Can it be unlocked for freeee?

    • +1

      not locked

      • +1

        it came locked,

        • Mine too, now the Telstra website says call a number for prepaid iPhone to unlock. They will advise the unlocking fees and once you pay, they can provide you the unlocking code.

6s is huge improvement over 6 , fixed the bend and upgraded cpu/ram

    • +22

This. iPhone 6 has only 1gb ram. No point buying one in 2018/19

    • -2

They both way too old devices to be even worthy.

My wife has a 6s from day 1 and my android phones are way better in many scenarios at least a couple of years now.

      • +11

yeah, not getting into iOS vs android war

they are apple and droid, with different ecosystem

i'm using android but i don't preach/expect iOS user to switchover to android vice versa

      • The 6s is still a viable iPhone. Your wife can pay $39 to get her battery replaced by Apple and you’ll probably find it performs as well as it did when it was new.

        • -8

It will still have outdated bad camera. Physical key. Clunky fingerprint reader. Huge bezels. Ultra slow charge. Outdated looks and feels. Poor sound all around.

It's a viable phone as anyone is from that era.

      • Incorrect.

I've seen several tests on youtube, which have the 6S very close performance wise to iPhone 7 and 8. Sometimes fractions of a second between them. Go have a look.

For general use, there's very little difference.

        Android is rubbish, who cares.

        • +2

"Android is rubbish, who cares" the last time that statement was remotely arguable…
the iphone 6 was a relevant option

          • +6

@KingSlayyer: Came here to cringe at Apple fanboy comments and boy I have not been let down!

            • @miq: Came here for a bargain but now cringing at people who came here to cringe

            • +3

@miq: Android fanboys aren’t any better

  • +8

my iphone6 is my son's toy now.
    Too slow to use.

    • Yeah, the good thing about that toy is that your grandson can also play with it unless you fall for "iOS upgrade".

Disclaimer: I switched to droid to get more "value" for money long time ago. I have used iphone 3G, 4s & 5 and those phones are STILL working with some minor glitches.

  • +11

Why would anyone want to buy such an old phone at this price??

    • +5

      Because I want iPhone.

But there's plenty other better phones for this price range.

      But it's not an iPhone.

      • +1

Not sure if this is sarcasm?

        • Forgot the /s

Its actually loosely based off this skit.

          • +4

@xoom: I don't even know what's sadder - uploading that, watching that, or sharing that lol.

Gets the point across though, albeit in a very wanky way.

I agree that people are like that and haven't changed.

      • People who want iPhone can usually afford a better iPhone than one that's 5 gens old.

        It's a symbol of status.

    • +3

because it's the cheapest iOS phone avail for new ?

      that's the goal of apple.

      • -1

Apple doesn't chase after the low end. They want prices high. That's why they don't do budget phones. XR is not a budget phone. A high sticker price carries a perception of quality.

They've never cared for the $300 market. It devalues their brand.

Telstra is known to firesale old products to clear them out.

        • was referring to … 'your only option is iphone if you're into iOS'

          • -2

@dcep: Yes and I'm saying this is a Telstra fire sale, not an Apple sale. Apple does not want low end people who can't afford their current offerings.

It is not an Apple 'goal' to sell $329 phones. Those phones will be perceived as low quality because everything else they sell is expensive.

      • SE arguably a better phone. And about the same price.

    • I think with the exception of the iphone 6S @ $529, the remaining prepaid phones on that list from Telstra, even though they are cheaper, would not perform as well as this four year old iphone..Which of course is not saying much

    • +2

      becayse apple fanbois don't think

      • -2

I can't believe people still use the term "apple fanboi"

  • +13

A brand new four year old phone….

    • -5

Yeah that battery isn't going to be crash hot. Battery degrades over time.

      • +6

It wasn't made 4 years ago lol.

      • +1

Newly manufactured, so battery is certainly not years old. The 32GB is a new "old" iPhone. A good price for an iPhone that is still capable of running iOS 12, not that I'd personally ever buy it.

