  • Never stop XDD

  • +1

$1600 for the i7 8700/RTX2080 build at TechFast. Really tempted but who knows how long the wait will be.

  • Has anyone had any experience with the seller 'deal_aussie'? It looks like they've got some cheap phone deals like an S8 Plus for a good price. Confused though, as it says New:Never Used but has a dropdown for Excellent.

    • +2

they are not new phones, its a real crapshoot with most phone sellers being fraudsters. check the gigantic threads on whingepool

  • +10

ok, so whats going on here

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-9-D…
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-9-D…

same product, one is $200 more,
in preparation of removing the cheap one tomorrow???

  • That reminds me Jack & Jill

  • so i have a screen shot saved for SAMSUNG GALAXY S9+ PLUS G965F (6.2", 12MP) for $1099.00
lets see how much it is tomorrow and how much of a discount i'll get.

    @Rep all phones.
    prove me wrong please

    • +2

@Rep all phones. prove me wrong please

They will have a separated listing.

  • Can I expect any macbook pro deal tomorrow? I am tempting to get the entry level 13” macbook at OW with 10% off but not sure if there is any better deal around.

    • I'm also in the market but from the sellers only ausluck sell Apple from my understanding and are notorious for price jacking

  • +4

All 4 things I have been watching got their prices jacked already, waste of my time even doing the search.

    • +2

And not a single neg on the deal

      • -2

I wouldn't neg for TA's effort and time, just feeling annoyed by these eBay's 20% 30% 50% off deals personally. These might be good for others though, but I haven't bought anything from the last five 20% deals tbh

        • +9

You wouldn't neg even tho all the sellers raise their prices way above rrp but out of respect for TA you won't neg even tho this is a bargain site… Sham wow !

          • +6

@solidussnake: I don't neg or plus these 20% posts because there are good buys if you look around despite > half the stores on the list price jacking. I've had good bargains from Dell, Kong and Videopro before with the 20% sales.

If this was just a 20% off on futu or one of the other serial price jackers then yeah I am negging that lol

            • @fishball: Yep, usually if I see a good bargain or buy something with the code then I will upvote the deal. If there aren't any good bargains listed or if there are banned items in the sale then I dont bother

        • I don't get why I got negged, all I was trying to say was I didn't neg purely because I respect people spending their time to write up something, but if it's not a good deal, I don't upvote either, in case you havent noticed, I didn't upvote this one.

    • Report ACCC

  • +26

Stop supporting typical price jacking its a no from me bring on the negs merry xmas

  • -1

Regarding the price jacking. Is anyone contacting these stores with proof of these tactics? They need to know people are noticing.

    • +4

Doesn't matter we all shouldn't be quick to upvote these deals to the moon..

      • +5

Cmon, lets be real, Ozsheeple up vote pretty much anything… Now waiting for the 5 negs and the notification "Your negative vote on this post has been revoked by the community as this comment of yours has received too many negative votes."…. trollololol

        • And Ozsheepie downvote anything. It's a continual cycle. Though the real sheep can be found at ChoiceCheapies.

          • @Clear: Nope the real sheep have a green plus :)

      • +5

Try telling that to the over-sensitive posters here who kiss the ground TA walks on and upvotes blindly

    • +1

ACCC do not care. don't waste your time. eBay were questioned by news.com.au about blatant price jacking and they blamed one rogue seller and said they actively crack down on it.

clearly no one cares to investigate it. best thing is just buy elsewhere. they will care eventually, when it's already too late. most of their sales probably come from these scam 20% off crap at the moment anyway

      • +1

eBay itself is a marketplace and thus ACCC, fair trade etc. can't take action against them. Instead they must take action against the individual store, but even then that's a hard case as they have to prove if the store wasn't having a sale at the same time of the promotion.

Either way these sales have been happening for years, stores have been increasing their prices as they cop most of the discount for years and that's how it'll continue to be.

Move on and live your life. All this stress is not good.

      • +1

How well resourced is the enforcement arm? It's easy to say no one cares but if you're working there with a huge backlog of work already can you even begin to cope. Best thing to do is to make this know to the general public via social media.

        • The ACCC pick their fights and will apparently rarely act on small consumer issues but they do record complaints for future reference if you can be bothered filling out the form. Their inaction is the reason TV shows like ACA have appeal and occasional credibility even. Social media is a good idea. If those of us who have had a gutful all crash the Ebay Facebook page at the same time maybe they'd give a fig? I doubt it somehow. Are the chaser boys still doing The Checkout? I see they have a Tip Off section https://www.abc.net.au/tv/thecheckout/tipoffs/

  • +4

I feel if these eBay deals are purely price jacking then they should be discouraged on OzBargain. It’s just free marketing for eBay otherwise.

