  • ur kidding right? :( I just ordered one. Do you have an idea of the approximate date?

    • Don't know the specifics sorry guys. Basically, I work in the consumer division (back of house) and each week there is a large meeting where all the products and pricing strategies are discussed to keep everyone up to date. The word this week was that the Galaxy will be hittin the $299 price point due to very large inventories of it and the obvious risk of obsolesence.

      • may be u need to show up more often so that we can know more about pricing. :D

        • Haha this is the first time in nearly a year I have actually heard of anything worthwhile. Could have told you guys when I first heard that you would have to pay $2 for a paper bill with any new Freedom postpaid mobile plan but that's like a reverse bargain!!!

        • did you happen to know what kinda numbers of the galaxy tab they are trying to move? It really shows how over priced this tab was to begin with

        • Not sure I can quote exact numbers but I know that the inventory levels of the Galaxy and T-Touch Tab are a worry - in fact there is a scheme right now to try and offload T-Touch Tabs to staff haha.

      • interesting that you say there's a large stock of it, because all the telstra shops ran out of stock and people were willing to buy at the $400 price point. i think there's a case of foot not talking to the hand here

    • Yeah.. most T-shops don't seem to have them in stock. Hopefully, it is just because these tabs weren't selling very well so they did not have lots of them in stock.

  • +2

wow.. next month everyone will carrying this on the train instead of ipad hahaha

    • Good news lol. I'm always blaming Apple for their overpricing and under-supplying (when a product is launched) policies.

    • +3

samsung should've done this at the launch, create a huge buzz and make people want the cool new gadget, rather than at the end, where people are just getting it because it's cheap.

  • For those who received the Warranty Information email from Unique mobile. There are references to "ELF returns" and "ELF Period". Does anyone know what this meant?

Also, how long is the warranty period? 1yr? or 2yr?

  • Seems like TELSTRA has no problems with stock on their website. Perhaps the individual stores were not too keen on ordering a product which was overpriced and did not sell too well? In any case, this deal is OK - I ordered one tablet as well - though I don't think it is THAT special. Unique Mobiles simply capitalised on the unfulfilled demand (as shown in the JB Hi-Fi deal), offering a similar price range. If Telstra (which is normally highly overpriced) is selling the product even at the moment at a $400 mark, I'm certain that that we going to see much more discounting in the next month and beyond. It's just a pity that we can never know which deal is actually genuine…My feeling is that in our highly indebted, imploding economy we are still overpaying for most consumer goods.

  • LOL check out http://telstra.com.au/. already down to $299!!!

  • I have just sent them an email and we will see what happens.
Its always dangerous burning ' good will ' from such a good source of customers.

Will let you know what they say.

    • Hi Guys, Our cost on the Galaxy Tab is a lot higher then Telstra are offering as retail. We were not aware of the price dropping to this level anytime soon. Telstra obviously need to move excess stock IE: the big price drop. Unfortunately this means we can not match the latest price by Telstra.

      • Have the items been shipped? If not, can the orders be cancelled?

      • And if I can't cancel can I return it (unopened)?

        • I'd like to know too…

  • +1

Grrrrrr!….I do feel like I've been duped.

    • +1

Yep. Can't believe it - 1 day later too. I think Unique should match the price and refund the difference (as an act of good faith? :D)

  • +1

Any one whos product has not shipped should be cancelling right about now.

Thats always the problem with internet shops - they never have to face their customers.

Whats the worst your going to do….write in caps

Any bricks n mortar store would have refunded the difference in a heartbeat.

Obviously short term profit is more important than long term business.

    • Yeah - there are going to be a lot of unhappy customers over this even though it is not Unique's fault.

    • +4

As previously mentioned we are not able to price match or refund the difference, If your order has not shipped please email your order ID to [email protected] requesting a full refund.

Once again, Unique Mobiles had no idea about the recent price drop. It;s not in our best interest to post deals that we know wont satisfy our customers.

      • +2

From a business perspective I think the best course of action would be to refund the difference rather than have everyone cancel their orders. You will be left with heaps of stock which won't sell due to Telstra's pricing and in the end you will lose regardless.

        • I agree completely, and particularly in the case of OzBargainers who; myself included; complain long & hard to anyone who'll listen if they think they've been hard done by!

With regard to the price drop, I don't buy the story that UM had no idea that was gonna happen. We all knew it was gonna happen, there was a nationwide glut of stock that wasn't moving at shelf prices even with telco incentives & a new model coming out soon…the writing was on the wall!

If UM truly didn't know, then somebody there needs to wake up & smell the android, coz to not know what's going on in your own industry is a cardinal sin! ;)

      • Dear Rep,I only purchased at 2.30PM lol and saw the Telstra price horror 2 hours later, sorry for making more work for you, we can blame Telstra for it. Had just send my request, please do the right thing, thank you for being an honorable seller!

    • Agreed with what you said that any bricks n mortar store would refund the difference.

