however in a couple of months, this device might not worth that much.

      lol…

i don't think you buy these things as an investment… :P

      • +5

lol your're on fire today jv.

      • That's true. What I mean is that for $299 we might be able to get something much better (Honeycomb) in several months. Samsung is one of the worst when it comes to Android update (after Sony ericsson). Unless of course that XDA guy manage to create a stable honeycomb and if you are into rooting and all.

        • There's not much coming onstream in the 7" size any time soon. And you already know Samsung will charge an arm and a leg for their new version when it finally arrives.

However, I agree with you if you are talking about tablets in general. There are many 10"ers arriving in the next few weeks and they will all be vying for your hard earned. Starting at around $450 shipped if you import say an Asus Transformer. Compared to that, this SGT should be around $200 - 250, and it almost is!

        • +1

Who would you consider good with updates. Htc no. Sony no. Motorola no. Apple yes. By my deduction I think we should buy appl. Pfft. Samsung updates everything. And does it well too. Ap settings and live wallpaper on 2.1 lol. Htc doesn't even have that

        • The galaxy S is getting gingerbread in about a month. The galaxy tab will get the honeycomb update according to a press release by samsung a while ago.

Good price, however in a couple of months, this device might not worth that much.

      as with all technology

      i.e.
      CPU
Few months ago you had Nehalem
      Today you have Sandy Bridge
Next few months you have Ivy Bridge

      • Ivy Bridge ???

        • +1

Ivy Bridge is the 22nm die shrink of Sandy Bridge.

It's due to be showcased in Taiwan in June this year, but the processors won't be sold until 2012.

        • +1

          Ivy Bridge ???

          yeah

  • So glad I missed out on the last deal :)

  • +1

Damn, and I paid full price for this in December… :(

But seriously, these are fabulous devices. Get a case…. protect it….

    • +3

      gorilla glass….no protection required. :D

My today's experience - ordered Kogan and cancelled it after they changed spec. Went to JB and ordered GTab for $360. An hour later, this deal popped up and I think I might be one of the first lot to order it. Then went to JB for a refund. What a bloody Tab day! I'm glab that Telstra has come to the ozbargain party though.

    • +2

      love/hate relationship with ozbargain ;)

      • Same :)

        • mines love/love…i think i should see a doctor.

      • Good one!

Luckily so far love side as I'm keep on coming back here!!

    • What changed with the specs on the Kogan?

      • resolution

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/42956

Mod: Please note that Kogan changed it's specs for this tablet from 1024x600 to 800x480. For refunds, please contact [email protected] or see comments below

      • They lowered the screen resolution and took out Bluetooth.

  • Lucky I screwed JB down to $320! Went to the Mrs, she was relaxed about it initially…until she discovered the apps market, whereupon the Tab was snatched away and taken with her upstairs. Operating very happily on TPG/Optus sim.

  • jash have u opened your Galaxy tab?

    • +1

Went to JB and ordered GTab for $360.

      doubt it

      it says 'ordered'

      • That's right - they were out of stock and told me 1-2 weeks delivery time. Was so glad they didn't have stock after I saw the telstra deal. JB ripped me off $5 for Pilotwings Resort yesterday and it's pay back time.

  • just totally feel screwed by JB Hifi..lol need sth back even just gift card….

  • I would have got this if my gf didn't buy me that nook color XD

  • +4

I just got a Telstra Touch Tab for $199 from Aus Post maybe this would have been better?

    • come on, that one with resistive lcd, cant compare ! lol
quick edit yours otherwise others will neg you hahaha

      • it's still 50% more expensive, oh well it will do until I can afford an Ipad 4

        • -7

Its 33% more expensive to be exact.

        • +9

I'd say the Galaxy is 50% more expensive while the T-Tab is 33% cheaper.

    • +6

      my condolences

  • I feel cheated. I asked Telstra when jb hifi was selling it for $360 to lower there price $408 to match jb. and they said no.

now after it sells out. they do this..

    • +2

What's to say another store won't undercut this price next week? Hate the game, not the players ;)

      • -1

        the game of…?

