  • is there any reason why i couldn't activate my sim through porting? I was at the last step where you pressed submit and there was always an error

    • +1

I also had the same problem twice, after I changed the email address to make a new account, the problem was solved.

      • will try this in a few months!

    • -3

Belong is based on the Telstra network I believe, if you are porting from a service using the Telstra network to a service that is also using the Telstra network you will have to call Belong to get a blank sim and then port and transfer over the starter kit.

      • +2

You are thinking of Boost, they are different as you are pretty much treated as a Telstra retail customer from a billing and service point (same billing system etc)

Belong is a MVNO like any other so there are no porting issues.

        • -3

That's a lie. It takes longer and I had to email support if you are switching from telstra mvno to another

          • @[Deactivated]: Your comment is not relevant to the issue of sim cards when porting between Boost and Telstra.

Your port probably failed. Ports can fail for a number of reasons.

What you experienced was not an issue porting between Boost and Telstra.

Moving between Boost and Telstra is a unique issue because Boost customers are on the Telstra billing system. It is not because they are a Telstra MVNO.

      • What? You always have to get a new SIM when porting to a new provider.

  • +1

Is there an expiry date for the sim cards?

    • Wondering the same thing. My current mobile contract ends in 2 months. Want to switch to belong. If I buy it now can it be activated 2 months down the track?

    • Hello. The expiry date is 1 year

      • +4

That info may not be correct. I had contacted the Belong customer service, this is what they replied :
Our SIM cards does not have an expiry date you may activate them at any time by registering the SIM through our website and if you do encounter any issues feel free to raise a support request and include a picture of the SIM card and receipt so we may process a replacement free of charge.

        • The SIM cards may not expire but the credit on it might.

Mine says Loaded credit will expire 12 months after purchase on the back of the SIM card package.

        • belong sim card have no expire date or what?

    • +1

The new sim card I have does not have an expiry date on it, only a production date.

I think sim cards expire because there is a phone number allocated to it so for providers to get the number back so they can use it again the card needs to expire.
Belong sim cards do not come with a number allocated to them.

  • Are the still offering the bonus for both signing up under someone else and also for referring a friend?

On a side note, you business logo made me flashback to the late 80's early 90's as it reminded me of the Infogrames game studio logo. Anyone else old enough to remember that one?

    • +1

Yes. Used it the other day.

    • How does "signing up under someone else" work?

        • Isn't that just referral? Gravy mentioned BOTH "signing up under someone else" AND ALSO FOR "referring a friend"
Sounds like two mountable ways to earn more just a referral.

          • @freewhere: Yes, both the referee and referrer get a credit to their account. Once you have signed up you also have the chance to use your own code to refer others and get additional credit. At least thats how it worked a few months ago when I signed up. I think I ended up with about 8 months worth of the $10 plan by signing up under someone, then signing up my wife under me, all for $15 total (edit, or maybe it was $20 when I got my sim). :)

            • @Gravy: Ah, I see now what you meant. I imagined something entirely different.

  • +7

Good info here and plenty of hacks in the forums

    https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/belongmobile

Eg. This $15 sim can be used to give your current belong account $20 credit and 30gb of data. I'll be buying a few at this price. Cheers op

    • wait what do you mean?

    • +1

Yes please explain. I currently have a belong plan @ $10/month

      • because you get $20 credit for a referral, so he use the sim to get the credit on both accounts. Then he can transfer the data back to his own proper account later too.

        • Can you get referral $20 for mobile plan as well? Any link?
I think the referral bonus is applicable only for NBN plan..

      • Read the hacks on previous deals.

Open new account and refer yourself. Activate on the right day of the month for double data and gift it to your primary account.

        • How to know the "right day of the month" ?

          • +1

@freewhere: It's pretty commonly found but:

We have 4 billing cycle here in Belong Mobile, the 4th, 12th, 20th, and the 28th of the month

So if you activate your card in between these dates, eg on the 6th of the month, then you'll get one lot of free data. Because you don't get your credit debited until a billing date. Effectively meaning you get double data on activation of the plan.

I cut across to belong, bought two sims, activated primary with an ozb referral, then activated second with my own referral, gifted the data from the second to my primary and now have $40 credit and 60+gb of data in the bank for an initial outlay of 2 sims ($30 in this case, $40 in my case)

            Happy so far!

      • "Starter packs

The $40 starter packs can be activated on any plan. If activated on the $10 plan, you will get 4 months before having to pay more."

        • But does that include activating on an 'existing $10 plan'?

    • I do the exact same thing for my dad. These deals are so regular and his usage so low that I replaced his fixed cable connection with Belong.

  • If you use a referral link you also get an additional $20 credit. So effectively you could get 6 months of calls and text for $15.
Only draw back is you will only get 1gb of data per month. On the plus side any unused data roles over.
If you have a dual Sim phone use the second Sim to data hop cheap high use data sims

    • Re: rollover, I think the data rolls over in 1gb blocks so if you are on the 1gb/$10/mth plan, then if you use any data that month, it will not roll over. Best to start on a higher plan for the first month and then change to 1gb/$10/mth plan in the months after that so you can roll that initial allocation of data over.