I bought a case of wine from DM when they offered a special online for $48/case. I received my wine a couple of days later and then they brought the price down to $30. I called them up to express my disappointments and they happily refunded me the difference!. Now that is a +vote from me.

  • Price beat with HN, OW, or other retailers, anyone? The Telstra deal should be recognised by them? Any thoughts?

    • if you can find a DSE they will probably do it

  • i wish to cancel my order then

    • +4

You cant cancel it by telling ozbargain

  • Just got a call from Unique Mobiles saying I'll get a full refund and the order has been cancelled. +1 for great customer service. Will definitely shop with them in the future.

    • Lucky you.

Wonder if I send it back for a full refund when I receive it next week??

      • Early adopters get penalised again! I wish they could at least issue us with vouchers towards buying accessories and other products. That would keep me happy…

  • Sent email asking for a refund :O

  • +5

This is life… a deal is a deal, when you buy something you can't just cancel because it's cheaper elsewhere. You win some, you lose some. If Telstra's price suddenly went up (rather than down), you don't expect uniquemobiles to ask you to pay the difference, do you? If you're so affected by a cheaper price, you should have waited rather than jumping on this deal.

    • +3

Life is life but business is business.

You want to keep customers you look after them.

Unique came to us for our business , dont forget this deal was REP listed.

So in the space of less than 24hrs and before anyone actually recieved a product Uniquemobiles went from being liked to not only being disliked but to not being trusted.

Imagine if Unique said 'we had no idea about the price drop but being that it was only the next day we will give back the difference' or even if they said 'we had no idea but look just return it unopened at your cost and we will refund it'….most customers would accept that and thank them for it.

As it is a lot of people are unhappy and its up to Unique if they want to leave it that way…….

      • I completely agree. Customer retention is much cheaper than marketing to a new customer. Keep a customer happy and you have their business for life. Piss them off and you lose a complete stream of future earnings.

      • -2

Customer retention is important for companies that make continued big profits for sustained periods of time from the customer. Uniquemobiles is NOT such a company. They do not make continued profits, chances are even if they refunded you the difference you won't order from uniquemobiles again, not until another good sale comes - where they won't be making much profit again anyway. It makes sense for them to not offer a refund, and you know it.

        • Customer retention is important for ANY business.

      • +1

we had no idea but look just return it unopened at your cost and we will refund it'

But unique mobiles should not be forced to absorb the postage costs because people want to buy the item elsewhere.
So if they refunded you then it would be less the postage which would be $10-20

You would then need to spend another $10-20 returning the galaxy tab to unique mobiles.

You would then be out of pocket $20-40 depending on the postage costs which means that by the time you have purchased it from telstra you have spent nearly as much money and had to spend a heap of time talking with the store and posting the box back.

  • I got the email saying that its shipped but no tracking info. what does that mean? and i got to wait till monday to get a reply. :(

  • I love it , I just went to the Unique website and in the easter promo you can win a Galaxy Tab worth $749……this mob just get better and better.

  • Ouch! $70 cheaper by Telstra today :)

  • i hate to do this to you uniquemobiles, but i will have to request for a refund as i just bought 2 and mine haven't been shipped.

    that's a saving of $140!!!

Request for refund has been emailed.

    • and they don't answer phones on the weekend…

  • where are the reps? i need to ask some questions and dont want to wait till monday for a reply.

    • +1

Hopefully he is reconsidering his position and will come back with a nice happy ending for everyone. Who doesnt like a happy ending?

The residents of Ozbargain town have long memories…..Dell anyone?….

Unique post deals here once or twice a week in recent past….I think its time to use some of that profit to benefit the members seeing you dont pay any advertising fees.

    • +1

The Unique Mobile guys are the greatest! I mailed them asking to cancel my order at 9pm last night and in the morning today receive an email stating that my payment has been refunded.

Excellent customer service. I know where I will be buying from the next time!

PS: Remember to send your order details if your cancelling.

      • i sent them an email at 9pm too. still no reply

        • I sent my email at 6:45pm yesterday and no reply.

The Rep was online earlier cause he voted + on some comments

        • Maybe they're still working on it. I ordered through PayPal maybe it's easier to refund through that.

This is the mail I got at 11am today.

Unique Mobiles ([email protected]) has issued a full refund for your payment.

Message from merchant: Please find full refund for Order 8597635 as requested

          Original payment details:

Date payment sent: 15 Apr 2011
          Amount: $372.69 AUD

          Thanks,

          PayPal

      • I sent my message to Unique Mobiles yesterday, but so far have not heard back …:-(

If it was 20 or 30 bucks difference in 2 weeks or so it would not be as bad. But it's 70 dollars difference (or about one third of the product's new price!) on exactly the same product. And that's within a span of several hours.

It does feel like being ripped off. Not sure if they knew about the price drop or not, but still I believe there should be an option for customers to return the product. Change of mind is honoured by reputable companies and give the customers confidence in their purchase.

Does anyone here know the legislations regarding purchases made online?