    • +1

I negged and mentioned it few weeks back and was down voted so the the best solution for myself is to “ DONT BUY” from anything that is more than 10% sitewide deals until the “Real 20% bargain Integrity” is restored

  • +18

This is no deal you can buy the same deal for $1 or 2 more on eBay 10% sitewide off

Why bother to wait for this weekly 20% off deals

    10tb ironwolf 10% off -$406
    10tb ironwolf 20% off -$404

    • +10

people are downvoting you for showing clearly that this is no bargain or deal. weird members.

      these ebay 'sales' are scams

      • You've just mentioned exactly the reasons why people are downvoting. You're not allowed to neg for "no bargain or deal."

        Inappropriate uses of negative vote
        “Not a bargain”
        “No deal”

Those members aren't weird, they just know the Voting Guidelines

        • +1

Well then why is this website called 'OzBARGAIN'. 2% off RRP is not a BARGAIN. A few years ago, I came here for bargains, today, it's a whole lot of volume, lots of regular OP's posting 20% off a 120% priced item 'deals' for upvotes and to increase their post count, not discounting their effort but if the voting rules are so strict, so should the quality of deals being posted.

Why are upvotes not revoked if no comment is made? That's also my suggestion, eBay 'deals' always get 200+ votes with barely any BARGAINS

          • +2

@tightm8: I'm just a regular member, I didn't make the guidelines so can't answer those questions. Maybe start a TWAM.

            • @WatchNerd: Reasons for Negs: "Major issues with retailer". Can't be any simpler even if the examples are very poor. In the case of these Ebay X% OFF sales OzB needs to add the following: you SHOULD neg deals which are scams and clearly in contravention of Australian Consumer Law. Note: not all sellers in these sales are breaking the law.

              • @[Deactivated]:

Reasons for Negs: "Major issues with retailer"

But the neg was for a particular item that's still more expensive with a non existent 10% off code.

If you're going to make up fake % discounts in order to neg a deal at least make it so the item works out cheaper haha.

                • +1

@WatchNerd: Not how I read vegeto's post. I thought it was a comment on the fact the price was nearly the same irrespective of the supposed discount. Why would that be? The answer has been provided in these deals numerous times.

                  • @[Deactivated]: The first line of vegeto's comment says "This is no deal" which you can't neg for, plus the example of the item being more expensive with a non-existent 10% code is an invalid reason for negging as well -

                    Appropriate uses of negative vote
                    Cheaper price elsewhere
Mention store or URL and price making sure to include shipping.

But it seems if you combine the two invalid reasons and add some more words you can get away with it. The voting guidelines need a serious overhaul, it's a wonder members give up their own time to post deals and help others really.

                    • -4

@WatchNerd: again you keep making false statements about the guidelines. a neg is only invalid if it is explicitly listed in the "Inappropriate uses of negative vote". I find it strange you think this site is for posting the current lowest price rather than whether it's a bargain or not.

                      • +1

                        @Savas:

a neg is only invalid if it is explicitly listed in the "Inappropriate uses of negative vote".

Yes I just explained that with links & quotes in my comment you have replied to haha. I then went on to say that it seems if you combine the two invalid reasons and add some more words you can get away with it.

I find it strange you think this site is for posting the current lowest price rather than whether it's a bargain or not.

Where did I say that? I never said that. We are discussing the reason for neg voting, not the reason for posting something as a deal. You can't neg a deal if you find it more expensive with a non existent 10% off code.

                        • -3

@WatchNerd: then your comments don't make sense. you said "You're not allowed to neg for "no bargain or deal." why would you say this if his neg was perfectly valid with the reason very clearly explained?

Why bother to wait for this weekly 20% off deals
                          10tb ironwolf 10% off -$406
                          10tb ironwolf 20% off -$404

                          • -1

@Savas: I was just quoting the Voting Guidelines, I didn't write them, I'm just a regular member.

Your quote is misleading because you have chosen to ignore the non existent 10% off code member vegeto used to take $40.60 off the normal price. Also he never mentioned store or URL.

                    • -1

@WatchNerd: You're looking at the words and trying to use them literally to maake your point rather than the intent. Thinking more broadly OzB exists to promote bargains. If it wishes to promote scams - and that's clearly what SOME price hikes are - then it needs a name change.

