I don't think you can game remotely on the AU version.

The use case for this is like for any android box, a lot of people have dumb TVs or underpowered smart TVs that have horrible UI's. This gives you the almost best in class UI experience, powerful enough to run anything android related you can throw at it, has the chops for home streaming/PVR setups, android gaming and emulation, etc.

Why is it better than a raspberry pi? Well it probably isn't, but out of the box it just works with no building/configuring for most peoples needs, has a decent remote, the game controller is right up there with PS4/Xbox etc.

But if you are comparing the two, you probably aren't he type of consumer the nvidia shield is aimed at!

      • It's much better than a Pi!

    • HEVC

  • I've missed out on the Amex $20 back. Is it worth waiting for Amazon black Friday sale?
Kogan is currently selling NVIDIA Shield for $192.30 on Amazon.

For those wanting to use this as a Kodi box, here's a great thread to take a look at.

    • Thanks for that. Do you know of a recent thread that’s up to date for loading freeflix and terrarium onto it as well?

      • Sorry bennybaubles, no idea. There's bound to be a few threads floating around on kodi.tv or elsewhere.

  • Can you change the DNS settings in the network setup?

    • yes, you can

  • hmm, thinking of buying another one :(, just to use my amex offer, never used shipster before, is it easy to use? how do i use it in conjunction with kogan?

    • +1

You just sign up to shiptser, when you login in to Kogan it recognises your email address and removes the shipping cost.

      • So If i am going to use a new email address for shipster, i should use that same email address for kogan and hence create new accounts on both?

  • First time ive bought from Kogan, states that it ships within 1-2 weeks then takes 2-3 days to get here, can people who have ordered previously confirm that this is the case, are they usually prompt with their shipping? I dont want to have to wait until mid December for this thing.

    • Ordered mine on the 19th and it was dispatched the next day. So yeah its pretty quick.

    • There's an express shipping option if you can't wait so long…

      • Happy to wait just wanted to make sure that they are usually on time and within the 2 week period for shipping.

        • +2

From experience with Kogan, if it says 1-2 days shipping then it usually ships out the day of / after ordering. So if they've updated it to say 1-2 weeks, I'd imagine that it'll be on back-order and that you'll have to wait a bit before it ships. They're usually very efficient however!

  • This or Vodafone TV?

    • I like the Voda - it's heaps cheap - but the Shield has Video and Audio passthrough. This is my regret already. And, it's (probably) getting Android TV Pie. And it's got gig ethernet.

If you've got the extra $100 to spend, do it, otherwise the Voda TV is a nice and cheap box

    • I got my Shield TV mainly use TV apps watching overseas TV channels, I would go for Vodafone TV.

  • The AMEX deal is capped. So unless you had that deal prior to this post you can't use it. Damn.

  • Can someone tell me if fortnite will play directly on this without streaming from my pc? Kids need a 2nd device.

    • It plays but with a hell of a lag. Your kids wouldn't be happy

      • good to know, thanks

    • Get a $250 XB one s, almost the same price and will run fortnite fine.

  • I got a Dispatched email from Kogan and an AusPost tracking number 2 days ago, and but it's sitting there without any update when checking.

Couldn't resist, finally got one to replace Mii box.
    Now for a 4K TV……

  • Ebay guarantees delivery within this week for $7 more while Kogan will start to dispatch after a week or two. getting the TV this week, spend $7 more to get it from ebay or wait and save $7?

    • +1

I ordered from Kogan. It said leaves warehouse 1-2 weeks but my order got shipped the next day. YMMV though!

    • Did you end up buying it from Kogan? Is the Microphone button on your Remote working?

When I click the Mic button, Google assistant prompt comes up at the bottom of the screen, however, it doesn't listen to what I say. Also the same issue for the Voice search. After the short while, it times out and the Voice prompt disappears.

      • I got it from ebay. The mic does have some issues definitely

I've been googling a lot. It seems there are quite a lot of users experiencing this issue. I still couldn't find a way to fix it.

    • Yep cancelled my order