    • still no email or phone calls for me… :(

  • i got refunded through Paypal too..thanks Unique Mobiles

    • when was this im still waiting for a reply or refund

    • Still nothing for me :(

      • +1

Hi Guys, We have had our Accounts team working today issuing refunds to customers. All those who have sent and email requesting a refund with correct details and Order ID should be refunded by the latest Monday.

        Thanks for your Patience.

        • hi,
I sent you an email but havent receiver a response as yet. a response would be nice so that i dont have to wait till monday. or else the other deal may run out. im still unclear if the item has shipped or not.

also for those who have had it shipped will u issue refunds if they ship it back without opening the package or if they refuse delivery so it is returned to you?

        • I got a notification that my order has shipped.
Will you refund the difference or offer a refund if sent back by return mail?

        • Would like same answers to Xavier and Gurrier please.

        • yeh refunding the items that havnt shipped is good customer service , not over and above but reasonable service from a reasonable retailer.

We do need an answer to the above questions though , we need to see if your service can be over and above …. will you go the extra mile to help your customers

        • i think the best deal for uniquemobile would be to talk to their suppliers and try and refun the difference. that way they still get the sale and every1z happy

        • +1

Can you please let us know if you at least have received our emails?

Otherwise how would we know if you have received our emails?

I replied the paymnt email i received, and cc it to sales@, but havent got anything back from u.

I'm worried if you havent receive my emails, then you wont honour the refund on monday.

          Please let us know.

        • +1

Still no reply or acknowledgment they received my emails asking for refund and tomorrow is Monday

  • +2

Thanks Unique Mobiles; your customer service is highly commendable, I can understand you cannot compete with Telstra directly given they are literally dumping it due to new models in this instance, but on a normal case in the future deals I will have no hesitation to buy from you. Keep up the good work!

  • -2

And still no neg votes on this deal

    • +1

why would we neg the deal , it was posted before telstras……the issue running at the moment is seperate to the deal

  • Just received an email from paypal saying both of my orders have been refunded.

    Thanks unique mobiles :)

that's what i call customers satisfaction and confidence :)

  • MY order has been shipped but I do not have any tracking information so they will not refund me :(

What if we do what xavierdylan suggested above and refuse delivery?

    • I've accepted that I'm not going to be able to return the item or get a refund for the price difference. I understand that if ever I get a refund for the price difference, it is simply a token of goodwill from the seller and so far I haven't seen anything to suggest that this will occur so move on. You win some, you loose some.

      • well based on the email i got from uniquemobiles this morning they said that if it has been delivered there will be no refund. I can see where they are coming from. however i would have liked for them to have at least tried to negotiate with their suppliers and try and pass on some of the saving if not all to make it feel less like a loss. thats $70 more we paid but it happens. just a little disappointed.

        • I'm in the same boat. I understand their position but am disappointed at missing out on the better price. Call me cynical, but I would be surprised if they were unaware of the impending stock dump by Telstra.

Of course, it's good business but uniquemobiles have missed out on a chance at great customer service. Now instead of having a story about how they went out of their way to accomodate when they contractually didn't need to, I'll be recommending the Telstra offer to friends who are interested in getting a Galaxy tab.

        • Call me cynical, but I would be surprised if they were unaware of the impending stock dump by Telstra.

Why do you think another store would know what telstra plans to do?

Telstra does not even tell its staff about new plan changes/product offerings until they are made public (sometimes after!)

Now instead of having a story about how they went out of their way to accomodate when they contractually didn't need to

I think they have been very accommodating.

They have no contractual obligation to refund anyone who has purchased a galaxy tab and is upset that it is for sale elsewhere at a cheaper price however unique mobiles have chosen to offer refunds to those people. What else do you want them to do?

        • Anthony in the JB HIFI Deal posting there was a Telstra Employee that posted saying that a deal from Telstra would be released the next day and would beat JB HIFI deal, so some staff do know about deals.

So how do we know Uniquemobile does not have a friend in Telstra that knew about the coming deal.

Anyway they refused refund and even refused return unopened stock at buyers expense, so live and learn.

  • -1

Just refuse the delivery. Try to get the tracking number too. Then demand a refund. Worth it for $70 I reckon.

    • lol. had it delivered to work and some1 else accepted delivery. so im stuck now. :(

    • Stumo I told them I would do that, they said it will take 2 weeks to get back to them and might even get lost so I should not do it :O

    • Just refuse the delivery. Try to get the tracking number too. Then demand a refund. Worth it for $70 I reckon.

If you get a refund from doing that then expect to pay for the delivery to you, the delivery back to unique mobiles and the courier will probably charge a processing fee. There is no reason unique mobiles should have to pay for any of that because you want to send it back to them just because you purchased it before it went on sale elsewhere.

  • Does anyone know if this works with Optus SIM card? I tried putting in my Optus phone sim card hoping to test youtube etc… and while I can access the internet from my android phone, I can't on the Galaxy Tab. I can make calls, just can't access the internet and I've checked data service is enabled.

    • u need to enter the optus APN details

      • Done. Thank you very much.