                      • @[Deactivated]: You're not looking at the words and noticing that the price comparison is wrong because the 10% off code doesn't exist. Member vegeto has just made it up in order to make his comparison appear better than what it really is. Also he never mentioned store or URL so how are we meant to know where he got the figures from?

It should really look like this -

                        10tb ironwolf 00% off -$446.60
                        10tb ironwolf 20% off -$404.00

In order to neg you need to find the item cheaper elsewhere now, which he hasn't done.

                        • -1

@WatchNerd: ebay has been 10% off several times this month. you'd be better off waiting for 15% off again rather than this "20% off sale".

                          • -2

@Savas: There would literally be hundreds if not thousands of items available with this deal, have you checked the prices on everything?

                        • -1

@WatchNerd: Pointless arguing with someone who can't see the forest for the trees. You've already made the same point and repeating it doesn't add one iota to the argument. You've interpreted the post literally, I and others took it as a general comment. There have been numerous examples provided of price "jacking" at these "sales", don't know how you've missed them. Some MAY be legitimate, but the actions in many other cases are illegal. It's a sham/scam to claim 20% off as Ebay does unashamedly. If that's not reason enough to neg any deal then we might as well give up - especially as there is no facility to neg a particular store or item. Being rogered by law-breaking retailers and treated with contempt by Ebay is not my idea of a good deal, but each to his own.

                          • -2

@[Deactivated]: It takes two to have a pointless argument, so you're just as much to blame as me.

I'm fine with the comment if there wasn't a neg vote to go with it. Once the neg is applied then it has to follow the voting guidelines. My opinion is that it doesn't.

                            • -1

@WatchNerd: the neg is useful because then people can quickly navigate to it and read the issue with the deal.

    • And you've negged the deal?

Damn, the neg voting system needs a serious haul when this happens.

      • +2

You've totally missed the point. It's illegal behaviour in many cases but as the ACCC won't act and Ebay won't act then if you're dissatisfied with the rorting by Ebay stores you have few options. Negging the deal is one.

        • But aren't you meant to find it cheaper elsewhere if you want to neg, not more expensive? Also there is no 10% off code atm.

I think that's the point MathNerd is trying to make.

          • -1

@WatchNerd: the point of a neg vote is to highlight an issue with the deal, maybe you should have a reread of the guidelines

            • +2

@Savas: Yes I know, obviously when anyone negs a deal they have an issue with it, that goes without saying. The subject of that issue is what we are discussing here.

              • -1

@WatchNerd: I can't see what you're trying to discuss here. you say you can't neg for the reason of "no deal" even though the explanation is in the previous comment and the person you replied to didn't even neg the deal.

                • @Savas: Thought you're doing uni mate?

    • Thanks for posting OP. The majority comprehend you cannot influence vendor pricing any more than negging this deal can.

  • I think there's some ok deals on GPUs? (GTX 1050ti / 1060 / RX 570)

And maybe some on headsets - not too familiar with normal prices though.

Actually wanting to upgrade my 6yo MacBook Pro.
I feel like I’m getting something wrong here..but a 2018 MacBook Pro 15inch Touch Bar model is listed in this link, RRP is $4099, this lists at $3899..it already has a current 5% off deal, then add 20% tomorrow..brings it from $4099 down to $2924… I’ve been searching for deals on this model for months, and nothing comes close to this price.

edit: aand the 20% prevents the 5% being used. Still a great deal.

    • Would love to see a link and storage size for reference to see if they raise the price

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Apple-15in-Macbook-Pro-with-…

Is this the one you’re talking about?

    • From 2016 onwards, Apple have gone for all USB-C ports for MBPs. Not only that, the total number of ports is reduced and sd card reader removed.

If your gears are all Apple (inc. monitors), then you can get the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 converter from Apple. However, if you have PC based monitors at high res (i.e. 4K), then there is no Apple offering so you need to go through 3rd party. The down side is that you are essentially relying on the converter chip on the cable, which until recently, does not support HDR. It also somewhat defeats the point of going with AMD graphics chip as AMD/nVidia's HDMI port is a proper HDMI port (superior than intel's offering) - and since this is gone, you need to go 3rd party cables.

Another key advantage of AMD graphics, is better multi-monitor support. But, with just 4 USB-C ports, if you want to take full advantage of it, 3 of them would be taken up, leaving you with just 1 (which you need to use it for power). Most multi-port dongles are bandwidth limited. The HDMI port in multiple port dongles cannot handle 4K@60fps. One of the cheap ones I bought recently only does 1080@30fps which is shockingly low bandwidth.

