  • Where’s the best place to get additional licenses to get more than 2 cameras working with surveillance station?

    • +1

      I purchased one on eBay.

    • +3

Honestly, Surveillance station is way overpriced.
I'm running it currently with 2 cameras and it good, but not great.
If the licences were 1/2 the price or less they might be worth considering.

For someone after an easy solution and little concern for the price i guess it might be worth it.
      Just my 2c.

Aside from the i pretty much lover everything about my 415+ and this unit is very similar, just newer, a little faster and a little better.
I'd gladly buy this if i needed another 4 bay unit.

      • Agreed on the Surveillance Station price, hence me asking here where is the best place to buy it.

Hoping fellow OzBargainers found some sort of cheap loophole :(

I would use surveillance station for max 3 cameras, otherwise just use DVR. Most of them have app for remote access, and some 8 port ones are cheaper than 2 synology licenses.

  • Yep. They usually only release a replacement for each line on two year cycles… I'm running a DS916+ and it has been rock solid for me.

Also according to nascompares there are two 4-bay models; the RS1619RPxs…albeit a rack mount unit and the DS1419dva, a video surveillance targeted unit.

  • Thanks I ordered one. Now I'm just going to wait for a deal on Ironwolf Pro's to populate it with.

    • +1

I have 2 WD red, 1 hgst and 1 ironwolf pro.
WD temperature is always 35 and ironwolf is 45. Maybe due to the RPM, red is 5400 vs ironwolf 7200. But I dont know if that matters for nas, lower temp may have longer lifespan. I would choose red if cost the same.

      • Interesting. I was thinking Ironwolf Pro more because of the 5 year warranty, but I will look in to the WD Reds as well thanks.

  • Thanks OP, bought one!

  • Anyone have any recommendations on additional RAM? Would prefer another 4GB stick to run a few VMs

    • I bought this from 8gb stick from MWAVE. Works a treat but probably voids the warranty i now have up the DS918+ 12gb.

      • No issues?

        • none … although i thought of going to 16gb but really the NAS is not built to handle the amount of VMs that i wanted to run and throw at it. The extra ram is good for Docker and the synology packages though. I'm probably going to Intel Nuc for VMs and just leave the NAS to do Plex and a few Docker containers.
I actually bought DS218+ for redundancy of critical data and moved 4gb off the DS918+ to it, so just relying on the 8gb stick and no issues.