      • No it doesn't, all unused data is available in the future

  • Can I buy more than 1 and use them one after the other for the same mobile number without porting out and in again? (I mean like a top up)

    • Hello. Unfortunately that is not possible

    • You can transfer data from one Belong account to another.

  • When does it expire?

  • I got the 40 dollar Starterkit from officeworks for 20 dollars. Seems to be the normal price. Just in case this one ends. Porting from telstra to belong was very smooth. Service worked the next morning. Confirmation email that service is working came 10 days later :D

  • No voicemail is a big turnoff. Any firm dates when it'll arrive, besides just early next year?

    • This could be an alternative

      Message2Txt
If you miss a call, the caller will be able to leave a 10 second voice
message that we will try to convert into text and send to you as an
SMS. We don’t currently offer a traditional voicemail service.

      • +4

I prefer voice2text over traditional voicemail myself

        • +4

Same. I was dubious at first but not having to dial a number, wait for the welcome message, listen to a message, delete the message etc etc etc is actually awesome. I love voice to text.

  • Bought one. Thanks! :)

    • Thank you

  • -1

I requested free sim card for the second and third time and never arrived. Only the first time which was arrived.

    • Why request free SIM when you can buy one with $40 credit for $15?

      • -2

to activate free $20 referral credit. this is why I joined ozbargain :)

  • +1

    Remember guys, no voicemail!

    • +1

Never used Voicemail in my life.
Can't see it as being a deal breaker for me…:)

    • +2

You say that like it's a bad thing. If i'm not available people get a busy tone, AWESOME! my life just got easier.

    • the "voicemail" is converted to SMS and sent instantly. Also encourages the caller to speak clearly so the robot can understand and convert correctly.

  • Is the $10 SIM on sale anywhere at the moment?

  • +1

Mods, Why isn't there a referral link up top like in previous posts?

    • +3

probably because this is listed as a cellmate deal and not a belong deal.

  • Hey, I thought Belong has no lock-in?

So I'm a bit dubious getting this from Cellmate…

    :)

    • The seller states no lock-in in the description above.

      • quarrymaster above forgot to use sarcastia font…

        • Oh… a play on words was it… didnt catch that username cleverness first time around.

    • Hello. We are authorised BELONG dealers as well and thats why we have been able to offer this deal.

  • Can I port out from belong to Telstra then port back to belong straight away?

    • If you do you'll lose your data bank

      • Don’t have any data leftover atm.

  • Great deal! Thanks for posting :)

    • Thank You

  • sad :( all gone

  • Am I correct in thinking this would be cheapest way to have a 4G connection on an iPad? Activating this on the $10 plan and the $20 referral bonus would get 6 months for $15 right?

    • Hello! These are for voice and data and hence only for mobile phones and not purely for data however you can use the data from your phone to your Ipad via tethering

      • I understand that it has voice and text included, but from reading the belong website it seem like it’ll work in iPads still, which makes it potentially a $2.50/month plan!

  • Anyone knows if the $40 credits can be used as credits by existing belong mobile services?

    • I don't think so, but you can activate it and gift the data to your main number

      • +1

        Thanks, that works ;-)

  • Bought one!!!Thanks

    • Thank you

  • Thanks OP. Was thinking of picking up the Aldi deal next week but this seemed like better value. Very timely post

    • Thank you

  • how do I refer myself as someone suggested?
Can it be under the same name for both accounts but with different number?
or have to refer to a different name but with same address?

    • How long does this $15 starter kit deal run til?

      • it has been extended a few times by a day or two each time. Runs out in 2 days currently.

        • Hello. You are correct. We extend the deal based on stock availability from BELONG.

    • +3

I signed up my second mobile last week using the same name and address as my first belong mobile, but with a different email address, and I didn't have any issue. I just used the promo code of my first belong mobile, when signing up the second mobile.

How long is delivery? I ordered on 15 Nov and besides the confirmation email, haven't heard / received anything else since.

    • Came here to ask same thing. Ordered on 14th, said to be sent on 15th, still have nothing….bit sus

      • Hello. Dispatch time frame is 3 business days. Australia Post has informed us that it takes around 3-5 business days for delivery. Please dont worry. We are based in Perth In Western Australia

    • +2

Seconded. Ordered on the 16th and hoping to receive these by the end of the week.

      Would appreciate an update OP

      • They marked as posted via PayPal which I thought was strange. And no tracking

        • +1

Hmmm according to OPs details they are in Perth so maybe it just takes that long to arrive to the Eastern States?

Haven’t received anything outside of initial order confirmation :(

          • @sandshrew: Notice a send notification came from paypal. not the seller directly

            • @Danstar: Unfortunately nothing for me either from OP or PayPal. Even checked the transaction within PayPal and nothing except the payment.

I did order after the restock so maybe that’s the reason for the hold up?

              • @sandshrew: Thank you. Yes you are correct. On the first day we opened the deal we received a huge number of orders and hence the product went OUT OF STOCK overnight and also created back orders. We really appreciate the patience and understanding of all our valued customers. We try our best to fulfill orders as soon as possible. Please also note that we have to wait for BELONG to deliver us the sims as well and any delay on their end causes a delay at ours too.

        • Hello. The sim cards are sent via standard post without tracking