        • thrones

        • chess, what else would he mean?

    • Some telstra stores are licensed, not owned by telstra.
info from telstra store locator: "Telstra Licensed shop. Prices at Telstra Licensed Shops may differ to prices at Telstra Shops and Telstra Shop Online."

  • Thanks OP!

I was seriously considering buying it for $408 yesterday!

  • Love the price war! maybe this time next week jb/telstra maybe selling it for like …. $50. Ill take 5 for that price =P

    • +3

Doesn't JB get their stock from Telstra anyway?

  • +4

btw, 3.1 Ice Cream will release next month.

    • +2

what's with these odd food names!!!!

      • +3

They name each iteration after a dessert after each letter of the alphabet. Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream, and so on.

        • +2

          next : Jellybean

        • +3

          JackDaniels

        • +2

more appealing to the traditionally non geeky female population? And hungry beasts of course.

      • +1

It's Ice Cream Sandwhich. The food name is to entice you more. Look at WinPhone7. NoDo is ewe, but Mango, yum.

  • +1

    Telstra website is keep crashing!

    • +3

      the power of ozbargain

oh and its fine for me

      • +2

        Yeah, as usual IE sucks
Bought it using Firefox - no problem

  • Ya think telstra will be back after this response. Seems theres a bit of dash to get this bargain there definetly trying real hard to of load them

  • now time to order some accessories

  • I just went to the store (townsville, QLD), after sitting for 15 mins..one rep came by and he says its 408$ still in their system. and after some browsing through their official site, says its online only offer. Was so hoping to play with it during the weekend. Now kinda lost interest.

  • Having issues checking out I think its sold out?

    • +5

At the time of this post, has definitely not sold out. We are experiencing large traffic volumes causing speeds a bit slower than normal. Thanks for your patience.

      • +2

do you expect to sell out soon? or is this a long term price?

    • +2
  • +1

Lets not hope, tomorrow some other store will start selling this for $250

BTW - will this support Optus Yes G?

    • +2

i asked the same, answer was: yes, in capital city you can use optus/voda/etc and get 3G
but if you go to remote area using this telstra tab model, you will get gprs signal only.

      • Thanks

  • +2

How does the pick up in store works. If I buy it online and show the receipt. they will give it to me in store?

    • You have to wait 2 business day before you can pick it up. I suppose they send it to the store instead of sending it to your address.

  • +8

If Telstra can't provide servers to cope being ozbargained then the world is doomed.

  • Just ordered how quick is delivery approx?

  • Thinking of selling my iphone 3gs 16gb and buying this. Recommend or nay?

    • What are you going to use to make phone calls? You can't expect to carry a 7" tablet with you all day.

      • Was just going to use this? That bad lol. I do 15 hour days so in 2 offices and uni so never use my phone only for msgin be great for flash and use as a reader

        • Just youtubed to see how it worked in calling. Reviews are not great

  • Anyone know what the photo quality is like for the camera?

    • +1

It's just a fairly ordinary 3 megapixel camera with a LED flash (not dual or xenon)

Don't expect it to take night pictures or have high sensitivity in dim lighting.
Photo quality isn't exactly the Tab's strength.

  • +5

just came out of Bourke St. Melbourne T-Shop…the bloke there says they'll be getting stock on Tuesday & instore price will also go to $298 then.

apparently samsung lowered the price overnight.

    • +11

$298 - dang! just did a dollar on my purchase. I knew I should have waited longer.

      • +4

        Here I am thinking I was tight…

      • +2

sorry…$299…was typing on my mobile and couldn't scroll back up to the top to remember if it was $298 or $299…my bad!

        • you just made a bunch of OzBargainers depressed.. I mean, if you saved 1 dollar there and one dollar somewhere else, you could buy something at the $2 shop!

[not an exact quote on purpose]

        • @mark heath: yeah sorry, every dollar makes a difference esp. on OzB. lol @ russell peters reference.

For the others who didn't get it…

Yes - Great pricing for the Galaxy.

      • +2