      • Pretty sure they fixed the battery issue with the iOs update

  • +4

I got one of these through work. Absolute horrible phone. The worst battery life I've ever encountered in a new smart phone. And for a work phone too, can't use it as a mass storage device - transferring data easily is not an option.

    • what ios is your 6s on

ive deliberately kept mine 6s on ios10, and the battery life and speed of the device is fine. however i predict if i did go to ios 12, all that would go out the window.

      • +1

Nah, my youngest has an iphone 6 plus (hand me down). While it was Mrs Entropy's phone we kept it on iOS 10 as we had heard that iOS 11 would slow it down too much. But we have upgraded to iOS 12 and it is definitely running faster! I have no hesitation recommending the move to iOS 12.

I can't say what it did to battery life as I had Apple stick a new one in at the same time. The new battery of course, lasts a lot longer than the original battery.

      • You do realise the security flaws you’re exposing yourself to? Speed is fine on current iOS.

      • But he would be talking about the 6 not the 6S?, right?

        • +1

ah yep, my bad sorry. yeh the "6" would be pretty slow now. would be good for the parents or grand parents who want an iphone but dont care for super duper fast

          • @DiscoJango: The 6 is plenty fast on iOS12. It's quite speedy I find.

            • @Daabido: interesting. i got put off by many years of ios "upgrades" making the device slower

not sure if i want to "risk" upgrading from ios 10 to 12, mainly because i cant roll back, and if the device did suck, i would have no choice but to sell and buy another (expensive) iphone

              • @DiscoJango: Works fine on 6 plus, I’d say actually better

                • +1

@Fancydancer: i hate the vertical brightness and volume sliders on ios12!

the horizontal, near full screen slider is so much easier to use.

                  • @DiscoJango: They were introduced in iOS 11, but I agree that the iOS 10 sliders were better (and looked better too)

    • +1

hahahah!! ohh well, you can safely say the $2.3k Xs-max is a horrible phone as well because it has the same iOS limitation.

i remember back in 2008 i was like wtf!!!
why can't i send songs over bluetooth ..
why can't i transfer contacts to simcard …
why can't i transfer files by usb on random pc …
and no sd card slot ??? how can this be a smartphone !!!

my freakin' nokia n95 does it all

      • +1

It's hard listening to all you folk who can't afford iPhones… I just wiped a tear from my eye. My condolences, genuinely.

        • Wow an argument we never heard before. "You can't afford it."

Did it ever occur to you that some people prefer to get more for their money?

Last I checked there are android phones that cost as much if not more than the iphones. Two examples off the top of my head.

          Oppo Find X Lamborghini
          Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design

    • +2

Actually most people don't realise this, but if you simply disable "background app refresh" in the settings I get easy 2 days out of my iphone.

    • I'm on my 4th Android phone, and none of them have had nearly as good battery life as the 3 iPhones I had

    • can't use it as a mass storage device - transferring data easily is not an option.

I remember when I could do that but Apple took it away a long time ago

    • -2

And for a work phone too, can't use it as a mass storage device - transferring data easily is not an option.

If they let you transfer files to it freely you might get viruses and malware like those poor Android fools. There's no way you'd want to risk that. Apple protects their users unlike Android.

Even if you're cluey and won't get viruses, there will be plenty of less cluey people who will. It's going to lead to tech support headaches that they don't want to deal with, so better to just 'protect' you all.

      • Transfer files does not mean anything with virus. Android File System is inaccessible without root, so does Apple File System. Common storage on Android is usable, iOS? No. AFAIK, you got malware because installing malicious apps, not because you plug it on a computer and boom, your phone exploded thanks to a random Windows malware. And could you give me any evidence that they said "it's for Customers safe sake?" Or because you said so?

  • Lost my second headphone dongle just a few days ago T_T

    • This is probably better value than a new dongle

  • That ringing sound is the past calling… :+)

  • +2

Who invited the Android Grinches to this deal lols? Bar humbug.

    • +2

Lol - I think even if I was a crazed apple fanboy I would pick a slightly newer model..

And if I wanted better value I wouldn't pick Apple..

