I'm confused. What starts at $10?

    • The cable maybe? Or maybe just the box.

As the price is almost the same as google wifi, can you advise why buy Tenda?

    • The coverage is the most important things

      • Are you saying this has better coverage than Google Wifi?

        • Yes, MW3 3-pack 3500 sq ft; MW6 3-pack up to 5500 sq ft. And also the price for google wifi more expansive.

          • @Gxhappy120: Which coverage is more expansive?

            • @MJ1: MW6 coverage better than MW3, the price is more expensive. If you buy from today until 26.12.2018, there is promo. You will get free AC1200 USB Adapter.

        Some guy in a trenchcoat.

    • I have no idea about Tenda but Google is a business that makes almost all of it's money serving advertising and collecting every single piece of data it can to sell sell to third parties.

It is cheaper from Tech.Mall for $127.20 and Ankerdirect (for $117.32), with no shipping fee.

    • Ankerdirect is from china, there is no any warranty support in Australia.

Someone bought MW3 3 pack in aliexpress, the devices faulty. He can not get any support in Australia and seller refuse provide the replacement.

      • Well, fair enough. Tenda products already have a 3 year warranty according to their page so I personally don't see the value of a computer store overlapping their warranty service on top of the manufacturer's one. Unless you can simplify the process and can provide the customer with an immediate replacement as soon as they ship back the item.

  • Interested in MW3 for 150 m2 home.
    do I need 2 or 3 pcs?

    • MW3 2 pcs enough cover for 150m2 home. If you buy today until 26.12.2018. You will get free AC1200 USB adapter for free.

  • The 3 pack of the MW3 is $117 from eBay with the 5% discount. I just purchased a set myself.

    • Got that too, using it now no issue

    • Thanks. I just ordered a set. I live in a <100m2 apartment, but I have floor to ceiling mirrors and bathroom tiles that cause me some issues. $111 is a small price to pay to fix it (I hope).

a 3 year warranty is just as useless as buying from someone with no warranty considering it's a chinese computer store that's only been around since the middle of 2017 and can disappear at any time

    • You consider is right, not Tenda company will disappear at any time. Every single company even cisco may disappear in one day, nobody knows.

The thing is if you buy from my store, I can guarantee 3 years warranty for the faulty device.

      • Comparing yourself to Cisco is a bit bold.

  • I got the MW6 3 pack mesh router. It does what it does, improved my wifi signal throughout my 2 storey home. Used to have a wireless repeater but not at top speeds.
With the MW6, I could achieve 90+Mbps on wireless access from my bedroom upstairs. I'm on a 100mbps plan with TPG. Connecting to the gigabit network I could get close to 98mbps on offpeak times and 85 at peak.
I bought it for under $200 but was from a local ebayer but not local stock. It was delivered in 4 days from Sydney.

Only problem it has is it will force connect everything onto 5GHz first. But now there is a setting to force enable 2.4ghz on the mesh router's so that those devices on 2.4ghz can connect first.

I was tempted to buy the more expensive mesh router's but decided in a few yrs, the tech will probably change anyway so I will upgrade later to whatever the new tech is and good value.

  • What do you think the furthest signal you could get from the main point is? I've got a long house and want access out the back.

    • I've setup the routers in 3 corners of the house. The furthest is in my study room and connected to my pc using the gigabit port. I'm still reaching 90+mpbs from there. Its about 40ft from the main node and 20ft from the 2nd nearest node.

  • Not good. Here's a review : https://www.itpro.co.uk/wifi-hotspots/31703/tenda-nova-mw3-r…

Basically for a decent mesh setup you need three channels per device - a 2.4Ghz wide channel, a 5Ghz wide channel, and another 5GHz wide backhaul channel - so each device isn't both receiving and transmitting over the same wavelengths. This appears to not have that.

What's more, since there's only one radio per unit, your devices have to share that bandwidth with "backhaul" traffic as it's forwarded from node to node.

In addition it seems to only have 100Mbit wired ethernet connections, not gigabit

MW3 nodes also use 100Mbits/sec Ethernet ports, rather than the Gigabit type

It might be cheap, but if you have a house big enough to need a mesh solution, you have the money for a better solution.

  • In a multipack, are each unit identical, or is one set up to be the main? If I bought a 3 pack and ended up only needing one to cover my home, could the extras be sold or used in a different place, or are they all linked and can only be used together?
If each unit is identical, how many ports are on each and what can they be used for?

    • +1

Yes, they are identical. But its been preconfigured to just connect instantly.

One node will be the main and it will be the one connected to the modem. It can be any one of them. You could even swap them after setting up.

To disconnect them from the mesh, you just need to reset the device/remove it from the mesh using the app. You can add new nodes to the mesh by using the app if you decide to get more in future.
So yes, you can sell it, but it defeats the purpose for buying a mesh in the first place if you only needed 1.

      • Can we use any node to convert wifi to wired?

        • Yes

  • +1

    Waiting for Xiaomi mesh wifi.
