    wow

    • $299 is a fair price for the unit and sort of makes buying a stand alone GPS a complete waste of time. The device is pretty snappy but I hope Honeycomb will be released for it soon. Web browsing and resizing windows is not as smooth as Ipad and other smartphones. The biggest disappointment I have with the device is the viewing angles. Anything off centre immediately loses colour vibrancy and contrast and a person sitting next to you would would really struggle to view the details on the screen. After using an Ipad, HTC Desire or Galaxy S this standard TFT screen (despite reasonable pixel density) results in a very average viewing experience for off centre viewing (ironically not so good if you are sharing it in the car for navigation)

I have bought one as a gift.

    question… is this locked?

    • +2

      Care to take a guess?

      • well I would guess not. I thought I read that it wasn't buried deep somewhere in the site… but can't be bothered exhuming it again :p

well… telstra has the advantage that this is on the next G network as well though…

and to clear stock and compete with optus for market share… i reckon it's probably worth it

    • +26

Thanks @quickling - No it's unlocked (i.e. not network locked to Telstra)

      • -1

Damn me. I just paid $408 last week. Can I return it and order the new
        one?

        • +7

it should be ok, most of the shop offer 14-day-return policy eg Disksmith, Aldi …Try it , nothing to lose buddy

        • Same here…really sucks! I just bought it 3 days before…
by the way, did you open the box yet?
I am wondering whether we could return it with the ruined stickers…
I wanna return it and order a new one too…
or they return that $109 to my will be fine…

you just beat me to it!! I ordered one before uploading the deal - it was my first too 

it's tablet day today… surely. And this is now the price of the t-tab when it was released!

  • +4

Hey, welcome to OzBargain Telstra! Good to see you guys on here.

Back on topic, these are good for anyone after a cheap tablet however it might be worth holding out until Honeycomb is released. This version of Android wasn't designed for tablets.

Awesome. Might consider one when its confirmed the port is stable.

      • Thanks for that ozdavo…it wouldn't be as grunty as a Xoom for example but hopefully they get it to a stable state that performs well so the Tab owners don't miss out.

      • bear in mind that the honeycomb AOSP has not come out yet. . in fact google released a media statement to the effect that they dont plan on releasing it yet (no ETA given). .http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/24/google-keeping-honeycomb-source-code-on-ice-says-its-not-ready/

As someone on a rooted nook color, this has been a huge blow as no port based on an SDK will ever be as good as one based off AOSP.

Of course, this is just speculation, but people suspect google is holding it back precisely because people have been so adept and keen to port it to cheaper devices thus hurting sales of other 'official' HC tablets that are hitting the market

    • Yes yes! Welcome!!!! The deal broke me… I brought it lol

      Dupe report FAIL

    • unlocked, confirmed by Telstra rep.

  • -1

Also, does this has 3G !?!

If it has 3G, is this Telstra 3G only ?

    • this would be 850/1900/2100

      • Meaning it's fine for metro use (2100mhz) on Vodafone and Optus… in the sticks you'll be stuck with GPRS.

    • +1

NextG - 3GSM 850 - Third Generation mobile technology operating on 850Mhz spectrum

    awesome!

    Telstra Rep!

  • Can you tell me what colour ? is it Black ?

    • +1

It's black front (as pictured) with a white back.

  • +4

I wonder if Telstra employees can still get $50 off this price?

    • +1

That's starting to get to the point I'd be interested…
      $200 and I'd definitely jump.

    • dont forget fulltime employees can salary package "telstra products & services" as well

    • a friend said he got one for $200… dunno how genuine that is though.

  • i wonder if i can walk into a telstra store and they will do the same deal?

    • guess not

    • Don't think so. It says "online offer", but wouldn't hurt if you try. At least you'll got the physical feel of the tab before order it online.

      • yeah i called they said no.

  • +1

No good, every week price is dropping, hold on and hope next week will ended up $199 …

  • +7

See, I told you guys $350-400 was too much. I'm so tempted to buy this thing now.

  • Do these use sim cards? If so, can they function without one?

    • They certainly function without one… :)
      Think of Wifi version only.

      • thanks

  • so, if i put my optus, i will get 3G coverage on big cities but only gprs on the bush ?
how about galaxy tab at other shop, can i get the version who support 3G on optus or voda everywhere with the same price? (how about at harvey norman?)

    • yes… only optus gprs in the bush.

the galaxy tab only has 850 OR 900 as options. You can't have it all.

      May I suggest the ipad ;) ;) ;)

Or wait for the next gen tabs.

      • i do have ipad2 now, but 100% will get it refunded next week - screen bleed and think its too expensive.
but again, i have lots of pdfs and manga, and i think 7" is too small for them.
        beside, i have 1000+ ios apps+games already !

