Great controller for those with bbqs this fits. Paid more than this and don't regret it.

    • What does it do?

      • Saves you from being chained to the smoker apparently

      • Means I don't have to worry about temp monitoring. Plus, it's a gadget and who doesn't like gadgets.

Bought it for my kamado joe, zero regrets.

        • Tempt monitoring? What is this the masterchef of BBQs?

          • @Pandabargain: Smoking. You need to be very specific with the temperatures. Cooking time depending on the meat could be sometimes 4hrs different, depending on how long the plateau lasts

              @knobbs: Refer to above comment

              • @Pandabargain: What do you mean?

              • @Pandabargain: No idea what smoking is, hey?

@[Deactivated]: My BBQ smokes all the time. I'm not spending this kind of money to control the smoke. All BBQ food tastes the same

                  • @Pandabargain: You can troll a bit better than that, can’t you? ;)

      • apparently you stick it in your meat and “you can get some shopping done, sleep through the night during overnight cooking and enjoy your guests” according to the website.

        • BBQ, not your meat. It's for low n slow cooking, the best kind of BBQ.

          • @[Deactivated]: there’s a picture of a probe in the meat. i’m confused.

            • @Bellyup: Hahah. Fair point, I didn’t notice that. That’s just a meat thermometer. That fan basically controls the airflow in your smoker, keep consistent temps. Not required, but makes life a lot easier when cooking a brisket for 14 hours.

Then stick your meat in your guests.

          • @Merlict: i upvote you sir, i like the way you think!

  • Cost more than the barbecue.

Met the guy that made this device. Doesn't come with AC adaptor to avoid getting C tick compliance, when I tried it extensively on multiple BBQs things didn't go well at all.

Adaptors can be up to $40 to fit onto your specific bbq.

BBQ Guru would be a much much better product however people have made these for significantly cheaper - $50 on OC and Reddit etc.

Overall, I'd say give this a miss unfortunately, nice bloke who made it though!

By the way these are still only $290 full RRP.

    https://bbqsplus.com.au/product/cooking/949/1428/74416/smart…

All you're saving here is $29!

    • No, you're not comparing correctly - you save $87.25

The $290 RRP you referred to is without an adaptor and has two probes. The Smartfire from BBQ Galore has 4 probes and an adaptor making the rrp $349.

      • You're completely right about the food probes!

That bundle with an adaptor of your choice is $309AUD RRP

        • ? The bundle with 4 x probes and no adaptor is $309RRP - not sure how you're getting the 4 x probes and an adaptor for $309 cause it comes up as $348 for me

  • How does it regulate air flow? Does it have built in fan that kicks in when the temp gets hot to your liking? I use the Weber iGrill. Are they similar in function?

    • Correct. It is Basically a smart fan with a mobile interface to control the temps in your smoker for a more consistent cook and to make life easier. Seems a bit pricey but could be worth it for some.