    • +1

      somebody's salty

  • I just sold my iPhone 7 for 300, iPhone X for 700. Never going back to iOS rotten apple again

    • Can you tell us what Apple did wrong to drive you away? And which brand will you be switching to that does those things so much better than Apple?

      • +4

Questions like that always come from those who've only ever used Apple products.

The differences are well documented. They missing features are just always dismissed by the loyalists as unimportant. Until Apple implements it themselves later that is.

        • I have used an iOS device for about 1 1/2 years out of the last 8. Phones I’ve recently owned have been the Note 9, S8+, Mate 10, S7, LG G6, LG V30, Nexus 6P and 5X, iPhone 8. I will pick up a Pixel 3 when some more of Pie’s Bugs are ironed out. This could easily be varified by looking through my comment history on Ozbargain. Don’t know why you’d bother doing that, but since you like making false assumptions about what kind of person I am based on wanting to know a bit about why “Apple are rotten”, I figure why not. Look, a primarily Android user questioning someone bashing Apple. Surprise?

          • +1

@aja12: Then you should be able to answer your own question.

Here is one list of differences: https://www.diffen.com/difference/Android_vs_iOS

Each person will decide for themselves what their priorities are. For those that dislike iOs and like Android, just read their column and see their reasons.

I also think you're either rich or upgrading way too frequently, so a lot of these things don't matter to you. You're changing phones on average more than once a year.

            • +1

@lostn: OP said their reason for ditching Apple is because “Apple is rotten”. OP had an iPhone 7, and then went and bought an iPhone X, so was very aware of the OS prior to buying an iPhone X. You’re making a lot of assumptions with your comments. What annoys me is people dropping comments like “Apple sucks”, or “Android sucks” but won’t articulate their reason/s why.

I don’t need to answer my own question, I asked OP why Apple is rotten. You’re really missing the point.

      • +1

Not really sure why aja's comments are being negged. I feel they're legitimate?

As an iOS user since the 3GS until the iPhone 7, I too am curious. I have my own reasons for leaving but I'm interested in Salians as well

  • Damn if people this is a deal than that iPhone 7 I nabbed new a couple months ago for $270 was a steal. Didn’t post as there was only like 2 left.

    • +3

      Huh?

      • Wow just reread my comment and was like wth. To rephrase I got an iPhone 7 for $270 brand new a couple months ago but didn't post as there as only 2 left.

  • +4

Getting anything older than a 6s or SE is just a waste of money. On top of that, 32GB won’t keep you going for too long either unless you want to put everything in the cloud. $270 for an iPhone 7 sounds like a terrific deal though.

  • Lol at this review from 3 days ago

It's the best phone out there, it has a headphone jack and security 😂

    • +1

It has security. Sold. Getting me one.

  • Is there any good deals on 6s currently?

    • +1

Just get a 7 at least if you’re going iPhone

      • +2

        Headphone jack?

    • +5

I just ordered dad a 'near new' iPhone 6S 64GB from luvyourphone on eBay. Came to $304. Didn't want to spend more because dad will take over my X in October when I recontract.

It's to replace an iPhone 6 that's succumbed to touch disease caused by being bent when inserted into pants pockets (when used 6Ss are as cheap as they are, it was throwing good money after bad to get it repaired). Coupled with the fact that iPhones with less than 2GB of RAM (i.e. less than an SE or 6S) are slow as a wet week these days, this is not a good deal. Spend the extra $170 and get the 6S, or buy used…

      • +1

Ah, I was bit skeptical above luvyourphone. They list them as near new or new other, how is the quality of the piece you received? Is it refurbished piece?

        • +1

I probably won't receive it until Friday or next Monday. But I'd expect it to be a refurb. I had bought a Netgear Nighthawk M1 off them before and it was fine though…

  • +2

I'd pick the Nokia 6.1 at Office Works for $317 over this anyday.

  • Just picked this up from Leichhardt Target for $250, using flybuys dollars. Mum will be happy :-)

    • Same here, I got one at Brimbank Central Target.

      • Able to share the item code number from the reciept?
