why the (profanity) do people downvote this shit?

        • Because Dim Sims are awesome and no one wants to hear a bloody whinger. I'd down vote too except I'm new.

          • -2

@LikeMike: wow, I even got downvoted for asking a question. Might as well change the site name to Ozdownvote.

  • Are these better than Hong Kong Kitchen Dim Sims 320g?

    • +2

      Hell yeah.

    • +5

Don't know about Hong Kong Kitchen but definitely better than Golden Wok.

    • +1

They are different types of dim sim. The hong kong kitchen one looks more like the yum cha type.

    • +1

They are the brand your local fish shop is using.

      Recommended Daily Intake

      On who's recommendation?

I recommend the doctors / recommenders try and eat only one of these dim sims. They will soon revise the RDI to 10x its current recommendation.

    • +1

not to mention you get sodium from almost any food

    • +3

12% of your daily sodium intake per dim-sim. Still pretty high though.

    • Lol no comparison sorry

Don't know about you guys, but this thing is disgusting, especially if you steam it (the way I like mine). Not too bad if you fry it though. Go to Asian store and buy those proper one, and you won't look back

    • +2

They are 2 different things. These are Aussie style and you need to cook them in a proper way. The one in Chinese grocery store are 3 to 4 times more in price. Of course they are better in term of Chinese traditional taste but a few dim sims on a cold day with fish and chips are oz style!

      • +2

not just taste, also how fine the meat is ground, many Australian style dim sims are ground to a sausage meat consistency. some (not all) Asian ones are a coarser grind so you get more texture when you eat them.

Yes marathon are a "fish shop" dim sim, but at this price I will try some for nostalgia reasons, along with the chicko roll …truly an aussie Christmas,

dim sims, chips, chicko roll, potatoe cakes, now where to get some RC cola or Tab

        .

    • I steam these babies all the time and they taste great. I use one of those egg poacher things from Aldi.

      • Like everything else, ymmv I guess.. But good to know people do like it.

bought one ages ago at this price. never again. worst than fast food. greasy and fatty balls

  • $5 Dinner for one! Thanks.

And on an unrelated note, my cat has gone missing

    • +1

So random but a cat rocked up at my place around 3:30am 2 nights and and won't go away… Acts as if he owns the place.
It's a non desexed male tabby.. Spots and stripes… Looks about 6 months old thought it was worth posting..

  • The best way to cook these is: put them in microwave for 45sec and 7 to 10mins in small oven at 200c until it turns brown colour. note: put small amount of oil/butter on it before oven :)

    • …uhm no.

deep fry those little bastards for optimum dimmy goodness

      • +5

Nah, cut in half and put them on the BBQ

        • …cant say ive ever tried or even heard of that.
          sounds aussie as :D

          • @franco cozzo: Yeah the first time I saw it at a BBQ I was like WTF are you doing!!! But they're pretty good.

            • @bricabrac89: Is there anything a BBQ can't cook?

              • @KARMAAA: Lamb chops on the char grill 😂 try it and report how your bonfire went..

  • Dimmies!!! Oh boy

I saw you can buy them from 7-11 now

  • +1

Microwave: Place frozen Dim Sims in a microwave-safe container with 1 teaspoon of water per dim sim. Cover and cook on high for approx. 50sec per Dim Sim. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Let's dance for 5 minutes before serving.

As a kid I used to love these!
Primary school took us to the Marathon factory as an excursion in the 80s. Probably can't do that any more cause k̶i̶d̶s̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶o̶ ̶f̶a̶t of obesity epidemic

    • …vague recollections….but was that in or near richmond somewhere??
or was it further down punt rd. like around abbotsford/clifton hill?

      • I think it was closer to footscray way… But that was a long time ago!! Not sure if my memory is right 😐

    • no, more an issue of "cultural appropriation" that Aussies have stolen the dim sim from china, and it's not made by Chinese.
