  • Just in time for my trip at the end of the year!

  • +2

It used to be 40$ a while back, but nevertheless 20 per person is good.

    • Use to be $50 iirc?
Haven't transit through Changi since 2014 though.

    • yes 40$ was awesome.
      Got 40$ in 2014.
      Got 20$ in 2017 trip.

    • I’m saving mine for my return transit trip - collect two of them one each way = $40 - should be doable right ?

      • $20 only. 1 return ticket gets $20

        • But how will they know ?

          • @[Deactivated]: They will want to see the full e-ticket before giving you the voucher

            • @daft009: So you’re saying they somehow marked mine as redeemed ? It didn’t look like they did - I got my voucher already let’s see what happens

          • @[Deactivated]: Definitely only one way.

They take a note of your ticket details when you redeem the first leg.

Ive tried to claim twice, they look up your ticket number and deny you on the 2nd time.

  • Any bargains at the airport to spend it on?

    • A beer is $18

      • Bargain !!!

    • Yes, snags for $1 each.

    • 1L of Bacardi is $20…. therefore free.

      • therefore free.

Depends how much you are paying for the airline tickets…

        • Work paid… therefore free

          • @battler: Then you'd get free drinks in the business lounge regardless…

            • +7

@jv: Correct, but this deal means I have free drinks in my home lounge as well.

      • +1

If purchasing the Bacardi (or any such liquids) at Duty Free, make sure you do not open the bag in any way (even a tiny hole) as you will not be allowed to pass through security. You can of course try to skol it all yourself but then you will also be not allowed to board due to intoxication. :-)

        • +1

you leave it at checkout and pick it up inside the gate (after the next screening point)

          • @battler: Also needless to say that if you purchased any DF alcohol in your departing country (just before Singapore) to also NOT open up the bag in any way or it will be seized by Singapore security. I have even seen some poor guy who had a small tear (almost a scrape) in the DFS plastic bag for what was apparently some expensive whisky and he was very upset that he was not allowed to take it onboard.

      • I bought similar alcohol. Cost $25-30$, paid the difference.

    • I bought $19.80 worth of chocolate at the shop opposite the counter. Mostly blocks of Toblerone and one cheaper chocolate item to get me as close as possible to $20. A little disappointed I didn't get it to at least $19.90.

        Please hand in your membership

    • Not really a bargain, but you can get 1 free cocktail per person from the Long Bar at T3.
      It's only open from 12pm to 12am I think.

    • I used the $20 to access the one of the lounges. Theres showers, free wifi and a buffet of food and drinks.

      • Do you remember the name of the lounge? That sounds like the best deal

        • +1

          Pretty sure ambassador

  • Would it include on virgin flights that share code with Singapore?

    • Not sure but this might help.

Passengers travelling on Singapore Airlines (SQ) and/or SilkAir (MI) ticketed and operated flights into and out of Singapore, that means, passengers' e-ticket numbers must begin with 618, 629 or 086. Codeshare flights must be operated by Singapore Airlines (SQ) and/or SilkAir (MI), and the 4-digits flight numbers must start with SQ or MI.

      • Booking was made through virgin but flight is operated by Singapore airlines.
Will give a go at Changi Airport. Worth a shot

        • You can try. You need an SQ Boarding pass.

Source: I have been claiming these for years.

    • It does not, asked at the counter on Friday - bought on Virgin operated by SQ and connecting flight was Silk Air

    • I flew SQ on a VA ticket last year and wasn't eligible, so I would imagine nothing has changed. Worth asking though.

      • I can confirm this also, SQ ticket via Changi but first leg operated by virgin, was not eligible.

  • +4

Confirming this deal, just used it 2 days ago. I thought this has always been available? ($20 voucher)

Have to prove a connecting flight on eligible airlines showing your boarding pass+passport

Recommend budget at least 30 minutes to collect the voucher from the iShopChangi counter as there is usually a line (depending on your luck/which terminal), and another 30 minutes to shop and walk to the boarding gate this counter is not near boarding gates.

Plenty of stuff you can use it on, I normally use it on some skincare product. Not sure if you can use the voucher for this but recommend trying IRVINS SALTED EGG FISH SKIN from the store in Terminal 2 if you're there.

    • IRVINS SALTED EGG FISH SKIN

Ridiculously popular. Not sure if the voucher can be used on it.

Personally, I find it a tad overrated. Would rate it at a 7.5/10 (still reasonably good!) but it's often discussed as if it's a 10/10.

    • Yum! How much are they?

      • If I remember correctly the big packets are around $15 sgd and small ones around $8 sgd.

    • Have you ever tried bringing the fish skins into Australia? I'd imagine the custom here wouldn't allow me to pass with them but I'm curious.

Seems 120hkd depart tax return @ hong kong airport is a better deal

    • What are you referring to? Just google the following keywords and found nothing:

      • 120hkd depart pax
      • $120 depart pax hong kong
      • $120 transit voucher hong kong
        • -1

Was this some sort of sarcastic comment? I was hoping for some sort of deal where you got your money back in some way.

