  • I have a few of these but thought they were 720p? Newer ones 1080p?

    • Bought one XiaoFang, thanks OP. Payment has gone though PayPal but it shows as pending on Joy Buy. Anyone having the same issue?

  • +2

    Might be region locked

    • +2

They're no longer locked. Even if you update the firmware.

      • Are you sure? I have two of these and they don't work here?

        • +1

          yes

I have 2, mac address 28 and 34. Both updated to latest firmware, Mi Home on latest, both working.

    • +1

can confirm, i have 3 xiaofang. MAC 34. was china region locked for 18month after purchase.
just test again today all working now as normal! thanks for the update

  • +2

I have one that doesn't work in Australia. Are all of these the same?

    • +2

just tested, i had the same one during the non working period in aus. weirdly, it now works. i'm still running the rstp hack. mi home still works with the xiaofang hack. luckily i didn't throw the thing away. lol

  • Price is $18.20 US with GST.

  • +3

Never buy these I have 2 of these, worked ok for few weeks then never worked following a software update. I got it to form gear best but they are all same and MI got no support in Australia. Useless.

    • +2

Agree. If you want something better, worry free, find proper camera. I have 14 of these and I need to restart & reset frequently. Bought from various suppliers.

    • +1

I have got three. I always update when there is new verison. All three are working now. I dont know why many people said not working after software updated.

    • Same here, but after reading they are working again I tried to connect and it works fine. Try yours today.

    • +2

these units are very hard to configure. once configure they works most but all the time.
      need to power cycle.

also need to use the chinese app to view.

get the larger version "da fang" which is more stable.

    • +3

They were region locked before depending on mac address. But now firmware updates removed the locking for all models.

The neg isn't warranted if that's the sole (incorrect) reason.

    • +1

Yeah I don't think the negative vote is warranted, you may have had issues with them but that doesn't mean everyone else does or will experience the same.

    • China server works

    • I have two that I have just now installed with no issues at all.

      Try installing them again.

  • +2

You have to set region to Mainland China in order to use this.

    • +1

Mine in AirBnB room works fine in China server..😅

      • +3

Why did you put a camera in an AirBNB room….?

  • Has anyone got these working with Blue Iris software at all?

    • Yes. Fang-hacks installs an RTSP server. Even has audio from memory.

Every couple of months the RTSP server might crash … There are a couple of scripts around that monitor and restart it.

      I'm buying a 2 more now.

  • +2

I have one of these and the other bigger one that has a motor for rotating.

This one drops out and needs to be power cycled on a regular basis while the other model seems to just work 24/7 no problem.

It's pure luck with all these bang for buck Chinese electronics, often good but fail in a short period with zero support.

    • Glad its not just me who has to power cycle this camera 1 or 2 x per week. It seems to loose connection to the router, even with static ip set on the router. Kinda makes it hard to use as security camera when away overseas.
Waiting for the mikia smart 360 to go on sale

      • +2

I bought a timer wall plug from Bunnings that turns it off and on twice a day and no issues so far.

        • Good idea. Might give that a try

  • +1

I bought 3 of them, and all dead in couple of months

  • +2

I have 2 of these. Worked perfectly for couple of months but after that never worked with software update. Pls don’t buy this one. It’s a pain, need to reset very frequently to wok again

    • how do you find out if they are genuine or not?

      • Who said non-genuine ones existed?

  • +2
    • +1

I have 2 of these that I set up with fang-hacks to leave in my house while I went on a 3 week holiday. Worked a treat.

      • +1

what is the benefit of fang hacks vs just using the mi home app to check the camera?

        • +1

Fang hacks doesnt phone China :)

I have 2 myself, with fang hacks on. Works great. video saved to my Synology and works with the DS Cam app.

          • @starburstyellow: so how do you set it up to record 24/7 to the Synology?

            • @pinkybrain: The synology comes with surveillance station. Just need to put th ip addresses etc and smooth sailing from there. And I have my NAS viewable on the internet. So works when I'm at work and want to check up.

  • -1

Note - you will not be able to use this in Australia without hacking it and using third party software. All new Xiaofang cameras are now region blocked, and will only work in China.

    • Won't it work if you select mainland as a region when you login?

    • +2

Incorrect. It's been working fine with the new firmware for the last 6 months or so.

      • +1

        Thanks so much!

I have had two sitting in their boxes since the beginning of the year.

I have just set one up, no issues at all.

        • +2

I was similar. I had one working prior to an upgrade. After that, didn’t bother checking it.

Decided to check it one day and was surprised to see it working perfectly.

  • I had this camera working for over 1 year though, no hacking. Mobile access, recording are all good.

    • where and how do you mount it in the front yard?

can you show a pic of how you mounted it?

      • I didn't mount on the wall. I simply placed on a desk of the corner which looks after the main entrance.

        • so it sees through a window?

I got one as well and it is seeing through a window
but the problem is, at night you cannot see anything with night mode turn on when it sees through the window

I think it needs to be placed outside for night mode to work properly
but then you need to figure out how to run the power cable outside etc..

Also this means there is possibility of someone steal it as well.

  • neg per same reasons others have said.. awful setup/hack procedure.. and i'm a level 7 geek. (or level 2 on the zuckerberg scale)

    • Wtf are you on about? They’re easy as to modify.

    • I must be a level 9000 geek then because as stickyfingers said, these were easy to configure with fang hacks and also the change in code to help it not overheat.

      • I'm probably only level 3 or 4 geek and I managed to get it setup. As mentioned above, I had issues at one time, but it's now all working fine and dandy.

  • -1

Shouldn’t sell Xiaofang in Australia. Bought one before but has region locked. Tried hack but still no success. Now just a piece of plastic rubbish gathering dust in my room.

    • +1

      Read my comments above.

      • +2

As you mentioned above the latest firmware works, so I dusted off my Xiaofang, installed Mi Home app on my iPhone again, updated the firmware of the Xiaofang to the latest version, tried to add it to my device on Mi Home, but failed. Tried changing region from Mainland China, to Singapore, to Other, Mi Home failed to configure my Xiaofang in all attempts. What a (profanity) waste of time.

        • +1

Where is it failing? On the QR scan?

          • @CVonC: mine fails at "connecting to network timed out". (after updating to newest firmware)

            • +1

@mudguppy1: Yes, same. Just cannot connect to network after it timed out at 100%.

              • @edfoo: You guys are connecting to a 2.4GHz network right?

                • @CVonC: yes 2.4GHz. it worked until region was changed back to Singapore after last update. Now dead no matter what region is selected.

        • I just succeeded with the two I own.

Though they want me to install updates, (profanity) that.

  • CVonC - Could you provide a link to this new firmware you speak of?

    • +1

      It's updated through the app.

  • +2

I've to agree that after last firmware update they seem to preform much better . I didn't have a single dropout in some time now . Before that it was really bad .

  • I have 2, worked great without firmware update. Just bought 2 more.

  • Recommend you load Xiaofang hacks onto these.

    • +2

Tried that Fang Hack in the past, never work. We shouldn't need to resort to hack to get it to work. Don't sell to us Australians if Xiaomi wants to be so freaking fussy.

  • just updated firmware on mine but they now hang connecting to network with "bring device closer to router" ?

  • neg deal, shouldn't sell these to Australian market got one of these and are region locked to China, tried to change to another country after firmware update and just times out.
