

  • +28

    $11 shipping kills the deal.

    • +6

Not if you buy all 50 ;)

      • +4

unlikely you can combine shipping: "1 unit per purchase"

    • Kills the deal, Kills the deal, Maybe so….

  • +3

what do you do with a 120gb, a solo drive for gta5?
    Archive drive?

    • +7

Good for home PCs to install OS on for quick boot etc.
It's actually very very useful for a lot of people :)

      • -6

At this point we have gotten deals for 256gb drives around $50-70. 120gb isn't really big enough for an OS drive with Windows 10, better to spend that little more for double the capacity.

        • +1

Thank goodness I dumped windows years ago!

        • +4

          I'm talking 120gb + HDD's.
Install the OS on the SSD and other stuff on hard drive.

        • +2

120 is plenty for OS. Upgraded my wife's laptop a year ago. No issues. Office included.

          • @scuderiarmani: This, I only just changed from a 120 to 500gb because I wanted a much faster drive and it's cheap enough so I can stick some slow loading steam games on there.

Odds are if I grab this it'll just be another drive in the desktop for open world games.

        • Wow the negs on you lol

    • +1

      Raid 0

      • This. Buy 50 of them

    • Install Windows.

    • +4

System drive for a htpc/plex server. Perfect size.

    • +2

I had a 120gb drive for Windows, but it would get filled insanely quick, didn't think many others would use it as a OS drive on their main rigs.

Interesting seeing other use cases for it though

      • +1

You can map your Downloads / Documents etc folders to other drives - may have been the reason for it filling?

        • -5

With the way Windows 10 build upgrades happen you often use over 80gb in Windows files, if you have a 120gb drive you will get popups asking you to clear more room. Really not suitable as a boot drive for Windows anymore. Good upgrade for an old XP or Win7 to give more life to your grandparents PC though.

          • -1

            @Agret: Windows 10 only needs about 20GB.
A 120GB drive is more than enough for a boot drive.

          • @Agret: I have windows 10 on 60gb ssd for last 3 years and getting all updates without ever needing to clear any storage space.

            33GB used 22GB free. 5GB TAX?

            • +1

@dadeadman: Hmm 33gb sounds pretty optimistic but you are probably right that it comes in a lot under 120gb, I'll check some of the PCs at work next week and get back to you.

              For some rough estimates

              20gb windows
              4gb pagefile
              3gb office folder
              10-15gb user profile folder

I'm not at the PC right now so can't confirm exact numbers but yeah my bad it's no doubt okay to use the 128gb drive as a boot drive for light use, I must've had it confused with the 64gb systems and I guess they had some extra programs installed.

            • @dadeadman: It's the difference between a gigabyte and a gibibyte. What Windows calls GBs are actually GiBs. 60 GB is just under 56 GiB.

          • @Agret: They don't like it when you say anything against windows ten around here lol

    • +3

If you have an old laptop just plop them in to give some new life.

    • +2

Buy an USB 3 UASP enclosure and use an SSD rather than thumbstick.

    • Personally I use mine as a boot drive to speed up my older desktop while keeping my hard drive for most other things

    • My first thought exactly is what this would be big enough for, even GTA 5 is too big for this being 150+GB lol

    • If you have nas, you and use this as cache drive.

What advantages do these slow Green drives have over mechanical ones other than lighter weight, noise and better battery on notebooks?

    • +23

What do you mean by slow green drives? It's an SSD which makes it much faster than a mechanical drive…

    • +1

      and still quicker

    • I installed in my HTPC, just improved windows boo time and general speed of experience over mechanical OS drive.

      • +6

        …improved windows boo time…

It's good to get the negativity out of the system sooner.

      • "Boo Time" was Wednesday night. Move on.

    • +1

Even the green drives will be much faster than mechanical

    • It still boot up the system faster than the HDD.

    • +13

"What advantages does this have over say…a train? Which I could also afford…"

      • Hahahahaahahaha

    • +1

noticeably much faster than any mechanical drive , more responsive on typical system use

  • +26

$26 inc shipping … limited quantity of 50. It's been around $30 several times this year on ebay. I don't think I'll waste my time for a $4 saving.

    • +8

You sure about that? A $4 saving is like, 2 free Zapals deals later on.

    • +1

Yes officer, this comment right here.

    • +1

      Do you even ozbargain?

      • Yup - if i spend time on this shitty deal, i'll miss out of other awesome deals posted on ozbargain.

        • +1

Add to cart. Receive message that item is sold out. How much time that take?

          • @JerryB: C'mon Jerry, at least allow another 20 seconds or so for posting back on here about missing out!

  • how much on msy?

  • +1

$26 is not a deal for 128GB at this stage. Really not. With such a dive in price for SSD, only regret youll get to buy this. Not even enough to store my photos from phone.

    • +1

      i agree with this, i got a 128 and a 256 retiring soon when 1tb comes out

      • +1

The sellers are trying to hold tight with 1TB, but i bet they can hold no more close to black friday and Xmas.

We need to hold tight guys.

        • +1

          HODLing like the btc n00bs

  • i'll wait until it drops to 5 bucks.

  • +3

50 units available and over 1,000 click throughs from this post alone in under 2.5 hours - This is a lottery.

    • I remember when gearbest or one of those older chinese sites did this with qty 10-100, they posted a pic of the transaction history and a lot of them were from Eastern Europe / China / USA lol. Only 1-2 from Australia. Sold out <1 minute from going live.

  • 50…good luck

  • $26 for this 120GB SDD, or you can pay double at $52 for the 240GB model at FUTU.

  • $10 cheaper than MSY but it's only 120Gb so has limited uses. Feels funny saying 120Gb is limited as I remember buying a PC that had a 1.2Gb hard drive and it took some time to fill that. Went to a computer fair and drooled over a 2.1Gb as a replacement but couldn't afford it so I bought an Iomega Zip drive instead.

  • I added this to my cart.
Then at the checkout the price changed to $37.05.
I'll not neg the deal - but that's pretty crappy.

EDIT: OK, just saw that deal starts in a few hours (when I'm out). Sigh, bit gimmicky to get some clicks.
Good luck, to those who are prepared to invest time in that.

  • Can get one for $10 more from Futu Online with their PearTree code if you want it and don't mind paying that bit extra.