          • @danielh: @danielh

read the exemption list here: (https://www.cad.gov.hk/english/apdt_exempt.html).

In essence, flights out of hong kong pay a $120hkd air passenger departure tax which is levied through the air fair you pay.

If you fly in AND out of Hong Kong on the same calendar day you can get said levy back (see Exemption Category 1):

"Passengers who arrive* Hong Kong by aircraft and depart* from Hong Kong by aircraft within the same day** (irrespective of whether they have passed through arrival immigration controls before departure)."

            • refers to the scheduled arrival time and scheduled departure time of the aircraft.

Real ozbargainers fly Scoot to Singapore. The Dreamliner with $30 upgrade to "super seat" is quite civilised.

    • Real ozbargainers fly on points I'd say ;-)

    • If you are just going to Singapore, sure, however, this offer is encouraging people to transit via Singapore.

  • +2

Is it stackable to pay $60 in one transaction if we have 3 people? I could not find the answer from the link.

    • +1

Last year when I flew through Singapore I had no trouble stacking 2 of them for an alcohol purchase.

    • +1

I stacked two OK a few months back buying a laptop sleeve.

  • Is it both way?

    • Can only claim one way (doesn't matter which way you claim it on though). If you have a one way ticket you aren't eligible either.

  • +6

I collected mine on Friday! You can also use it for 2 free hours in the Ambassador Lounge. Good if you have a few hours layover as we did. It's not the flashest lounge or the biggest, but free food, showers and a quiet place to sit down. I think it's normally $40 for 3 hrs.

    • This lounge would be my vote for best use of the 20 SGD voucher as well.

    • That's my plan too. Hoping it's still available in May.

    • Also rate the lounge! It was quite crowded when I last went though, but it was around 10pm, and I imagine there are a lot of people in transit at that time. Small offerings with the food (maybe eaten up by others?), but I didn't have to wait for the showers!

    • Certainly beats paying $18 for a beer.

  • Is there any shop at Changi that sells gold where this voucher can be used?

  • I don't understand the 'one-way' exclusions. I am flying one way only, Bkk-Sing-Syd with Singapore Airlines.

    • Two 1ways via Singapore are fine. How are you returning?

      • One way Air Asia day flight Syd - Dmk(Bangkok), and then back to Sydney night flight Bkk to Syd via Sing. with Singapore Airlines.

        • aah yeah. then no go.
          not sure why they exclude

  • +1

Hope it is extended again for my flights in April.

  • +1

I'm heading out Tomo. Have $20 from a previous trip too.

I think this time it'll all be spent on a bottle of Japanese whisky

    • Probably cheaper at Dan's, even with GST. I didn't see many Japanese Whiskies in duty frees around the world ealier this year though.

      • Yeah i was at Changi back in June and didn't see any either.
However a colleague bought some back in May.

lets see if I get lucky this time, have 40 changi dollars to blow

  • Does anyone know if these counters operate 24/7? Have flights landing 10:30pm with 2 hours transit time to Seoul. SQ flights.
Also why is it a return SQ ticket only entitles $20 SD? How to redeem pls?

    • +1

Yes it’s 24 hours counter, ive just claimed mine @ 0545 this morning! All they need is your boarding pass e ticket numbers starting with 618*

      • Thanks so much

  • These vouchers have been available for several years now as we have picked them up for the last 4 years as we fly to Europe every May. We usually buy duty free with them.

  • Is scoot eligible? I am flying through changi to asia on scoot and returning via changi by singapore airlines on separate tickets?

    • Eligibility is for Singapore Airlines, SilkAir or Air New Zealand

  • Thanks OP. Will use it when I go to the Philippines again.

  • I used this in July. Family of 4 (2 kids under 7). Got 4x$20 vouchers and took straight to duty free. Bought 2x Gordon's Gin and 1x Bombay Sapphire gin. Came to $80 exactly. Handed over my monopoly money vouchers and done! Our time between our connections was only an hour but they just let me buy it as they were just taking the trolley of booze from the duty free to the gate. Few minutes later and we would have missed out and had to spend it on Lego or something in a gift shop. Such a great freebie!

  • Just keep in mind you can't use it for food and drinks anymore. Only on shopping.

  • Is this fine for direct flights to SG Changi?

    • Has to be transit. Singapore cannot be the destination

  • Has anyone tried claiming it again on their return journey, after having claimed once in their onward journey ? I know as per their T&C, it doesn’t allow twice.

    • Haven't tried but I did give them a 1 way itinerary and they can't they can't process till they saw the return as well. Showed them the printout of the return too then got my voucher

  • The link doesn't work anymore

  • Just got mine, sitting next to the counter at T3 right now. The voucher is no longer valid for food! dang it. The guy confirmed when I asked and he actually crossed out the word Restaurants on the back of voucher.

So now I gotta pay duty free -$SGD 20 price for something, not ozb price!
