You can also add an extra month by agreeing to "recurring payments", and then immediately cancelling it afterwards. You'll keep the 2 months.

    • Sneaky, good tip. Do you know if after the 2 months and you get a month of gold again if you can redeem the free month for enabling recurring payments again? Otherwise I suppose you could create a new account on your xbox one to activate gold on and claim it on that since gold membership is shared with all console users.

How did you get this option? Mine automatically went to re-occuring billing?

      • Generally, you see this option if you purchase from an XBox One console and the account has never been offered a bonus 1 month for keeping recurring payments on.

If you really want to exploit it, you can setup a new account. However, free games collected will be attached to that new account (so once the subscription expires and you decide to renew on your main account, you won't be able to play those games). XB Live Gold and GamePass memberships can be shared across accounts on the same console (if that console is set as the home console). This new account trick is fine for GamePass (since all games are leased to you), but not ideal for XB Live Gold - unless you only care about online gaming portion of XB Live Gold.

Ah fair enough. Yeah i was already offered this deal earlier this year so might explain why im not seeing it. All good. $1 each for a month works fine for me.

Better to get gold or game pass?

what is pro or con of each?

    • Since it is also $1 for a month now for GamePass, might as well get both.
You need XB Live Gold to play online based games. Even if you play Forza Horizon 4 (through GamePass), you still need Gold to see other online players and play with them. PUBG and Fortnite need XB Live Gold.

      • what about in terms of free games?

Is gold games permanently stay on your xbox?
and is there any good gold games?

If we only interested in the games and don't play online
        is game pass better?

        • If you are after a way to play lots of games in a cost effective manner, then GamePass is the way to go.

If you prefer to play recent titles, then the ability to play online is often needed (esp. if you want to play with friends). Free with Gold games you collected are yours to keep, but you must have an active Gold membership to play them.

I only join GamePass and/or XB Live Gold when I need to. This year, only Forza Horizon 4 is a must play from GamePass library for me. Microsoft do have a habbit of adding games I own (or owned) to GamePass though. I did join GamePass for a month to play Fallout 4 (no longer on GamePass). Likewise for XB Live Gold, when I need online play for new XB1 games I purchased, I join.

For Forza Horizon 4 (assuming you don't own the game), it's best to have both.

  • Have no idea what are the current Gold free games, may wait until Jan 2019 to buy this $1 gold and see what games they have on Feb.

  • Just noticed that after loggong in the deal is not active for me, clearly because I have an account that i didnt realise was active. Anyone know what MS is like for refunding unused memberships? I know Amazon does this but not sure about MS.

  • Nice just in time for my xmas break, will this give me access to online mode multiplayer on the xbone?

    • +1

Yes this is for playing online multiplayer on Xbox one and 360. Have fun :)

  • It won't let me buy as a gift? No option for one month, only 3, 6 and 12 months ..
