  • noob question. IS it full duplex?

    • +13

      No, brother number all their models according to their features

      C = Colour
      N = Network
      W = Wireless Network
      D = Duplex

      So a 3040-CN is a colour networked model

      • ta!

      • +2

        Best modeling scheme I've seen in ages. More companies should follow this instead of trying to confuse the customer with model numbers which go up and down, z to a etc

        • fuji xerox does the same

          C = Colour
          P = Printer
          M = Multifunction

        • @anthony, so hopefully all the fuji printers have p in their model number

        • @anthony, so hopefully all the fuji printers have p in their model number

          Well M for multifunction implies that the unit has a printer.

      • that's awesome

        THanks

  • Seems like a good colour laser printer for those on a budget.

    Check out these reviews: http://alatest.com/reviews/printer-reviews/brother-hl-3040cn…

    • I can attest, it is a very nice printer. Fast and good quality, and the brother drivers + installers are AMAZING. Can install it as a networked printer on a new computer in about 30-40 seconds. Seriously, that fast. Works on xp/vista/7 perfectly. Really was nice to use :P

  • Why not put the price in the title?? All you say is "Under $200"

  • +1

    Be careful, you'll pay out the ass for toner.

    • +4

      I'm not sure why I got negged for that seeing as how a set of toners for this printer will cost around $450 and will last about 1400 pages.

    • I was going to post the same… glad I didn't, because people obviously don't want to know about running costs ;-/

    • +1

      And the drum

  • Edit the title to show the price, not just 'under $200'.

    • +1

      Done!

    Not a bargain. $196 at Penta, Megabuy.

    • +5

      Penta are horrible and Megabuy would charge quite a sum for shipping. This isn't a bad deal considering that.

    • +2

      I don't think Penta even stock a third of the items on their list…

    • Penta charges me $49 for shipping, making it effectively $245. Thus, making your point moot. Remember, the printer is about 20kg (or what penta says on the shipping weight).

    • +4

      penta are terrible, that store should never be named on ozbargain… EVER!

    • The free shipping would be worth more than $3

    • MSY > Penta :)

  • This may be a dumb question… can i connect this printer to my wireless router via ethernet cable to be available for all computers as network printer?

    • YES - that is the whole idea of a network printer.

      • Thanks. Thought should confirm.

  • LED printer, not laser.

  • Hmm the cost of toners seems very high. Any options for a cheaper toner? Cheaper colour laser printer?

    • eBay for the generic stuff or check a online toner shop like wholesaletoners.

  • Cheap printer = High running cost (toner/ink cartridges)
    Expensive printer = Low running cost.

    Suitable for home use, but the above rule stands for anyone with a high throughput.