Also, USB-C cables are a mess, especially USB 3.1 gen 2 cables, with majority of them failing Benson/NathanK's tests (esp. on USB-PD side). Even Anker failed (and they claimed their new batch fixed the issue - not retested). j5Create is the opposite, batch 1 passed with flying colours, new batch failed. Even if you just use those cables for data (which is a better idea), there is still a quality difference amongst them. Apple, obviously take the smartest approach and only offer USB 2.0 for their USB-C to USB-C cable (hence avoiding eMarker requirement).

Without MagSafe, you can no longer tell whether the laptop is charging without turning it on.

The board design also suffered from cost cutting:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jahtu1_idVU&t=317s

Basically lack of ground pin(s) between high voltage pins and low voltage or data pins. It's been like that for 3 years now (so no, Apple don't see a need to address it).

My colleague accidentally spilled water on his work issued 2017 Macbook Pro 15 inch two days ago, the laptop won't turn on now. So, do take care of it.

With the constant price increase, it is frustrating Apple continue to do cost cutting and removing features people really like.

    • i think they have jacked up the price…so it's not relaly 20% off…more like 11% or 12% off now

  • Eh looking at the laptops, even after a 20% discount it gets you to the same price as amazon au

  • -7

Had my eye on quite a few items to purchase. The lowest reduction I saw as a further $3 off a $300+ item after using the 20% off code. What a scam.

    • +3

Got an example there for us champ??

  • +3

Well Done T/A 3-4-5-6 Posts! But then again I am an Arithmomaniac!

  • Anyone having a problem applying the code? I've added a few bits from the Sony Store (even followed the link directly from the eBay T&C page), but get error 'This code can't be applied to your order.'

    • Strange, switched to my other eBay account, and worked fine!

Does any of these store have a good deal for Note 9 512GB Dual SIM? Appreciate if anyone can point me to the link. I searched but couldn’t find any. Thanks

  • Sorry to be a pain. I tried using the search function and couldnt figure out how to do a search for a Pixel 1.

I have manually navigated to Allphones and have found a 32gb Pixel 1 for $448 after discounts. Can anyone find anything better than that for a brand new Pixel 1?

Once again, I tried using the search link but couldnt figure out where to put in the text search for Pixel.

    Thanks in advance.

    • +1

Looks like you've found the cheapest that is part of this deal. $439.20 with the code. Free Delivery with ebay Plus, otherwise it's $8.80 extra. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Google-Pixel-5-32GB-Ver…

Looks like there are cheaper ones outside this deal: https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=google+pix…

      • Yeah I saw that one too. Just checking there wasnt something cheaper!

        Thanks Melbourne Guy!

    • -2

Once again, I tried using the search link but couldnt figure out where to put in the text search for Pixel.

You type the word PIXEL in the normal eBay search box at the top of the page that loads after you click the link. I cannot understand why this is too complex for you LOL

  • no search link?

  • For anyone after camera gear, Camerastore Australia doesn’t seem to increase their prices for these sales. I picked up a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens for $135 and a Canon 22mm f2 for $183.

  • Anyone used VideoPro through eBay and had to return stuff? Need new TV and soundbar for my folks and like the prices, but am worried if there’s issues it’ll be hard to return.

    Anyone with experience with this?

Lenovo Yoga 920 2400 AUD on Lenovo ebay site day before deal. 9AM today listing ended. 84 items listed on their e-store yesterday, only 18 today. What a deal haha. These deals are good for ebay marketing. They get to go brag that they increased x clicks/site visits per day with their promotion. No real deals here. Tech still cheaper in the US despite ebay deals + TRS. If anyone is considering buying a laptop - compare them to US prices first. I guarantee you will save much more despite the larger shipping costs, taxes + exchange rate. Stupid.

  • +3

    What a load of shit.
I was looking at three of Lenovo's laptops, this morning, which have all since been pulled from their store.
Lenovo had at least a dozen laptops listed this morning/last night. now they have just three.

I wish I could give a negative vote to just the stores which do this kind of thing.

    • +3

100% agree. Have been looking between a couple laptops Lenovo had and saw this deal at work this morning. Decide to buy one at my lunch break and they've removed every single one of them, what's the point!?
"20% sale on now except we're either price jacking or removing every single item". Sweet. Awesome. Great.
I'm hoping for some decent boxing day sales at this point…

        • This post is very useful information and OP has no influence on vendor pricing and/or exclusions.