        • Dude, this 7"er has the same 1024 horizontal resolution as both the iPads. Its just got 600 instead of 800 on the height (landscape view). So you ain't really gonna notice those 200 pixels for the extra what, $400+

        • +1

I have already refunded my iPad 2 lol
          Got this one instead hahaha…

        • +20

Try telling Hentai that 7" is too small…

      • +2

No, you may not suggest the iPad.

        • +1

The point of mentioning the iPad is that it's the ONLY Tablet with 850 and 900MHz 3G support.
Like it or not, it's a fact..
Not sure why you;d need Quadband 3G (guess if you travel to the USA a lot)

  • got 2 from JB hifi two days ago…could i return them if opened? any ida guys

    • change of mind: most likely no

    • +8

I highly doubt it if you've opened them. This is why every time I make an expensive purchase, I give myself a 2 week cooling off period before opening the packaging, incase I see it cheaper elsewhere.

      • +3

I give myself a 2 week cooling off period before opening the packaging, incase I see it cheaper elsewhere.

2 weeks 1 day later, prices drop (oucH)

        • +6

Ah well, easy come, easy go!

        • +2

…can totally relate to this - except I just procrastinate instead, and usually miss out on the deal, or think…it'll be upgraded soon, so I'll wait for that - 2 years later, I'm still dreamin' of the new gadget that I didn't get. and don't have yet..console myself with how much $ I've saved

      • lol..Some big retailers would give 14 days return policy .. doesnt think it is a smart way, but definitely is a smart comment :-)

      • +7

" I give myself a 2 week cooling off period before opening the packaging"

How… can you have so much self control? Having a brand-new gadget in-box. Sitting there. Sealed. Waiting for you to deflower it and pry open its shiny goodness. I know I couldn't.

    • +2

does it have a unique serial no. maybe u can buy this, and returne it as it'll be unopened.
just a thought might be too much work!

    • -1

Why would u like to return? JB galaxy tab is Telstra's anyway . It is cheaper than online Telstra $30. Sorry I did not get your point? Plz explaine !

      • +2

Telstra selling it online $299… JB selling at $360…

    • -2

lol, you are a pretty good troll.

for a second there you had me fooled, i thought you were serious LOL

      • +3

why people cant just return it back ? he said only 24hours, even myers or DJ have this change of mind policy.

—-> those above are just my opinion, i trying to help that guy who just lost 460 in 24hours lol

        • +1

They should be able to if they bought it with a plan.. I'm pretty sure there is a cooling off period on "mobile Plans"

      • chir0nex / issh: This is a legitimate question - Was this addressed at you?

    • +2

I am feeling like I've been conned by the Telstra shop considerably.

      lol @ this

      your fault mate

    • +2

      "Telstra Rep: I am …"

that line looked funny, either your the Telstra Rep (who stupidly bought the tablet and is now a troll) or your saying the comment TO the telstra rep

  • does JB Hifi has a price guarantee period?

  • +2

Guess I just lost $60. I picked mine up at 8pm last night at JB just before they closed. If only I was running late.

    • +1

      the price cutting is brutal… 500 > 410 > 360 > 300 in the span of 2 weeks? :x

      • +1

i reckon it MIGHT go down to $250 if you wait

      • +4

It is breath taking… shows how rip it was when it came out lol

        • Most electronic devices are

Same with things like jewerly - the margin they put on is horrendous

  • does this have GPS?

    • yes… I think built in navigon maps as well…

      • ty

        • yes you can use whatever GPS apps you want, including the free google maps nav. It also comes with Navigon for free, thats like a $50+ standalone GPS app.

      • I think you have to download Navigon from the Market, but it's free for Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S users

      • Use the Google Navigation app for Android (v2.2 Froyo).
It gives turn by turn driving directions.

        • Google Navigation was useless on my HTC Legend. Extremely slow, it was always an intersection behind.

      • Navigon maps included are very basic, No traffic warnings (cost Extra) etc

  • +4

Bargain bought one glad i held out on the other deals thanks telstra never thought id say that

  • -2

    I've just lost $60

    • i thought you missed out on the deal you posted

    • +22

Have you reported it to the police ?

    • +4

If you bought it for AUD 360.00 from JB Hi Fi, you have actually lost AUD 61.00
Sorry to break the bad news ;-)

  • Hi, how long is the expected delivery time?

    • 2 Business days if ordered before 11am. Otherwise, will be 3 business days. If you ordered today, then it will be ready by Wednesday. ;)

  • Good price, however in a couple of months, this device might not worth that much.
I'd rather wait until more honeycomb devices arrive in australia before spending any amount of money.
